1. There is a bunch of newbie accounts just dropping movies without actually writing anything. In order to fight this, you guys impose posting rules which again almost nobody adheres to.
Actually, most adhere to the rules. At least those interested in contributing to this topic.
I would much rather prefer a few personal sentences about the movie than some link to IMDB. I can google it myself if I need it. Maybe something like I have written under item 3.
The rule is not 100% strict. It's mostly about avoiding spam and having posts from users interested in making good movie suggestions. If you look at this post, for example,
I'm thinking of ending things (2020) - Drama: a psychological fantasy film which at first seems boring, especially if you are not going to watch prepared. But it is a film that bugs the mind. An existentialist film that reflects on life in a philosophical way, with many references from classic authors. One of the most interesting things about the film is that it mimics the flow of the mind, it is as if we are watching it as memories or reflections of someone over the years and years of life.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7939766/Art of Love: The Story of Michalina Wislocka - Biography (2017): a Polish film about the story of Wislocka, a sexologist involved in love triangles and conflicts with the church to publish a book on sexuality during communism. The film is about the life and work of this radical doctor who published the book '' The Art of Love '' in 1976, despite censorship and repression.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5370828/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1Mr. Nobody (2009) - Sci-fi : In 2092, humanity has conquered mortality through the endless renewal of cells. The world watches in fascination as the 118-year-old Nemo Nobody, the last mortal on Earth, edges towards death. Curious to know of life before quasi-immortality, they interview Nemo. Nemo explains that before birth, children remember everything that will happen in their lives. At the moment of conception, the Angels of Oblivion erase their memory. The Angels forget about Nemo, allowing him to "remember" different possible futures for himself. The movie shows different possibilities of our existence.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485947/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0Waking Life (2001) - Animation/ Drama : an American experimental animated that explores a wide range of philosophical issues, including the nature of reality, dreams and lucid dreams, consciousness, the meaning of life, free will, and existentialism. Some dialogues remains in my mind after years!
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243017/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 it's obvious it does not respect the OP's rule. However, it is also clearly visible that the user truly intended to offer some information about the recommended movies and not just to spam the topic. As a consequence, his post remained.
If somebody posts one liners just delete them without giving warning. They will give up soon or later.
We can only report such posts to mods, as the topic is not self-moderated. It was discussed in the past if this topic should be closed and another one, self-moderated, to be started, but we decided to keep this one as it has already a history and plenty of good movies are already mentioned here. However, if you check the posts made since Oct. 6th, 2020, you'll see there are no more 1 liners or obvious which are obvious as they were made for spam. For example, this is how looks a part of my report history:
2. "This movie was suggested in previous post" - Do you really expect people to read trough 20+ pages of topic to check if some movie was mentioned? I am not gonna do that for sure if I just want to help someone by recommending a great movie.
It would be nice if users would do that, although I doubt they would. But if you want to make a good contribution you should take care for not repeating what was already mentioned. Indeed, when the topics pages reach big numbers, this is almost impossible.
3. Example what I would like to see about recommended movie, all the data is from head and there could be errors but the point will be conveyed.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Great classic movie, a little bit older but holds well for the time. If you like Guy Ritchie and you did not watch this one, what are you waiting for?? If you don't know who Guy Ritchie is, find out as soon as possible!! I suggest you start with Snatch and then proceed with mentioned movie. You can expect a lot of fun and some action but it requires special taste. Sort of like Tarantino or Del Toro movies. Don't get me wrong, those three film makers have nothing in common except that people either love them or hate them.
As I said before, the posting rule was made for avoiding spam. If someone will write a description such as you mentioned, or as the one quoted by me above, nobody would report that post, as it will be clear that the respective user really tried to make a good contribution to the topic. By the way, I'm also a fan of Guy Ritchie, Tarantino and Benicio Del Toro
I don't really like how this topic looks at the moment
I'm sorry you feel this way, but this is the best we could do here. All in all, the topic contains hundreds - even
thousands - of good movies, many have a description about their genre, year of launch, an imdb link or a few words written about them. The topic is not allowing spam for more than 2 months now, the presented information is organized somehow and I can say we are on the correct path.
