Websites that allow free vanity address generation are not to be trusted if they don't use the split key technique.
It really doesn't matter if the site is 'free' or not. Unless the address is calculated locally (and uses local processing power) then it must use the split key technique, otherwise funds in your vanity address are all but certain to get stolen

I'm pretty sure that you can use it offline although if someone phishes your computer they probably can gain access to your private key.
The application itself should be good enough although you have to look out for viruses on your computer.

This application should be trusted enough, if I'm not mistaken you can run it offline as well as online, so no one will steal your info(Not the normal hacker, anyways).
That did look a bit confusing sorry, what i meant was basically like you answered is the application trusted enough and if i did use it will they have anyway to gain access to the wallet created and take funds i deposit? I can't believe it has taken me this long to look into it more and i will from now in danger of sounding a total newbie lol I will look into it more so i can do it properly offline etc. Cheers

its pretty resource intensive to generate anything higher than that you could just install vanity gen on your computer which is a simple program to use and that would tell you the same thing 5-6 is the sweet spot.
Yeah. Ok, just got a vanity address from that site, sent to my email and was pretty fast.
Although if you deposit bitcoins in there no one can guarantee the generator site won't steal your coins from you, so that's a concern.
