Wouldn't it make more sense to simply sell the energy back to the electricity company (in areas where it's possible)?

I wonder what the profit difference is?

Mining is much more profitable than selling energy, in every situation I'm aware of.

I've got a thread about my solar/wind mining operation.  Tesla Powerwall 2 battery to be installed soon:

Honestly, everything I know came from talking with Novak the aerospace engineer. One of our future plans was to shift everything to renewables so we'd probably end up building some VAWTs and he was looking into it.

I have conceptual knowledge but no real-world recommendations of existing products.

A combination of the two should be pretty reliable. Solar is best during the day (for obvious reason) but wind power tends to pick up at night. For small use a vertical-axis turbine tends to be better than horizontal-axis, requires less wind just to get started and typically doesn't have to be as tall to capitalize on local air currents.

@Sidehack, do you have a recommendation on vertical axis turbine?  I am in NW Indiana where we have 5-6 m/s average wind speed.  I'm currently using about 15kW for mining and was starting to look at options for offsetting power bills.

Lol, yeah forget solars buddy Grin

P.S. Sun is everywhere, wind is not(at least not at the quantity to move the turbines).

Guys, i thought about it. And at this point its not worth it because most PV panels are 1)NOT cheap 2)Has very low coefficient of efficiency(15-20% at most) with straight sun beams....
The technology is improving and when we gonna have mass PV panels at low price and at least with coefficient of efficiency of 40% and above, then it will become worth it. And it will not only support your whole crypto farm, but your household as well Smiley

Forget solars. Just go with the wind turbines.

You can add solar for extra juice but I just wouldn't fully depend on solar panels alone..

Quick way to produce solar power is to use a grid-tie micro-inverter like this
https://bit.ly/2hkAAfc

Solar Panel -> Micro-Inverter -> AC socket

No batteries needed, no maintenance, no extra fee.

I use same one with 2x 260W panel.
I don't produce much but it's fun project.

Cool

Can we get a new thread going?

Anyone have any experience? Is it worth it?

Hi there I'm pretty sure this thread already has a bunch of the info you're looking. As well as off shoots to other threads with more info.

Good luck
