Bitcoin first. That decision should not be thought twice, especially with DCA which is ideal for long-term investment, buy it if you have the money. Then, you can start thinking about diversifying your portfolio.
Save another set of money for those altcoins that you want to buy, but I suggest going for Ethereum next.
Then, repeat. One more set for other coins that you got your eyes with and in this case SOL or DOT, right? The safest first before going to high-risk cryptocurrencies. That way you will have a fallback when the worst things come. Like what happened with Luna. Remember, no one is prepared for sudden dumps.
Good advice, we first need to go for the assets that are the safest, this in fact runs contrary to what most people do, which is to try to get as many high risk assets as they can with the idea that if they do this then they are going to obtain profits even faster, however the opposite approach is the correct one as people need to first go for the safer investment and then only once their position is as solid as possible they can think about increasing the risk they are taking by investing in altcoins.

The better choice is buy Bitcoin with DCA strategy, why should DCA other coins? ETH, SOL, and DOT are centralized coins, I don't see any reason why we should trust centralized party when it's about cryptocurrency. ..
A lot of people trade altcoins only for the sole purpose of increasing the amount of bitcoin for the hodl due to the profit received from trading. So such a strategy has a right to exist. Of the OP coins listed, in my opinion, DOT has the greatest potential for growth.
I get that increasing the amount of bitcoin you have could be a great idea, but at the same time if you are not holding bitcoin for that, then you are not going to be succeeding.

It means that even in that idea you need to have bitcoin most of the time. What you can do is, have full of your money in bitcoin, then buy some eth and sell it back again all to bitcoin, and do that quickly and trade it. Investing is another question and buying alts would be investment, that is how I understood it. So, why would you prefer to do that when you can just simply do something else? That is the way I think, bitcoin is the way to go and it will always stay at the top.

In general, nothing is stopping you now. Although the situation on the market is not easy, it is generally predictable. So, you can draw your own conclusions.

DCA Bitcoin, don't DCA with altcoins in this period because if Bitcoin falls more, altcoins will decrease more considerably.

You must to wait for bottom confirmation from Bitcoin. Solid confirmations from Bitcoin, then you can start to DCA with top altcoins. DCA too early will make your wallet emptied and you will no longer have budget to DCA more when altcoins fall more and give you cheaper price.

Each DCA round should be more than -30% to -40% price from your previous entry price.

is it worth taking such a step and investing in these currencies.
Definitely, it's worth investing more at a moment like this. However, you've to seek cryptos with high potential to survive and bounce back. Bitcoin readily comes to mind here. It's the surest of all cryptos to survive during bear season. I've witnessed it survive several falls, both mildly and severe falls. Bitcoin is a phoenix, literally a cat with more than nine lives. Also, Ethereum, BNB and Polkadot won't be bad ideas to have a look at.

If you can afford to buy bitcoin then I would say you invest in bitcoin. Invest in your bitcoin without thinking about the rest of the coins you mentioned Should be.Because Bitcoin is a powerful and reliable currency to invest in.
Why people do consider on buying alts is that they do have that impression that they could buy a whole coin which can't really be possible to be done in btc but to mind off that we could purchase by fractions or small amounts which it is really that sensible if you do stick into something which had been supported mainly by the community.

Assurance is what we need, I think. Gladly, Bitcoin has that quality. The idea of converting altcoins to Bitcoin isn't a sacrifice, yet it was a smart choice that most of us are neglected to see.

Invest the money that we can afford to lose, invest Bitcoin infractions, that supposed we do taking the opportunity while the market is in huge price correction. Perhaps, we can see demand for Bitcoin as people/investors know that this coin could never give them disappointment and regrets but just a profitable future.

Bitcoin would be the best pick, especially during this bearish season. It would be better to stick with it since we all know that it could recover and strike better again soon than risking with altcoins especially those potentials are still unknown. Better convert your altcoins to Bitcoin if you seek assurance. It's actually the best time to accumulate more BTC.

Am kind of surprised that you don't hold any bitcoin
To me, it is not surprising that there are plenty of investors that don't hold bitcoin. They've got the same thought on why they're not holding bitcoin and it's all about its price and they're looking at it as something expensive.

And as they believe that other coins would also be up just as bitcoin, they're extending their portfolios to different altcoins despite having no bitcoin included.

If you are not having any bitcoin and you are planning to buy and hold a coin then it's better you buy and hold bitcoin, that's the best coin which I will advise you to buy, because if you can hold then you will definitely make sure profit. Actually those coins you mentioned are not really bad but I will recommend you buy bitcoin. After buying bitcoin make sure you hold for long term and don't keep your bitcoin on wallet make sure you transfer it to non custodial wallet address and hold it their.
It's 100% advisable to buy and hold bitcoin, we're in the place where 100% the reason why it's made. Nevertheless, if OP decides, you've got everyone's tip of buying bitcoin.

It's up to you on which one you would DCA but it would be wise on sticking with established ones like btc but of you could bare the risk on other coins then it's up to you.

This is the thing we need to change that if we can afford to invest in bitcoin and why we have this opinion in our mind? The amount we are willing to put in altcoins can be diverted towards btc also but we think it's too expensive. So it's our personal decision but still if you can invest in btc only for long term and DCA is good way to accumulate more in long term without worrying about the prices.

Since prices are down, I am going to spend some money for shopping. Not a lot, just what I can spend.
Now the question is, should I buy BTC (currently I don't have any BTC) or should I do DCA for ETH, SOL or DOT?
Now the reason I am asking this question is I have some of ETH, SOL and DOT, and I still consider that my ETH and DOT average prices are little bit higher, so DCAing would be nice option. But then, given that the I am little concerned what might happen to SOL and DOT in this phase of the market. Anyway, thanks.
bitcoin is always a good choice mate, if i were you just set aside your capital and wait instead for the right time to buy bitcoin because as you said you already have some coins in your portfolio so probably that's enough and you should focus on bitcoin. And also stop seeking for an investment that you don't know if they can really guarantee a good return or not, infact DCA is not popular compared to those coins you've mentioned above so better to wait and buy bitcoin, don't waste your money and be smart when choosing to invest.

Investing in brand new stuff is a big risk at any moment, not just during bearish periods. However there are a ton of people who like to invest into new stuff because they think that they could make some difference and could earn some money since its a bull period, and that would be profitable move. I disagree, even during bull periods you shouldn't be investing into brand new things, maybe like things that have been around for longer than 6 months so that you could trust them. Bear is another whole story, you should probably stay away from all coins except like 5, because they are all looking risky and may not recover.

The problem is that spending or buying altcoins is good but the problem is that to know the one that has nice potential, for me now that cryptocurrency is in bearish i will like you to buy a coin that when it fall it remain and the value will not finish. So those coins is Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and BNB. Buying newly launched coin can end up on the way. So Bitcoin is the coin the value does not varnish after the falling of cryptocurrency.
If OP wanted to keep some of his assets, then that should be Bitcoin. Well, the rest he can spend them.
Honestly, investing in new projects at this bearish time is too risky, most of them just fail and ended up scams. I can't mention those projects but there are a lot of them, in fact, Luna has a terrible end that shocked the community.

I'm not going to say it was hard to determine which project is having the potential coz we know that already and that is those who are in the top altcoins in the CMC ranking.

DCA other coins. If you are going to be a longer-term holder then always DCA other coins, but yes make even BTC a part of those coins, if you are someone who likes to move in capital sometimes and move it out sometime then you can go with buying BTC first and then buy other coins, the reason being in any bullish scenario it's always BTC that races up first and only then you'll see rest of the coins following the footsteps of BTC, so if you time it beautifully then you can enjoy moves of both BTC as well as the alts. But yes timing it can be slightly difficult as well so if you are even a bit skeptical, just stop doing it.

You're asking on Bitcointalk, so it's obvious: buy Bitcoin. Store it in your own wallet, don't keep it on an exchange.

As Loyce said, buy as much Bitcoins as you can OP.
Since the price is down, so this is the golden opportunity or you can say is the SALE going on to buy Bitcoins.
Buy Bitcoins and wait for some freaking time, and I am sure you won’t regret on your this decision.
Moreover this is just a bearish season for the coin.
Very soon the coin will again pick up his pace and will grow like rocket.
Don’t waste your money on any altcoins. Yes those will give you profits, but that will be very low than what Bitcoins will give you.
Now it’s your turn to take the decision wisely and lead your financial journey Happily.
And not only that, investing in bitcoin is the safest path, while increasing his position in the altcoins he has bought may seem like a good idea, we know that during a bear market altcoins go down faster than bitcoin so it is more difficult to hold them as people are losing more money and they get worried about their remaining capital, so bitcoin is easier to hold and since he will buy it at a good price this would be even easier, so at least to me that seems like the optimal path.

Buy bitcoin and eth or if you are in doubt about choosing an altcoin, you can buy bitcoins and keep them. If you already have ETH, SOL and DOT I guess that should be enough to be your investment but you better add more bitcoins in your wallet so you can see bitcoin price increase. If you are worried about SOL and DOT, you can simply sell it and take your profit and leave the coin if the price rises higher than your buy price.
