Btw guys, how to handle the situation if you got a PM offering to sell you an account? Should this be given to the admins of this board? Because if the seller doesnt tell you the name of the account he wants to sell to you, then how can it ever be proven?

Of course it is illegal here. We don't tolerate account buying here.
So, 'Ad space' selling good. 'Account' selling bad.
Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
is there any evidences to support the assumption that restricting account sell will reduce scam?
I don't think that can be formal policy here. Anyway people will find the way to sell/buy.
But others will try to upgrade accounts artificially - increasing scam.

enjoy being in your own profile and try to make friends and learn from other users.
i believe that your account reflects your own personality. so, buying someone else account is kind of cheating.
anyway that's my opinion.

How to realize whether the account on sale is hacked or not?

That's the same question I was thinking too. Also, Even If an account is stolen/sold, Can't you recover using your email address? Password reset or something like?

Maybe it will be difficult to know that the account was hacked account or not. If the first email is not replaced maybe you can recover your passwords.

There are also a lot of stolen/hacked accounts. So people try to sell these to make a quick buck.

Most of the accounts up for sale are hacked ones. Else why should anyone sell their accounts for BTC0.01, when they can easily get double that amount in a week from signature campaigns?

Thanks for the clarification, so the most probable reason is the account was stolen i thought they will stop joining signature campaign anymore thats why they sell it for atleast the former efforts was not wasted. Is there a record section here that their rank account was stolen or hacked? Anyway i will be always vigilant for my account so it will not be stolen too.

The word 'sell' is more appropriate when it comes to the trade of account because one is transferring the ownership of that account. On the other hand, when you are allowing someone to use your signature space, it is known as renting that space for a specific period of time and not forever like accounts trading.

It is not recommended to trade accounts unless you have it as a collateral because generally, such account trades encourage scam behaviours and it causes the loss to the community members. However, you are free to lend your signature space.

Mostly yes, rankings like Hero are valuable for long-term profit by just joining good signature campaigns

Is selling accounts legal? And where it mostly happens, how do you think? Shocked

Of course it is illegal here. We don't tolerate account buying here. Although you can find a lot of members selling it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=234.0.

But once your account has been found to be bought, you will be tag by DT members automatically. So your account will be useless now and you just waste your precious bitcoin. So if you are thinking of getting one, I suggest you don't and used the route what most of us here have been doing in years. Posting months after months, and most importantly learning while earning. Don't hurry, in due time your account will rank up and you wouldn't notice that you already a Full Member -> Senior Member. Goodluck in your journey.

People buy accounts because of it's potential to earn money through signature campaign. Because in signature campaigns, the higher your rank, the higher the stakes that you can get. Higher ranking accounts earn more money just by joining a signature campaign. And also, higher rank accounts here has some kind of reputation. If you are a Hero member and you join a translation campaign for example, you're more likely to be picked than a Jr. member joining the same campaign.

Thanks for the responses guys. I figured it was related to sigs, but I wasn't positive.

Selling hacked accounts is shameful.

Due to the emergence of ICO's the signature space of all the accounts on bitcointalk suddenly became relatively value 'real estate'. So logically this resulted in some hacks and people selling their accounts to others that need the rep or want to drop their signature in there.

A lot of the times its hacked accounts (including mine, luckily I got it back before it was sold), but it can also be people who aren't interested in bitcoin anymore and want to make a quick buck off of an old account they have.
