My guess: When were talking about a high budget Bitcoin movie that somewhat accurately portrays it's history, then my guess is that when Bitcoin becomes a normal household name in a way that a good number people aren't looking at it as a scam or an investment scheme(which is still it's current public perception). Bitcoin being used in a criminal manner will sell a lot more today knowing that the misconception of "bitcoin is only used by criminals" is still there.
Yeah, speaking of high-budget (or at least, not low-budget) movies 'Crypto' comes to my mind. I haven't watched it, so I don't know whether it's against some cryptos or against Bitcoin, but judging by the trailer it's exactly the kind of movie you've described: that is, the one enforcing the stereotype that crypto is used by criminals. A movie distributed by Lionsgate and having Kurt Russell in the main cast got terrible reviews and was only released in 164 theaters. Unfortunately, it's impossible to find the info about the budget, but the movie looks like a complete disaster, fortunately.

there already have been many high budget movies that mention bitcoin

there already have been many high budget tv shows that mention bitcoin

if people are looking for ways to promote brand bitcoin to get the name into peoples minds. its already happened.
if people only care about a pump and dump of getting people to buy just because they should buy.. sorry but your not thinking or caring about bitcoin.

people that only care for the pump are the ones looking for a bitcoin exit. sorry its true because all you care about is the fiat valuation because all you desire in the end is alot of fiat

true bitcoiners want more transaction utility. and know that more transaction utility will cause more usefulness, which will cause more REAL adoption of people that actually want and need bitcoin for BITCOIN purposes. not fiat purposes.

whenever i see people just screaming blue murder that bitcoin needs more adverts. all i see is that person being the one that is willing to sell and cause a price drop when the price reaches their goal target.
and the coins being sold being handed to multiple people who the want to sell at a target. in the end its just causing an increasing amount of people wanting to sell when they get emotional

bitcoins value should rise due to its function and utility not due to some tv advert
utility increase= strong sustainable value increase
advert/propoganda= temporary hype fake speculation non-sustainable value

the goal of people making films is usually to make a profit, maybe they think bitcoin-themed films aren't very profitable, because bitcoin is not very understood by many people, even in my environment only a few people understand about bitcoin.

People really don't need to fully understand bitcoin for film directors/companies to profit off them though. When talking about documentaries, sure probably. But movies? Nah. Just create a story on how a drug dealer uses bitcoin to sell his stuff; and add some CIA stuff and FBI pursuing him with guns and helicopters and stuff, and you're golden.
a serial like mr. robot that indirectly promotes bitcoin especially at the early season where bitcoin often mentioned , i think it could be a reference for the further bitcoin movie projects, i really like the way the director sam esmail send the messages about how cryptocurrency space could actually help our financial system , not to mention that he also demonstrates how bitcoin could be abused, that is just realistic.

i wish there a movie version of this mr.robot serial especially if they put blockchain technology as their main theme.

If they ever figure out who Satoshi is, THEN we'll get the high-budget Hollywood movie, complete with the thrilling story about how bitcoin was launched and how the developers worked in secret and fought to keep their identities private and what happened to them when they saw bitcoin's price rise but didn't dare touch the coins for fear of being outed.

Otherwise, there isn't really much of a plotline!
i agree it will be hard to make a high budget movie without the creator for the plotline
if bitcoin will have a movie someday i think it will be a fiction about future or time travel
if someone will make a movie about whales in bitcoin or deepweb and hacker that will not bring positive outcome

We need a movie that will discuss how the crypto works and how it was designed for the future purpose but ofcourse  people need to make a story that attract the people's interest. As long as there were no interest from the public producers wont take interest also.

I would personally like to see a movie trying to show how Bitcoin is created, what was the idea behind it and who is actually the person behind the alias Satoshi Nakamoto. I think there might be a very interesting story to tell, along with some good actors and some of the world's top directors the film could certainly contribute to the popularization of Bitcoin and portray it in a positive light.

But movies are mostly made for profit, there is actually very little art left in this industry. However, one day when Bitcoin is worth a lot more than it is today, I have no doubt that someone will make a high-budget movie.

I have seen several high budget documentaries, but a lot of low budget Bitcoin movies.

This is one of the latest low budget movies I have seen on https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3295330/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

There must surely be some early investor or whale or successful Bitcoin company that can sponsor a high budget Bitcoin movie? I know there are

high budget movies where Bitcoin is mentioned, but most of them puts Bitcoin in a criminal plot and it puts Bitcoin in a negative light. We need to

make a movie, where Bitcoin is the hero and where bitcoin is changing people's lives in a positive way.  Wink
I don't think there could be a movie on bitcoin exactly. There might be a movie on Satoshi Nakamoto or some early investor who made billions out of bitcoin. But as information about satoshi is limited there is no chance of a movie. Coming to documentaries I surely think in the next bull run this currency would come in the eyes of biggest informative documentaries maker. Moreover the problem is what will be the content of such a movie. 2 hour documentary is solely required to make people understand the concept of blockchain and bitcoin where would the other information and content would be shown?

Well, an Utopian movie in the future, where everyone is using bitcoin to pay for goods and services, will surely be beneficial to Bitcoin adoption.
I'm with stompix here: that would be propaganda. It'll probably be good for Bitcoin adoption, but that's not what movie makers care about. They want to make money, and unless it's a documentory about the history of Bitcoin, I don't think making Bitcoin the main subject is going to earn them money.

Horrible idea.  No thank you.

That's going to be a very boring movie. Seeing someone pay for his groceries?

I've seen Bitcoin/crypto mentioned in several movies and TV-series, and when it's appropriate to the plot that's a great thing. But there's no need to force it.

Why?

We need to make a movie, where Bitcoin is the hero and where bitcoin is changing people's lives in a positive way.

Oh..
So we need propaganda? The bear season is really taken its toll!

Again, why do we need a movie?
Apple is doing great with movies about it, never saw a positive movie about Exxon but those dividends  Cool

We're past the time when a movie would make a difference, the age of nascar doge cars is over. What we need is daily real-life usage not likes on youtube.

We might even see the Bitcoin Blockchain being used for a totally transparent voting system and also some Smart contracts being used. They

can even show people how future hardware wallets will work (Paying with a Bitcoin wallet on a wrist watch or even with your reading glasses.)

Also cars with built-in hardware wallets that automatically pays for parking with the latest self driving technology. There are endless possibilities

in a futuristic scenario. ( The plot can be Cyber criminals trying to Hack Bitcoin and failing )  Wink

I have some insights regarding this. First, being high budget means that the people here are those known for creating such movies, or is popular and influential. And popularity goes with politics. These well-known personalities maybe wants to avoid political problems with the government upon publishing such movie.

Another thing is that investors, are investing on something that they would profit. That's why they're called investors. And as we speak right now, there's not really much of a market of movie-goers that would want to watch something about Bitcoin, rather than those who know about it, and enthusiast, which composes of a small group in the society.

One thing to also note here is that creating such movie, it would be difficult to build the plot. If it would be portrayed as good, then better have an extraordinary, true to life happening that could be documented/re-enacted. If in case it's a documentary, there's not much people to be involved with, and the main founder of Bitcoin isn't even known!

That's why I think only enthusiasts on smaller budgets are doing such movies as of now. Lack of adoption, and therefore appreciation, mainly are the reasons why there's no such film made yet.

It is like giving a twist so the netizens will at least relate themselves to the story even though they don't actually understand the use of bitcoin. Then after that scene where the drug dealer is being pursued, its uses will also be featured, it is like showing the viewers the real function of it.

I think Bitcoin will be definitely fully involve in film industry in near future and it will really help to make big budget movies easily there is no doubt that there are many talented writers in film industry and their brilliant stories are still waiting to become a movie because the lack of producers so maybe in near we see a platform where movies will be made with Bitcoin budget.

Well, for the high budget movie one should be able to fund it and the funding will come from the big companies and the political leaders who are so keen on making bitcoins a mess and serving it to people .
I was really happy to hear about the news that bitcoins was gonna be used in a movie and all but it then ended up bad , it was all shown like bitcoins is the hub of illegal activities and normal money is safe , really ? Did someone care to check the fat checks in politicans pockets ?
I hope they dont have a movie about Bitcoins giving people false information.

criminal plot if it's in your view or the views of people who see it, usually in the film bitcoin is used as a tool for crime, from your view bitcoin looks criminal, just as if you see the film people hire a hitman to kill people by paying with fiat cash, but why don't you say that fiat currency doesn't look negative either

bitcoin is only an object tool of the film itself, but it's also rather difficult to make films about bitcoin because bitcoin is used only as a tool and can't be called a role, maybe if in the movie it would be cool titled satoshi nakamoto why he makes bitcoin and what is the purpose, I think that the film will be great and cool, a matter of a little or a lot of budget doesn't really matter, sometimes a small budget can also produce the best film
