Well, I transferred coins to an 2 accounts that I havnt used for a while. The account had a 6 letter/number combo password and well, 2 hours later they were gone

So, dont have 6 letter/number password :S
 
I checked one of the accounts for IP logins and well, they were from Ukraine. 

You need your SSN number to use them.

Such as drug dealers, illegal immigrants, and tax evaders...

MoneyPak is for people without a bank account to be able to use PayPal and buy items online.

I wasn't saying it had to do with drugs, I was just saying that I'm used to interacting in an environment where people aren't automatically assumed to be scammers and thieves. I understand WHY things are the way they are with Bitcoin, and I'm not saying that people are wrong for being paranoid, I'm just ignorant to the methods scammers use to protect themselves from each other, as I'm not used to dealing in an environment where nobody's able to trust each other.

Drug trade, and gray market are really the only other areas I can think of where that might be the case, so I have to assume that those are the only other common uses for things like moneypacks (aside from maybe, low-level tax evasion and money laundering).

I can't imagine a single scenario besides Bitcoin, where one would need to use Moneypack, instead of a more legitimate and recognized form of payment, unless there's something already a little shady going on in the first place. Nobody goes looking for harder ways to get stuff done, unless there's a good reason to hide what they're doing. That's all I'm sayin'.

I've been trying since yesterday to find a way to purchase about $1300 worth of Bitcoin, for a group buy of ASIC chips that's going to close at any minute, and everything so far has been an epic fail. I can't find anybody local who sells, for me to be able to do a F2F purchase; all the companies that do this are gonna takes days to weeks, and individuals who I could buy it from online don't want to take normal payment methods, and usually don't have enough to justify the extra effort, because I'd have to do that multiple times for multiple transactions with multiple people, and then just HOPE they all come though on time...

So I'm pretty frustrated with Bitcoin as a currency at this point. And probably taking it out on people who don't deserve it.

This has nothing to do with drugs or black or gray market and has everything to do with exchanging an irreversible form of money for an easily reversible form.  Convert your reversible form (PayPal, CC, etc.) to an irreversible form (MP, cash, Dwolla, etc.) then you will have no problem exchanging it for BTC.  As noted above the problem is not with BTC the problem is with the easily reversible PayPal and Credit Cards.

Actually, bitcoin works great as a currency in this circumstance.  The problem isn't that bitcoin are a poor electronic currency, the problem is that U.S. dollars (or any other government backed paper currency) are a horrible electronic currency.

Think about it.  You'd run into the exact same problem if you wanted to purchase U.S. dollars.  Nobody would be willing to mail you U.S. dollars either if you were going to pay them with paypal, or credit card, or any other form of reversible payment system.

Offer something that can't be reversed (such as a product, or a service, or MoneyPak) and people are much more willing to offer their irreversible bitcoins.

Ahah! So it's basically like a pre-paid credit-card... Do they have limits on how much you can do at a time?

You can get a MoneyPak in Walgreens and stores like that, the card cost 5USD and you can load money onto it and then you give the code to the vendor of the Bitcoins and they can load it onto their PayPal and there is no charge back risks.

Kinda defeats the purpose of having an alternate currency, if I have to drive all over the country and convert it to 67 different forms of USD, before I can actually USE the currency, no? 

Bitcoin is not a currency, it's a commodity trade...

That said, how does this "moneypak" stuff work? I'm old-school, I guess. I mostly do legitimate, taxable, transparent, normal-people payment methods for all my transactions, so I'm not hip to whatever payment methods people use to buy drugs and other black/gray market goods.

Yes as the previous post said you just need to use a different method.  If you go to https://localbitcoins.com you can either buy using cold hard cash in a face to face transfer OR look at all the people selling for cash by mail, wire transfer, MoneyPak, etc.

Try another method, such as a MoneyPak or something.

How does one go about becoming "trusted"?

I'm trying to get my hands on some BTC to participate in the group buy for avalon chips, and everybody seems to be an epic fucking fail. Ability to buy Bitcoin (or lack thereof) in any reasonable amount of time is probably the biggest hurdle to people being able to adopt this currency.

At any rate, I'm not sure how to convince people to trust me. I'm a long-time Paypal user. I've got a stellar rating on "Gunbroker" (like ebay for firearms), I'm a legitimate businessman, federally licensed firearms dealer in the U.S. Regularly do domestic and international wire transfers in excess of $10,000.00.... But none of that holds any weight on a web forum, when you're a n00b, does it?  

Can you tell us a little bit about how it happened (so we can all learn).
