If someone reports a name as being involved in a scam, it's likely that the person they are reporting has already successfully scammed at least one person. While I don't want to discredit the usefulness of Truecaller in identifying potential scammers, it's important to remember that the app is only as effective as the information provided by its users. By reporting a number as a scam, users can help others by flagging the number and preventing further scams from taking place. However, it's still unclear how scammers obtain people's contact information, and it's possible that it's not entirely random.

I just de fear for people wey no go school well, dem go easily fall victim for this people. This people that called you did the same thing to one guy like that i play ball together with in my area, na for this fasting period sef dem call am around 4, the guy get one provision store like that wey him de manage but him problem be say him na from village him come and na only secondary school him finish. Naso one lady call am con de tell am d same thing wey dem tell you say dem de do maintenance so dem go send am OTP make him forward am give dem. Thats how he sent dem the code and minutes later dem jus clear him account. I pity the guy sef as him call me con de tell me about am, he said he didn’t even suspect anything and he thought they are actually opay staffs. The worst part sef was that it was during dis scarcity of money period and all the things he sold then was paid for using bank transfer. That was how dey scammed this guy.

We just need to careful when strangers try to contact us and make we try educate people wey near us wey de ignorant about all this things.

It is same story everytime. People should be wise enough to know not to call out personal information to any one not known over the phone. Even if the person is known, security questions to ascertain the how and why is relevant inorder not to fall victims to scammers. It's just a normal precaution.
I am still very much surprised that people still fall prey to this old scam logic.

Wow thank you so much for this beautiful information,so this fraudster have moved to opay, the newly means and the saviour of our time because opay really help us this time, what is Nigeria turning into please, and what plains me most is that this people are always ready to harm the poor mases and not to help the poor mases,

And my question is this,why not them use this their intellectual to make things normalize when the bad leaders turn things to be hard for you, they should have challenge those who always put us into pressure almost all the time here Nigeria,why do they always like to put pepper 🫑🌶️🫑🫑 in our injury?,

Sometimes I begin to wonder what could this country be in next 20years to coming looking at how it's now,and I begin to ask my self are we sure we are save in this country, because we have never enjoy anything good in this country, and I ask again is it a crime for good thing to happen to us in this country,we are complaining about our elders who are leading us today, I begin to compare and contrast the youths and fathers our elders and I find out that the youths are in the higher speed compared to our elders. Please let us always be vigilant in all round oooh..

Please all of us operating opay should be alert and also try to inform our loved ones about this information. Just that the painful aspect of it is that a lot of people  have falling victim. All this fraudsters are trying by all means to take advantage of innocent  people.

The same thing happened to last month, I saw an advertisement on PAGA POS and the equipment that follow the purchasing of the device was attracted, I pm the page and they send me a WhatsApp number to follow up the registration process which I did. The first instruction was to download PAGA Agent  App from Google Play. Which I did, then I have to deposit 45k and screenshot the amount that is inside the account and snt to them with the username to begin the registration. Before I know I got OTP and he said I should send him the code to unlock the POS, I said no, the POS must be open in my front and when I tried to login to my account, PAGA company suspended the account for like 30 minutes because of over attempt login without success. I became to notice that they were trying to hack my account and took away with the money but PAGA was also wise enough to locked the account for over attempt. And I told him he that, "He was just trying to hack my account, it wouldn't work" and this guys didn't allowed the 30 minutes suspension to end as the 30 minutes ends I trying to login another 30 minutes again for about 5 times and I over smart them and login and transfered the money to my first bank account, and told them that they failed band the guys accepted it.

So be careful with your OTP.
You were indeed very lucky if you hard sent the OTP to him you would have kissed your money good bye. You should be careful of the people you chat with or ask for information on social media, if you need any information about a product or services you should do that by contacting them via their verified channels. You should be glad that this scammer is not a pro. Some of them have their own cloned apps on playstore that might look like paga... Sometimes you fit follow their link, download it, make a deposit and your money is gone.
But I think it's should be have been very clear to everyone that OTP code is meant you only to withhold and not to be share to anyone but still yet people still fall for this cheap trick of people claiming to be bank officials or something then they would now ask or require you to send them an OTP digit which when send as message clearly states that you should not share and people still send out regardless of this important note in the text.

You know watin I think, instead of people to dey aware of this plenty tricks way all these scammers dey always bring up, people need to understand certain functions, codes and how vital them be, how personal them suppose keep am and the damage e fit course them in cases of exposure. One truth we need understand be say, these schemes dem no dey finish. As you cast one, another one go come in place to replace the one you don cast. Na so this scammers life just be, them no dey stop to think means way them fit use finish person life and them dey take good advantage of the situation for the society.

If people for sabi those little things, things way them dey always sing for us say, "no banker go call you to ask you your pin or some privacy detail", e for dey safe some people when them approach them with some kind schemes.
Once them start, forget there position and just relate the watin them dey ask with the risk e carry for front.na like that you go know jow to protect yourself.

When I saw that OPAY was gaining popularity and becoming the go-to app for the fastest, surest and safest transactions, I knew it was only a matter of time before the people of the underworld lash on to it to defraud unsuspecting customers. Soo, when I first heard about people who disguise as OPAY agents to call and send OTP and even of a small scall business woman who fell prey to them, I was mad because in this age and time when information is flying all over the place, I do not expect anyone to fall for it. Anyways make all of us just dey very careful shall. Download Truecaller, that app na lifesaver.

But sha I hear say dem dey use jazz if not how person go just call you for OTP and you will call it the cod for them? Banks and all Fintechs have warned several times that they will never request OTP from a customer for whatsoever reason. I don't know why our people still dey fall for that one again.

That jazz thing ehn, I just dey doubt am somehow but people talk say na true say e dey really happen. Me I no know why I no too believe am sha, ahbi na because say I dey think say nothing go happen since I dey to God always against any evil?

That aside sha, thank you for the post as we go dey on alert if any of this thing sup. Since the money scarcity begin for Nigeria, I hear say Opay don get about 30million new users that opened account with them. Even the ones without formal education had to open the account for ease of transaction. I dey sure say na those kind people them dey target but God pass them. Person go dey more prayerful since this jazz matter don dey turn something normal to use when they want to lure their victims for scam.

Just as the saying goes information is powerful, it is nice you updated us with this unfolding events goig on in our country. The nefarious act of these nature is getting out of hand. One needs to be extremely careful and alert as not to fall victim or prey of these crooks. They are everywhere but I still wonder how they get to know that one is an account holder of the platform they are targeting and they get your details and comfortably call you telling you that they are from the customer care service of your service provider wanting you to cooperate with them so that they could help restore your account but what baffles me most is that they mostly call at night to carry out their act so that before their victim could raise an alarm they are already done with their act.

One needs to be careful these days on activities pertaining to details being released as scammers are on the spree to hack people's funds.

Na true say some of them de use jazz, but you know say no be everybody wey de use Opay and other wallets they educated, and therefore, those scammers can use their head and get what exactly they want from them.

I also see one for Facebook where some Edo boys scam one woman for palmpay wallet, and the woman no be illiterate;
The woman get issue with a transaction, she send money give customer and the money no gree enter customer's account, so she no get who to complain give based on say dem no get physical bank around wey she for go complain, so she use her phone to search for palmpay customer service, na there she see one number and she call the number that how them start with her oo, so tey she send them the OTP and them log in, pack her money, come still borrow money join for her account.

We need to de very careful with all these online wallets because the risk is very high because u no get who u complain give incase of this kind scam cases.

Nothing like jazz. Peso go fit chop you mugu of wetin u no get knowledge of. Just pray make you no fall victim of such thing. Those people wey the fall of victim na because them no get idea of such thing na why em d happen to them. No think sae as you no fit fall victim to scam others no suppose fall to am. No be everybody d enlighten for that aspect. You see this scammers dem d operate in different ways to dupe people of their money. They normally come up with interesting offer(money matter) wey go make you to do their biddings if you no know. It takes exposure of things wey don happen and the things wey you don hear go fit make you not to fall victim of their yeye scam. Na why be sae if you find out their ways of operation, you inform your family and friends about am so that them no go fall victim of am easily.

I concur with you that some of us fell prey to scammers due to a lack of informations. No matter how well-educated you are, if you are unaware of the scammers' contemporary tactics, you risk becoming a victim. As  Africans, we believe in Jaz, but Jaz hardly ever affects those who are properly informed about the unfair games that scammers, particularly want to play against them.

This brings to mind the time a scammer scam my brother's wife by pretending to be a banker and offering to help her activate the ATM card she had just received from the new account she had just established with UBA Bank.She was readily taken advantage of because she was unaware of the scammers' tricks.

~~~
Have you ever felt tensed before? Or have you ever been in a situation where you almost shit yourself? That's how it works most time l these scammers or fraudsters tend to use cases where the victim will be scared that they are about to lose something important to them and out of that fear they would be willing to handout whatever the scammer demands from them and that includes OTP.
I have experienced something like this, it was when I went to open my bank and account and to also generate my BVN. On the supposed day the bank had issues and couldn't complete mine so they asked me to return back the in two days time on getting there I received a call while they where attending to me, the called claimed that he (it was a masculine voice) works for the bank and that they would be needing my account number and my bvn is that they can complete my account creation, I informed the man attending to me and he confirmed that the person I just spoke with is a scammer.
Okay now, Imagine if this had happen to someone else?  someone that's still new to the system?
The day wey one call me ehh I waste his airtime by making the conversation longer and ask him to resend the OTP. After re-send I will come up with another excuse again until the code expires and continue like that until the werey con realizes and insult my father and end up the call Grin
Forget about bad leadership in this country, we the citizens are part of the problems too.
