To follow up that 1.35 btc deposit to allow a cross ship was for cross shipping of the ethernet/controller board not an entire machine just the controller.

It's not only unacceptable but also completely unjustifiable.

Your now paying ransom on the product you bought from them to get anything out of it.

Let's see some support in return for all the support received from us purchasing boat loads of product.

IMHO the resale of equipment model is out the window. I wouldn't bank on any of that.

On the bright side maybe if I bail on mining and give up on this by May.  It will be a smart move.  Then sushi did me a favor.

Been thinking the same thing myself Sad

Tighter margins and the harder diff make it hard to earn but not impossible. Factor in 1/4 of the S1 cost in taxes for delivery and the likelihood the unit will arrive dead or with problems and there really is no money to be made nowadays.

I and a few guys on the pool I mine bought in on this group buy after being told the shipping value of the S1 would be $180 (same as the last 2 group buys we went in on). After asking UPS why the cost had increased from £34 they told me the value of the item was reported by the shipper (Bitmain) was $800, there was also $20 shipping and $5 insurance so the total value of the import duty was calculated on $825 making the duty to pay £117.84. I am assuming like me no one was told this by Sushi or Bitmain and only found out about the additional cost when their UPS driver tried to deliver.

In fiat the S1 cost is around £490, to add another £117 to the cost strips out the likelihood of getting a ROI Sad

The last unit arrived OK but had heat sink compound literally dripping from the anti static bag, a few hours of careful cleaning removed it all. I then fired the unit up to then find the fan was also dead so had to replace this with 2 x 120mm fans I had. There have been numerous problems with the software corrupting after changing pools resulting in having to restore the OS and mining software.

I will probably continue mining until the end of march then sell my miners on eBay and try and reduce some of my losses and put mining down as another life experience.

I also agree with what everyone has posted about the shipping information being rubbish. I read it that the S1's would ship on the 28th February not arrive on the 28th? Needless to say that no one was in to accept delivery as I had no idea it was arriving, more delays getting any ROI!

I guess the Sushi group buys are finished, more faulty/damaged units reported, import costs rising making the hardware even more expensive before it's even turned on to mine.

Fully expecting my S1 unit to be faulty after reading some of the recent posts on this thread and have no expectations of any issues getting resolved. At least I didn't go for the hosted option and sit there looking at screen showing my dead unit that I can't even physically touch.

To follow up that 1.35 btc deposit to allow a cross ship was for cross shipping of the ethernet/controller board  not an entire machine just the controller.  Once I really looked at this machine it had a loose cap a very misaligned part solder in and the dead  eth/con card.  No way I want parts just too much wrong with an inspection of it..  I can buy a machine for 1.37 btc from bitmain. I trusted sushi-review to send me working gear and paid up front. I did not get 4 working units.   Really sad about it.

My hope for profit will be as follows  the secondary person that I have done more then 10 btc in purchases from sends me a machine this monday which arrives by weds.  This takes me back to 4 machines.  total cost of 5.8 btc  plus 60 usd for shipping back and forth .  loss of 5 days hash at 180 btc is .13 btc  so I will need to sell a machine on ebay asap  for 1100.

I wanted to sell them on ebay in 30 or 40 days   .  Only other possible upside is I get a replacement by weds and on thur btc goes into a long up swing.  allowing for a huge jump in profit.

It's just finishing it's extensive burn in test.  Roll Eyes Should be good about the time difficulty rises again.

Have you heard about the 1PH antfarm Shocked

Burning the candle from both ends is fine as long as one doesn't find themselves being the candle.

Have heard of other people having trouble getting "missing or broken" parts.

That's unacceptable IMHO. They should have at least offered to express the board. This community has purchased these faster than toasters from Walmart and I believe the margins are set from a measured amount of ROI and not the cost of production. Sounds like hardware makers are getting a little too smug and need to be reminded that when the slim times come these events are not forgotten.

That is actually exactly the issue. The only incentive to sell miners is to offset risk.

I won't be buying anymore. No one can afford to take the risk of what happened to this poor gentleman without rock solid support. There's no meat left on the bone to cover for this sort of unfortunate situation without the manufacturer willing to make up for events which hopefully are few and far between. You have a ticking time bomb running praying it doesn't go off before any hope of ROI.

Me neither...and speaking of the devil, I still have no indication that mine was already shipped, let alone a tracking number.  I ordered mine last Feb. 25th at the regular price then.

I was offered rma from bitmain tech.

cost me 30 usd to ship it .  no cross shipping with out a 1.35 btc deposit.  not that interested in sending more btc right now.

I did a lot of business with some other sellers on site  I was offered rma by them I spent  30 usd to ship it and my gear should ship out on monday.  with good luck I will get my gear on weds.. With my luck (not good) fri.

thus losing  5 days hash and 50 or 60 in shipping.  so my bargain 1.45 btc machine will cost 1.7 or 1.8 btc  by the time I get it working.

Frankly not acceptable but that is the world of BTC..

I think I am done with the whole game and will no longer buy anything. I will mine until May and sell off everything.  Just not worth it any more.

Margins are too tight. One piece of doa gear  will cost too much.  even if you get a full coupon  of .4 btc to make up for the loss you still need to

buy more gear. I was doing sticks to avoid this. first better gear and 3 good one bad.

    RMA policy is not good.

But they only light up when an Ethernet cable is actually attached and if there's any activity, no?  If this image was taken after the fact, then my bad.

Ordered on the 20th...put in an order with Amazon shortly after for a power supply (a modular Seasonic 550W) to run it.  Received notification yesterday afternoon that the power supply had arrived...was pleasantly surprised to find the miner waiting for me as well.  Cool It's hashing away.

If I had to nitpick, would it be too much trouble to get shipping information in a timely manner?  I never received a tracking number or any indication that the miner had shipped.

I have the same beef.  Why is it so hard for them to convey a simple tracking number right after shipment?  That's what emails or PMs are for, aren't they?  Not conveying tracking numbers to recipients in a timely manner defeats its purpose.  I just don't get it!  I lost 3 days of hashing with the last S1 I ordered due to this inefficiency.

I have been waiting 10 days for my miner information to be put in. At this point idk how to handle this. And it would be unprofitable or unethical for me to try and resell this hosted miner to someone else. If I for some reason cannot communicate with them, there is no reason to believe the next person would have better luck. It really sounds like this group is set up for maximum possible profit (reselling used parts as new and accidentally not have customer support)

I Figure this to be a .2 btc loss. maybe more. Depends on my new machine replacement time.

did you sign up for ups tracking. IT will give you the tracking for it based on your address. Since they send out so many they dont give you individual tracking numbers
