When I was a kid, I would sometimes get some money from my grandparents on my birthday or Christmas.

It was usually something like $5 but that was a LOT to me back then. As my own sort of savings, I would often put one or two of the bills in a book that I liked and put it on the shelf and forget about it for a while.

A few years would go by and I would find the money the next time I re-read the book.

Fast forward to more recent years and I have done the same with some seed phrases loaded with like $20 of bitcoin. While it may seem like a trivial amount of money at the time, I have found wallets with like 1 million plus sats in them after just a few years or hodling some wallets in a book.

Obviously keep your main stack stamped into steel but if you want to keep a small amount on a paper wallet and leave it in a book that you are sure that you won't get rid of for years, you might enjoy finding it in years down the road.

When you find it, it is likely to have a much larger purchasing power than when you originally stash it.

I will never experience such thing from my wallet because I also saved my seeds phrase in a safe place and nothing will make me to miss place them because, I know how important they are to BTC users and I have also learned from other people mistakes.

I don't save my seeds phrase on phone or laptop, that is why i have never experience such thing from my BTC journey and if you are the type of person that is saving seeds phrase on your phone or laptop you are drawing dagger to your self because the day you lost the phone or laptop, it will be the end of your BTC in your wallet.

Hello,

I had read a comic strip where the heroine had lost her seeds and was looking everywhere for the recovery sheet, which made me smile I must say because it's happened to me before ... Yes, not everyone is super methodical (especially when you don't have many sats, are in mental overload or for other reasons). In the comic strip, the author says that it's happened to a lot of us, but what about you? Have you ever looked for your recovery words, or even your wallet, everywhere?

(I had the link to this book for those interested, but it's only in french I think)
Since I started using the wallet and discovered how important the seedphrase is I don't take it for granted. I have never lose my wallet seedphrase before or keep it in a place that someone else can have access to it. I see my wallet as my bitcoin because if anything happens to it I will lose everything I have in the wallet. All the wallet I have used the seedphrases are kept in a safe place that I can never forget.  The seedphrase is a very valuable one that must be treated with care, it will be foolish if people are not able to give account on how and where the seedphrase was stored.

It can only take to be discipline to keep the seedphrase in safe place without it get missing, that is why when I comes to bitcoin one needs to learn how to be discipline and careful this is the reason that a seedphrase can always be saved.

Of course anybody who get lost of his seed phrase should be blame more when the person loses his coins in a wallet all because the person forgets to remember his/her seed phrase should be so much put to blame......

Do you know that coin is money and money is your sweat then your sweat is your blood and you are telling when you are trying to protect or set your blood on safety 🛟 that you will not be careful??? No never we should and suppose to be very careful with anything that has do with safety code because it has cause the lost of many lives in real life and also funds and more when it comes to anything online and especially with this particular seed phrase safety code meh we actually need to be very careful and vulnerable with it....

So losing your coins due to been stupid or gullible of this situation you should be blame A lot of people still don't know the importance of seed phrase until you land yourself in a critical condition that you lost of coins or your wallet was hacked......

Please let's always be guided Thanks 🙏👍

Yes nobody will actually blame any one for losing their coins due to been gullible of the situation. Many were not aware of the importance of seed phrase not until they came here or lost their coins.

I doubt that, anyone who misplaces or lost his/her coins by not securing their seed phrase should not be blamed for their carelessness, provided that the person is literate who can read and write. When dealing with anything that concerns finance we should be careful. If the person actually takes their time to read about wallet they'll probably see seed phrase and it importance, so it now left for them to take it seriously or just joke around with it since their wallet is working fine until they lost their device or something happened to it. In my opinion, those who lost their seed phrase is careless because, there are several ways of safely storing your seed phrase, that is if you are not too lazy to use the search button.

Never! Because we know that the sheet of paper recording the seed phrase is important, so we will take care of this from the beginning and never forget to save this seed phrase.

If it's about a case out there I've read this news where they lost the seed phrase stored on the hard drive which was thrown away and even now it hasn't been found if I'm not mistaken, people when the price is low it's easy to forget but when they know the value is high they will continue to search but the results will still be zero not found.

Most of us that had our first wallets before having crypto knowledge where careless with our seed phrase, because we we're probably not well educated on the importance of keeping them in a safe and secured location, and that if someone had access to it, that they can have access to our coins through the wallet. I still have my first Bitcoin stuck in my first wallet till today, I imported the wallet and whenever I typed the seed phrase, it keeps telling me that I missed a spelling, I've tried different similar words without any luck, so I just left it. The experience is painful, because sometimes I'll just casually calculate the value of the Bitcoin inside, knowing that I might never access it ever.

Yes nobody will actually blame any one for losing their coins due to been gullible of the situation. Many were not aware of the importance of seed phrase not until they came here or lost their coins. In fact most of the wallet we set up in the past to me are wallets that were not secured well and if I am to advice anybody I will say they should change their wallet to another one and then send the coins there at least they now know how to properly protect their coins better.

As for your problem there is a way to recover missing words of a seed phrase provided the others are correct, you can follow this thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-finderouter-a-bitcoin-recovery-tool-v0160-2022-09-19-5214021

Anyone who fails to securely store their mnemonic seed properly will definitely loss their mnemonic seed and this is fact. That's why we need to take this very serious, however securing you seed phrase is one of the most basic aspect of holding that we mustn't ingore as it may lead to loss of all our assets. We have been strictly advised not to save our seed phrase anywhere near the internet, no matter how secure you think the site or online platform might be, e can be hacked or the service could crash as anything is possible. I heard some person talking about saving seed phrase in Google drive, that is not a reliable way of storing your seed phrase, the best way is to use an airgapped system either by using a sheet of paper or you use a hardware wallet.
Exactly what is on my mind, mnemonic seed is the only means you can reopen your Bitcoin wallet, if you lose it you will not be able to recover the Bitcoin inside the wallet. Seriously some Bitcoiners pays deft ears to things like this because they haven't lost a single satoshi for the first time. Before creating your Bitcoin wallet I suggest you first think of were to keep your seed phrase, the areas where you keep your seed phrase matters most then when you are writing down the seed words. If you wright your seed phrase and they are not correct, you can rewrite them when you notice any errors but when you miss placed the recovery seeds dude I don't think the best hacker in around you might be able to recover them for you. There's is a thread I read about seed phrase and were to keep them, I see lot of suggestions.

Recovery phrase has to do with generated words by your cryptocurrency wallet which gives you previllage to reach to all your crypto associated with that wallet . Seed phrase nor backup phrase stores all your information that is needed in other to get back your Bitcoin money on-chain, seed phrase backs up funds on the blockchain alone, funds on the off-chain just like Lightening Network and it is act on a greater amount relating to a set of produced numbers.

Unluckily for someone to recover his lost crypto wallet without the seed phrase is not possible, only the seed phrase can make you get your private keys.if you have forgotten your seed phrase, relaxe take your time you might remember it  or see where you kept it.

I believe that with first experience in cryptocurrency, most of us usually use centralized exchange account as our first wallet. It is custodial wallet and we only see the number of coin but we don't have private key so we don't actually have that coin.

Non custodial wallet gives us private key and control our coins.

Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts

It means you made your wallet backup by writing down the seed phrase but you did not test that backup for recovery before funding that wallet.

How to back up a seed phrase

If it is only one word, you have good chance by trying different words in BIP word list  but if you wrote inaccurately more words, no chance.

By the time I came to the forum and learned about Bitcoin, I was quite prepared in terms of the security of storing anything online. I had experience working on the Internet with other sites that required accuracy, and we can say that the information that the seed phrase must be stored very carefully was not a big science for me.

Another point is that the very creation of the wallet, and all the steps with its actions, I received in a personal message from a very good person here on the forum, who, one might say, literally persuaded me to open a wallet and start participating in signature companies. I'm still grateful to him, and I think he remembers that.
Therefore, the fact that I did not lose anything, but on the contrary, I only gained, is the positive influence of this forum and the people who gather here.

Oh man, lost recovery phrases.  Been there myself back in the day when I first got into crypto.  I was like a kid in a candy store, downloading every wallet under the sun not thinking twice about keeping track of all those darn seed phrases.  Napkins, sticky notes random notebooks - I had passphrases scattered all over!

These days I'm much more organized with a dedicated crypto notebook locked up safe and sound.  but I definitely remember those early days of frantically searching under couch cushions and digging through drawers hoping to miraculously uncover a lost passphrase. and  Talk about stressful! Now I just gently remind my friends getting started with crypto: take good care of those seed phrases! Write em down clearly and store 'em properly on day one.

This message made me laugh a lot, it happened to me too... On the whole I find the answers honest enough because even when we know what to do, we don't always do it; it must be human nature I guess.

It's also worth noting that saving shitcoin portfolio seeds doesn't seem that important to most of the people who replied. By the way, I also lost the seeds of a LISK wallet, I don't even know if that coin still exists...

I've been pretty careful with it over the years - treating it like the password to a crypto vault.

Many folks run into issues - they write it down and lose the paper, store it digitally and lose access from tech problems, or they just don't plan ahead on how to keep it secure.  I managed to hold onto mine all this time, keeping it locked up and safe from accidents or hardware failures. It's a relief not having any close calls with losing the phrase and  give myself a little pat on the back for keeping it secure all this time.

Whenever people say they lose their seed phrase, I do feel bad for them because I don’t even know how they will feel after losing their bitcoin. I haven’t lost my seed phrase before, but I do sit and think about people who lost their seed phrase. I do put myself in their shoes. I just imagine how bad I am going to feel if I lose access to my bitcoin. If you are planning to invest in bitcoin, the first thing to be done is to learn about wallet security and how to protect your private key before investing, because if you don’t learn all those things, after investing in bitcoin, you might end up losing your bitcoin at the end.

For starters it is normal to lose the seeds or recovery phrases but most of these wallets don't have any balance. I've got my own personal experience with that but with MEW and IIRC, there's a small amount that I wasn't able to retrieve anymore from them.

But as we stay here, we are learning every single day and once we create another one. We take note of what's with the warning about writing it because every wallet where we generate it, there's always the reminder that if we lose it, then we lose that wallet forever.

Little mistakes are fine but if you go big with losing it and you can no longer find it upon having some balances there, it is more hurtful if it's got Bitcoin.

I have never been a situation where I was not aware of where my seedphrase was at a particular time, for any of my wallets. This is because of how much emphasis was placed on it from the sources I gained exposure to crypto through. I learnt early on that how you secure a $10 wallet is exactly the same with how you secure a $10,000 one, cause it's the principles you build that help to keep you secure.

The closest I've had to panic in relation to my seedphrase was a point I was flustered and mistyped a word. I didn't find the "next" option on electrum and panicked a lot.

I've never lost my bitcoin wallet seed phrase since I've been connected here. Many may have lost their wallet's seed phrase due to not keeping it safe and many may have had it stolen or lost somehow even after keeping it safe. But if everyone can keep his wallet seed phrase very safe with his own precautions then surely his wallet will be safe. But I have kept my wallet seed phrase very safe for my future precautions I hope I can be very safe in the future.

I owned different wallets already, several hardware wallets, hot wallets, cold wallets but never had experience of losing those important thing (seeds, passwords, email, etc) for recovery. Plus i placed those things in only one area only so i didn't find it somewhere else if ever i needed it.

This is actually a good way of saving things because this way you know where the precious stuff is and this narrow down your search whenever you need to search for it. But my problem with this method of one place storage of different wallet seed phrase is the single point of failure it offers to me. Although you can be a very carefree or say private person that know one can be know maybe you have coins or not but still shit happens, should any one get hodl of that paper or know of that place, the whole Wallets are exposed, most especially when he doesn’t needs to look for the individual wallets used to generate the seed except of the wallets that customize their seed seed like electrum if not one wallet will just be used to recover those seeds, i still think multiple palace of storage for each seed phrase is better
