I don't see why new technology implementations would make the price rise. Since only actual Bitcoin holders will understand what it does mean, that probably won't drive masses here.
When segwit is activated, and eventually Lightning Network is put to work, then it means that Bitcoin can grow to suit the world better. See it as some sort of a "future proof" update that is really needed to get Bitcoin to the next level. It makes everyone excited as these are the updates people have been waiting for. Mega merchants thinking to accept Bitcoin payment might hold back because of the 1MB block size. These will surely step in when they see the time is right. They have entire research teams to look at what's best for them.

Ok maybe a few guys around here hope that to happen.
But I'm pretty sure the overall majority is knowing of the actual situation which will need much more than just SegWit to push us up close to the ATH.

Bitcoin is still king, at least for now.
Every exchange needs a common currency to convert altcoins.
So even if people stopped spending Bitcoin directly, they would still need a way to convert one coin to another.
BTC is the gold standard right now. That may change eventually, but for now $600 coins are a decent investment.
You probably won't lose money, and you could stand to make a nice profit.
With Segwit coming soon, and the possibility of some new services like Mega accepting Bitcoin, the chances that the price go up are even better.

Segwit is just a step before price raise, we need something else to pump bitcoin price such as raise the HYPE or spread the words about how useful is segwit for bitcoin future

Segregated Witness + Lightning Network are 2 biggest protocol upgrades bitcoin will experience in its history so far.
If these two technologies will be implemented and boost bitcoin network capabilities then price will follow.
Of course it is silly to speculate how big this price advance will be - and $1000 is more like psychological barrier more than real threshold.

i read the page on https://bitcoincore.org/ which was about SegWit and i think it was good and informative with the roadmap.
also you can use google to find more opinions about SegWit like pros and cons. but remember whenever it comes to this topic a lot of the information you can find online is biased and many are wrong (whether in supporting it or in denying it)

Companies, venture capital, banks are already switching to superior networks like eth and monero.
