I've noticed the price of LTC go up to 4 USD on BTC-e, but it's been pretty disappointing in general.

Yeah its only up 80x from the start of the year, pretty disappointing, big waste of time, no future in Litecoin, move along, nothing to see here

Personally I would say bitcoin, but both work equally as well for online purchase.

I bought bitcoins & litecoins and invested in hosted mining for both of them. It is getting difficult to buy btc now.
Btw if a major exchange start to accept ltc it will certainly increase its value so not bad.
Mastercoin also has a good potential and there is only ~600k coins only.

Neither. I suggest looking into some of the upcoming altcoins if you want exponential returns.
upcoming altcoins? like what? goldcoin?  bahahahahahaha  Grin

in all fairness, i am trying to wrap my head around mastercoin.... but i'm not sure it warrants the excitement that i see around.

there's a chance litecoin will take off eventually. it's all about risk tolerance. litecoin is much, much more speculative than bitcoin. much, much riskier. if you want to be safe, invest in btc.

Diversify for sure, Litecoin does have a strong future.

I would also recommend looking at Peercoin.

I would invest 90% btc and 10% ltc
Yes, that's how you should invest. Diversify your portfolio. If you are investing $1500 buy litecoins of $150, even if it gets to $10 in Nov 2014 you got your money more than doubled in a year  Wink

As someone who has mined, invested, and traded both LTC and BTC, I would recommend diversifying like this. You can make continual income if you day-trade BTC-USD-LTC smartly.

Small players are out for BTC, although I rather buy PPC than LTC, in the long run LTC should be third no doubt.
