Don't believe everything you read on reddit. Has any evidence been presented on this or are you literally just going by something you read on the internet?

Use your brain. There were quite a few major drug dealers in SMP, who lost more than BTC10,000 each. Some of them openly threatened to kill the thief if he was ever identified. And I don't think that all of these drug dealers are unrelated to any organized cartel.

Yes... this is going to end very badly for Jiřikovský. At the time of the SMP robbery, a few drug lords, with connection to powerful mafias and cartels were rumored to have lost millions of USD in coins and cash. And now the identity of the thief is established, I don't think they will remain quiet.

Can't believe this actually.... Just a few days after the robbery, some of the Reddit users had identified Thomas Jiřikovský as the possible thief.

They deserve a big round of applause. But I am sad that the biggest thief is still roaming free (Karpeles).

Don't mess with the Internet peoples' monies. It don't end well.

He's a very stupid man, recently had a presentation about darkmarkets and bitcoin criminals, they are untraceable of they do it right, but allmost all fall victim to their own greed, couldn't he just waited a couple of years, emigrate to a country without expidition treaty, and voila he would have got away with it, but no, they all want to bask in their wealth immediately, laughable, guy won't make it for a week...

Will this bring any justice? Maybe more Bitcoin auctions down the road?

I guess a decent amount has been converted into fiat already. Maybe the rest is locked in his head but that's not going to be much use to him further down the road. They'll be watching every possible funding option.

I think the lesson we should take from this nincompoop is - be nice and then fade away.

He could have made the same amount of money if he just kept running the site honestly for the next 20 years. I guess fast money is too tempting, and he thought he could get away with it.
20 years is a really long time to achieve ROI. He reasonably should be able to double his money in ~8 years if he invested it in the stock market.

He probably reached his ROI within first month or two.

Earning the same amount of money that you could have gained by stealing is not "ROI"

Not sure if we're allowed to talk about this here but what's the new famous black market these days? still SR 2.0?

Check here: http://www.deepdotweb.com/2013/10/28/updated-llist-of-hidden-marketplaces-tor-i2p/
Very helpful, thanks.

A great resource. But I thought many (if not most) DNMs were down due to a vulnerability with Tor hidden services?

Good to see that justice was served. Hopefully this is in the mind of other bitcoin scammers who are still on the run. Make money honestly or constantly worry.

It is always funny that these people think they will get away with scams like this. Then you go out and buy huge assets like a house and you think no red flags will be raised?

I wonder if his girlfriend will go to jail too? She should have know that he used her account for illegal money laundering.  Sad

deserved severe punishment imposed on persons who have committed fraud. I hope other con men in the field of bitcoin soon caught, because they have damaged the reputation of bitcoin.

Karma seriously screws you up, there is no escaping.

I'm curious why karma doesn't work for USA presidents...

Too funny!
Glad to see these thieves are being dealt with ...

The fact that someone getting investigated just because he suddenly got rich is really scary.

Why don't he just tell authority that he bought those coins years ago when it was only few cents a pop ? How did police end up revealing the stolen coins ?
