Some more info to re enforce what I said about the amps:

For a system using a single reference clocked Radeon HD 7950 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater power supply. The power supply should also have a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Here is a great PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151109&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=3891137&SID=KRB

[H] gold awarded to it. That is a tough feat to get from there. Those guys are hardware and test the heck out of hardware. ONE +12 Rail, unlike many that will split it. One top of that it has well over 100 amps. That might be a bit over kill, but you know you got steady power and a higher energy bill lol.

I need help on my mining rig. Im using 2x powercolor hd7950, 1x sapphire hd7950. Athlon 2 for processor, 4gb RAM, strike-x 1100w 80 plus gold PSU. GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD3 for mobo , 500gb HDD. im using GUIminer scrypt alpha v0.03. No problem on running 2 GPU at low usage i13 but when i start to run the 3rd GPU i13 low usage, pc shuts down. I tried running 2 GPUs at high usage i20, pc shuts down after running 2nd miner. No overclocking yet. Using AMD APP SDK 2.9.

AMPS!
Dude you can have how ever many watts coming in you want, but if your +12 aint stable, and for those cards, very strong, your gonna fry your PSU, and take only who knows what with it.

If you really want me to I can look up a damn good PSU for you, plenty of amps and rock solid in every aspect, but your going to pay for the PSU, your paying for the quality, then again seeing what is at risk at frying.... its a small price to pay than your whole system.

I've been saying this a lot but for using multiple GPUs for memory intensive calcs 4gb probably isn't enough ram.

If it shuts down when you up the intensity on 2 cards to 20 then it seems unlikely to be power. That would be 2 x 300W plus say 250W for the MB and other devices. That shouldn't max out an 1100W PSU. Adding the third card would certainly be pushing it fairly close.

My first thought would be heat. If you slowly increase the intensity on 2 cards from 13 -> 14 -> 15 etc and let it mine for 5 mins, what do the GPU temps look like at each stage? How do you have your rig set up? Plenty of cooling? Enclosed or open case?

My only assumption is the PSU. 7950 in full stress consume 300W, 900W only for 3 of them, is 1100W enough?

i checked amd catalyst and it says power 300w. is there a way that i can reduce it to 200w to 250w?
