Far-Left Atheist Group Works With IRS To Crack Down On Churches…

The Internal Revenue Service has settled a lawsuit brought by a secular activist group, reportedly agreeing to adopt standards for determining and investigating whether churches and religious organizations have violated restrictions on political activity.

The precise terms of the settlement are still unclear, as is how the IRS will amend its policies to enforce tax law on churches in a way that is palatable to the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which has long decried “rogue political churches.”

The IRS and the Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a joint motion for dismissal July 17, though the court has not officially closed the case, according to Christianity Today.

That said, the atheist group has said that an unspecified settlement agreement is underway.

Freedom From Religion Foundation co-resident Annie Laurie Gaylor called the IRS’s decision to settle the case — a legal battle that began in federal court in Wisconsin back in 2012 — “a victory,” despite the moratorium currently in place on all IRS investigations of nonprofit groups.

In my experience there's no link between atheism and political ideology. I'm an atheist and verge on anarchism, I know some atheists which lean to conservative, some which have socialist views.
Look this is all too complicated.  It's like the guy in the bar who decides to put the make on a blind girl.  Finally he asked her if she's got a boyfriend.  She replied...

"Actually, I'm not seeing anyone."

True, except when it is pursued with religious fervor, has the trappings and characteristics of religion, and when the Non-Deity is piously worshipped.

Nobody worships the non-Deity. But when some idiots come up with a "praise our imaginary friend or die" mood, we have to defend ourselves.
The fact that we are atheists doesn't mean we can't defend ourselves because we've no imaginary friend to justify it!

I don't know about that.  It reminds me of the Organization of Procrastinators who decided to hold a protest.

...next week...

Ever been to a meeting of atheists?  In large part they are pro Clinton, pro Obama, pro socialist anything, pro Marxist, etc.  Rather ridiculous and boring actually.

Certainly doesn't mean one is equal to the other.

You got it wrong, you didn't went to an Atheist meeting, you went to a Communist meeting, who happens to be also atheists.
You can't have atheist meetings, because there's no mass, no church, no associations, no nothing, Just plain people going around their business and not caring about worshiping any imaginary friend.

You most certainly can have an Atheist organization.

It's just Non-Prophet.

 Cheesy bad-um tsshhh!

Especially since atheism is not a religion: to give a brilliant quote, "Atheism is a religion in much the same way as not collecting stamps is a hobby"

As you can have a Bitcoin organization, a Litecoin organization, a housewives who loves Tupperware organization... but there is no "Central Book" or "Common doctrine" to Atheism, so those are just isolated groups representing nothing but themselves.

Really? lol that's one huuuge generalization you've made there.

Not really sure why athiests would sit down and have a meeting, maybe they'll just talk about the weather?  Grin

American christians are different from our christians and so the atheists...

There are a lot of atheist meetings in the US because they are an ostracized minority and need to stay together.

Spendulus, every time I have a meeting it's an "atheist meeting", I know very few believers in my generation/age...

And communists are great persons, and those I know a lot. Smiley

Atheism doesn't mean that you are Republican or Democrat, pro-Choice or pro-Life or anything else...
Atheism means that each individual is able to think for himself and act accordingly.

Idk where came that idea that atheists are Communists. Communists are atheists, the inverse can be true or not.

I'm a conservative atheist, I personally find the irrationality and blind beliefs of organized religion with Keynesian tax & spend economics go together like bread and butter.

Kind of scary to see a country filled up with religion fanatics to held such many weapons as USA does... Hope "God" doesn't unleash them!

About 80% of atheists are pure socialist/communist/collectivists, in the US, Muslims vote as a block democratic.

Quoted for the lulz.
LOL....some athiests are not.  For example, those who lean toward Ayn Rand may be athiests who are pure capitalists.   And I've certainly met some, let's say from Muslim origins, whom I respect highly.  But they weren't exactly, "Muslim"....

Those who lean toward Ayn Rand are the objectivists, which is kind of cultish, it's not about capitalism...

I believe the vast majority of people in this forum are atheist and/or anti-theist not only because of education/skepticism but also because of anti-authoritarianism, and I don't see many commies around. Smiley
Capitalism is the economic lynch pin of Objectivism because in its laissez faire form, it's the ultimate respect and morality that rewards individual rights and the exercising thereof to one's fullest potential. According to Rand, a right is a moral principle defining and sanctioning man's freedom of action in a social context. Labor ownership is a corollary of one's basic right to life. That said, I have no comment nor care about this forum's makeup of religion or lack thereof.

As best as I know I would generally agree with your comments.  Although I guess you could sort of say that people posting here from communist countries are, well, communists.  But that doesn't mean much about their attitudes and beliefs, which is this question.
