In 1986 I had a Commodore Vic20 computer with a 56k phone modem. We used to dial up on bulletin boards(we were all local so it would not be long distance) and everyone said it was stupid and would not last, why would people type to each other on a computer when we could just talk on the phone. We were told by authorities we were tying up phone lines for important calls that need to be made and the government was sure illegal activities were going on. About 6 years later rumours came around that if we got a special computer and knew how to program, u could reach this world wide web that was forming. Immediately the accusations came about money laundering, drug dealing and inappropriate pictures so the government must regulate and monitor it with law enforcement. It even got to the point of the US wanting any website to be licensed by the FCC or it would not be allowed to be viewed in the US. A few years later the dial up internet took off and has developed into what we have today. It took about 15 years. I imagine Bitcoin will not take that long, but Bitcoin is still young and growing. If a person has not experienced an event like the internet coming to life, they may have trouble to see how Bitcoin is evolving right now.

before desktop computers every enthusiast was building their own OS of sorts id imagine as well, Microsoft could be viewed as govsoft, bitcoin will eventually become govcoin though you could imagine that

that the goverment is going to have to make much much bigger concessions, all of which result form the downfall of fiat, and adoption of the very public blockchain,

We are still in the infancy of Bitcoin. Even if you buy BTC now, you are still an early adopter. Who knows where it will be in 5-10 years but its very exciting to think of the possibilities. I think the comparison to the internet 15-20 years ago is very accurate.

its much bigger than the internet and will have a more profound effect, the internet is to bitcoin, like paper was to fiat,

I have noticed the same trend. It is quite interesting to see how humans evolve with their technology. I remember a time when broadband was sci-fi. But now, you can hardly ever find dial-up lol.

plenty of people still have it when they hit their download limit

I won't take credit for this but I read this on reddit earlier.
What do you think guys?

People have made lots of comparisons between bitcoin and the internet in the 1990s. I decided to make the comparison a bit less vague by comparing some specific landmarks. First, here's a list of websites founded before 1995. Looking at some common landmarks, I'd say that the closest parallel between bitcoin adoption and internet adoption is 2014 and 1994.

Common Landmarks in 2014 and 1994:

1.) The first big businesses adopt. Pizza Hut gets a website. Overstock/Dell begin accepting bitcoin.

2.) Big Porn enters the game. www.sex.com is established. xhamster and others begin accepting bitcoin.

3.) Politicians enter the game. www.whitehouse.gov is established. Senator Edward Kennedy gets a website.
Dozens of politicians begin accepting bitcoin for their campaigns.

4.) Coinmap goes from 1000 locations in 2013 to 5000 by mid-2014. There were about 627 websites in 1993      which climbed to about 2,738 by mid-1994, a roughly 5-fold increase.

1994 and 2014 are the beginnings of adoption by the major players in society: government, big business, and porn. I know that most of you guys prefer to look at charts and hear theories about why everything repeats every 32 weeks or 250 days, so I apologize in advance for bringing up these wishy-washy landmarks.

I would just like to add that early adoption has not yet ended for bitcoin. It is still walking its baby steps.

I think it will be another 3 to 5 years before we see mass adoption. It will scale like the Internet but at a faster rate
