I don't see why not, the hub should not be drawing anything from the usb port. I'm not sure why anyone would want to plug anything into a raspberry pi though. I got one a year ago and from my experience they are very unstable. I would recommend a beaglebone black if you are looking for a stable portable controller.

Would it matter? They're all working fine. It's using the motherboard header which has both voltages, I would wager it's likely only using the 5v line as most of those on PSU's are 25 amps and 49 AM's pull about 24-25 amps. Could also be using the 12v stepped down to help share load. Or the 3.3 and the 12 combined and then split 3 ways.
