big hype into 2014 as everyone expects big things will happen this year--> nothing will happen, and price will stagnate, everyone's hopes dashed, mad rush to sell off by middle-to-late 2014.

I'd agree with this. I would argue right now bitcoin does not seem like a risky investment, the general consensus is that bitcoin is not going anywhere and will rise for sure. Fear and risk has to come in to play sometime sooner or later, the noobs will be shaken off and then we'll see significant gains when no one expects it.
Anyone unbearably offended by the current price of bitcoins is eminently welcome to send theirs to the address in my sig.

dafar, you got wrong info. 2014 is NOT supposed to be the YEAR. It's 2015 and beyond that will make bitcoin the dominant currency in the world.
