This is just another payment network, like Paypal or Dwolla.... Exchange still need to have MSB license.
Right now Paypal prohibit any transactions for checks, money orders or anything subjected to money transmitting. What makes you think GOOGLE wont do the same?

If this actually takes off and doesn't suffer from nanny state meddling (oh no, you can't pay for guns with this! guns are evil!), it most certainly will reduce the long term growth of BTC. Kill? Nope. But it will put one hell of a dent in it. Such competition would make BTC more applicable to black market transactions and people who want to store wealth only they can touch. Still a useful thing to have. However, the value of that nestegg sitting behind your private key is based purely on speculation, just like fiat. Some would rather just bury gold, guns and ammo.

This is fantastic. Any way, regulated or not, that makes sending and receiving money easier is a good thing. Bad guys will side step or anonymize to get around regulation, good guys will have an easier means of transferring money. This is just good for everybody, all around.

Bitcoin killer ? If they control it, no, never. A bitcoin killer is a currency that is anonymous, faster, with less overhead, and better crypto.

It is just the beginning, Google will soon make its own digital currency or acquire Ripple after they realize the potential.
I think they're more likely to acquire Ripple or create their own front end for bitcoin, than to create yet another digital money form. Why reinvent the wheel?
Ripple is far too divisive though. I suspect they know that, and hopefully they stay away from it.
