Why can't they be taught the truth? reminds me of the stupid program I did in grade school that they taught us about drugs. All they pretty much said over and over is drugs are bad and they will kill you.

Well. You try weed.. It's not so bad. Maybe they lied about all the drugs?

They should have taught you logic in school instead of about drugs.  "They say killing is bad, I ate a hamburger which is from a killed cow, so maybe what they taught me about killing is wrong."

What is the truth about sex and drugs?  Is it really a professional teacher's job to do teach a child something that any other human being (like a parent) could teach a child?

We never had a teacher teach our "drugs/sex" program it was a police office that came in once per week.

Oh that person has no bias.  This is exactly why schools should not teach sex education, they will bring in a nun to teach it.

What is the truth about sex and drugs?  Is it really a professional teacher's job to do teach a child something that any other human being (like a parent) could teach a child?

The objective is to provide a basic and neutral formation so that every young citizen have a minimum level of knowledge on that subject. Parents, for many reason, can be unable to teach those things to their kids. It's not because the parents are dumb that we need to spread the dumbness for each generation.

It's not about teaching kids if sex is good or bad, it's about teaching them how it works. There's too much bullshit floating around with the religious crazies and the availability of porn, you need to teach minimal standards of having basic sex. It's not about "use a condom", it's about "HOW to use it". It's about giving them references or ressources on how to do some things without using porn as a standard. Improvisation comes when there's no guidelines and problems occur when there's improvisation usually.

If the teenager want to know how blowjobs work, or how anal sex work, why do we need to keep the secret? Either you explain them the basic guideline of how to do it, either they will go on google, look for it and find videos of girls choking on blowjobs or ass being rammed like it's jell-o.

Next there will be standardized testing on sex education.

If schools taught children how to critically think from their reading, writing, and math courses, then the students would be smart enough to know that there are directions on how to use a condom on the box it comes in.  They would also know that they can go online and read advise from people like Dan Savage.  Google is a great resource for knowing how to have sex.  Wikipedia has an entry for every sex position there is and it is not laced with pornography, but actual information.

The problem with children is not having basic knowledge, it is that children cannot assess risk like adults are able to do.  The way to develop ways to assess risk is to develop the skills needed to assess risk, such as critical thinking skills.  Schools are already loaded with pointless crap that distracts students from learning things that will actually benefit them in the future.  Many students that go to college must take remedial courses because the lack the basic logic and reasoning skills required to make a coherent sentence.

But writing is no big deal, they know how to use condoms and have anal sex.  They can fuck like a god, who cares if they can't read the directions on how to put on a condom, someone showed them how to.

Of course it should be taught, I don't see how this is even debatable.

Should be taught when they are 11-12 years.  Slightly off topic but, abstinence/waiting for marriage is a joke because...

1.  Kids are hitting puberty way earlier than they used to.  Often starts at 9 or earlier in girls.
2.  People are waiting to get married until they are way older than they used to.  ~25 or so instead of 17-18.

"waiting or marriage" wasn't a big deal when you hit puberty at 16-17 and got married at 18.  But waiting a decade or more after puberty?  It's a joke.

Gateway theory made into self-fulfilling prophecy by shitty state education. Just like the abstinence-only education makes moms at 15.

I don't know if I can Sad LOL I have a ridiculously high sex drive anyway but yes, I suspect if guys at least were subjected to it at a much earlier age we'd be a lot more used to it by now, the whole argument against more exposure leading to men treating women badly is a load of bullshit.

A perfect example would be me and life drawing which is just drawing naked people, the weird thing is, if I think of women in that context, I have a much easier time of it than if for instance if I imagined them doing something really kinky, but then again, I guess that's the same for most guys where getting used to the idea of women being capable of doing kinky things in the first place would make life easier for sure... If that made any sense O_O

I learned about sex by just watching porn, my teachers and my parents were utterly useless in that area.

This is exactly why education should be earlier and much more in depth. I know that I learned the same way and have spent a ridiculous amount of time de - conditioning myself from this shit.

I think it's rather sad for people to think that a children's life should be filled with nothing but crappy education and reading through textbooks which is all mine was but there you are, to each their own.

That's what I think as well Stochastic, the schools can't even teach basic English and Math yet they want to teach all these other subjects at the same time and grade everyone on it? No wonder the countries with this education is doing so badly.

School is for learning how to read, write and do math.  Anything else should be learned in the real world by experience or by family or friends.

Schools should be used to teach:
1) Sex. It produces HUMANS(like, real ones, that you have to care for and help grow) and is at the base of every loving relationship. Keeping people in the dark on that subject is completely irresponsible. The bible or coran or whatever religious book bring no value to this subject and should be trashed ASAP.

2) Nutrition. You become what you eat. If you eat shit, you become shit. People in North America are completely clueless on that subject, I still can't believe how we ended up with so many fat people.

3) Business. The lack of skill in that domain is terrifying. The employee mentality got so strong that people forgot how to do business. Go back 300 years ago, and everybody was running a business. The only thing people know to do is to trade their time for money. And since they suck at trading, they get the short end of the stick with a really low profit on their time.

With that, people will know how to make a family, what to use to feed their family and how to acquire the ressources for your family.

Excuse me but about what should we discuss? School should teach things! And sexual education is definitely one of the things that a school must teach!

Problem is normally people are too shy to talk about it, if I ever have kids I'll just get it over with and explain it, if they don't get it I'll just show them porn lmao! Cheesy

I grew up in former Yugoslavia. Booze and porn were easily accessible to teenagers, and yes, there was some sex ed as part of biology in the 6th or 7th grade. Nobody was really obsessing about teenagers and alcohol or sex. So, my take is - yes, sex ed, and much more.
