They are still a very long time to be delivered

I wouldn't be in a hurry to order one right now there are so many people in the queue behind you that, by the time it ships, absent a major rise in the value of BTC, it may no longer be profitable.

Most certainly, the profit rates you see today will no longer be achievable by the time your ASICS actually ships

You should only buy one if you can stand to permanently lose the cash, so don't do it if you're tight on funds. It hasn't yet been shown that e.g. BFL will actually fulfil all orders, and after all, their CEO is an ex-con. Additionally, if they do, it might take a whole while to deliver, so the difficulty will be way up (~10-100x current)

As has been stated, the issue is actually getting one.

It will take ages to get an ASIC.

By the time you get it, if you ever will. It will probably make less than 10th of the profits your GPU does now if it has BFL sticker on it.
If something else, do the calculation with some of the many mining calculators on the net and start making moneeeey..  Cool

Order one from a reputable company that delivers on time.

Personally I would wait until people have orders in hand.

If you order from BFL, you'll get it... never. BFL will just steal your money.

It may be as easy as working out how much you will earn, but it's actually getting your hands on a unit that is the hard part.

How hard is it to get hold of one? Can you point me to a site?
Would I be better off getting a mining contract if I want to earn a bit of dosh?
If you order now, you will probably get it after six or even nine months.

I don't think "should I buy one" is the question... If you could even get one, there is a waiting list of thousands before you...

Check a mining calculator to see how much you will be making based on your individual power costs: http://dustcoin.com/mining. Of course you will need to factor in a long delay before you receive the ASIC, and a considerable increase in difficulty in the meantime.

How much power would a 5gh/s box draw? I factored in a conservative 4Gh/s, 250W draw, and $0.30/Mw (£.19 per kwh) and it gives me a profit of $152 per week, whereas my 7970 rig draws about 500 watts and produces 645Mh/s avg, which is just $1.40 a week 0_o

I am currently getting near 600 MH/s with my AMD 7970, should I buy a basic butterflylabs model that produces 5000MH/s of power? How much profit would I make per day with that kind of setup?
Are there better models/brands? I'm looking to stay under $600 with customs and shipping to the uk
