Seriously? 904625697166532776746648320380374280100293470930272690489102837043110636675 pages of Bitcoin private key database? LOL. I'd be damned. This is a typical stupid stunt to pull when you are jobless. I can't even expect a sane human in his or her right sense to believe this or get scared. Moreover, that dude need to take a chill pill.

The most scary tweet that I have read is the tweet of one of my friend's friend that he says that he is s being attacked by the demons. And that he is not able to inject the happenings in hos life and he want to give up.

I seriously don't think that if a guy comes up and says Blah! Blah! Blah! about bitcoins, people would get scared enough knowingly that he's an opponent and a dev of one of the most competing coins available in the markets over Bitcoins. He wants to doom Bitcoins and by dragging everyone's attention through this, Vitalik my boy, if you think that you are successful in getting it dumped the way people do with ETH, think again my boy. My two cents for ya!

If that twit post has no meaning or whatsoever and it is pure FUD...

Than this vitaliq dude is either mentally disabled or... retarded. Or both.

And if that's true how the hell he wrote eth code in the first place? I don't think microsoft would do business with a retard. He even met putin. If he is retarded, eth should fail like no-one ever did.

or is he telling the truth?  Grin

Truth? If yes, then I think at the first place, you should be worried about your own wallets being decrypted or got your private key as well as coins stolen.
That was a complete shitty post, because Bill Gates said that Bitcoin is better than currency, do you think a multi-billionaire like him is stupid enough to say that? Even if someone really tries hard with all their "super-powers" to find an address with something in it, it would not take years, but light-years to find one with some coins in it.

What if people import every private key there is (or as many as they can) into their electrum wallets and wait?

Isn't that dangerous? I tried to import them and it is easy as hell.

Select all in the page>import priv keys electrum, that's it. You won't have to check them by one by and if some unlucky basturd uses the address in the future... Sad
I don't think you understand what the site actually is.  The site isn't a database (read the FAQ at the bottom), it's just a generator of all the possible private keys that could exist.

The point is to make people see just how many private keys could exist.  The first few might have some funds because of poorly created wallets or something, but go in 50 pages or so and see if any of the addresses listed in there have funds in them.  They don't, because it's impossibly difficult to search through that many possibilities even with the most powerful computers in the world.

I am not surprised by his actions, Vitalik would do anything to promote his centralised shitcoin and spread FUD against BTC.Unfortunately for him only a bunch of newbies will get scared and run away, the majority of Bitcoin users are aware of it and will keep ignoring him.

Nothing to worry about, he's clearly trying to create FUD in an attempt to lower the bitcoin price & try to get a % of investors to jump on his ETH train.
That's true, it's a form of FUD that's been created to make users move towards ethereum. This year beginning onwards ethereum has grown in higher percentage, so now this too adds an additional user base to make bitcoin decrease in value and ETH reach higher.

Theres nothing to be worried about and only newbie would really be scared out of this tweet thats somehow impossible.Creating fuds just to dump bitcoins price.Nice try though.

It's not scary at all. It's actually been there for a while now and nobody really pays attention to it because honestly it's something that doesn't affect bitcoin at all nor does it do anything - apart from scaring newbies i guess.

I'm not sure what the purpose of that site is, unless it's a joke. It isn't a database (that would be impossible), it's generating the pages in response to queries. So possibly an attempt at a scam, as in you look for your private key, and the holder of the list uses the generated pages to narrow down the possible addresses that have actually been used (there are 2^160 possible addresses, or 1,461,501,637,330,902,918,203,684,832,716,283,019,655,932,542,976). Since people have trouble putting that in perspective, there are only 2^63 grains of sand on all the beaches of Earth.

The total number of bitcoin addresses in use is so much smaller than the amount of possible addresses, that something like this is completely and utterly useless, and it would also be trivial to expand the number of possible addresses in the future. I laughed when I saw that website, cause I just know people who don't know the math are furiously putting page numbers hoping to find one Wink. You'll likely witness the heat death of the universe before that happens.

Searching through that 'database' or so called database will only waste your time. The chances of you finding a collision is no better than if you just created a bunch of new addresses from your desktop client, the odds are astronomical.

You'd think that industry experts are from a different cut of cloth. That we're not the same sort of people who believe Facebook Times and Whatsapp Tribune just because it's out there. At best it was an irresponsible tweet. At worst, it displays just the sort of common gullibility we don't want to believe industry experts share with the rest of us.

From what I remember there was a person on this forum that posted that same website that is in the Tweet when it was 2015 or so. There was a few people talking about it though the list inside of that directory has a bunch of addresses yet the private keys didn't match the address that it was linked to.

I am not sure if the website changed over the years, the odds are it didn't so this could just be a joke from Vitalik or fud so his project could get more recognition.

guys calm down on Vitalik -- I seriously doubt he is trying to FUD.  It's not like anyone would take this seriously... and he has $100M.  It's just a joke.

Seems like a harmless joke to me too, and educational for those not familiar with key generation

It would be harmless if it wasn't posted by Bitcoin's first competitor

But since it is, people are taking it exactly as that, i.e. as FUD intended at slinging mud at Bitcoin. The boy is certainly too young to understand such things, and understand that it will work against his coin in the long run. As the saying goes, when you say what you think, think what you say. I'm curious why people would ever want to put their money in this coin given its centralized nature and governance by someone with a 15 year old's mentality (apart from speculating, of course)

No, this site isn't even new.

It's been around since at least 2015 which was the first time i saw it.

I don't blame you for freaking out, i thought that bitcoin was hacked as well. Why is Mr. Buterin mentioning it now? Is he trying to spread FUD and get people to invest in Ethereum? Probably. This is nothing new and nothing to worry about - to go through this so called "database" will take thousands of centuries with current technology at least.

Here's the deal, this website supposedely contains all possible private keys for ONE address. It'd be impossible to skim it to find the key of it. Your chances of doing so are close to zero.

Thing is through, it's a nice way to visualize the impossibility of guessing the private key of an address. But really nothing more than that!

Exactly - this site is nothing more than a service like bitaddress. It generates a bitcoin address and private keys on the spot. In fact if you are willing to take the risk you could probably go to a page in the middle somewhere, get a private key and address and start using it(do it at your own risk because the code is unaudited). No way they were going to store all the database of bitcoin private keys in one website.

It's misleading as hell.
