Elianite has more of a history/story PDF about them but I don't have that link.

You will find it at www.coinfirm.org

Uhm, I'm quite new  to this, so, I'm asking, what do you guys do with these? What are they useful for? Can you get the coins out of them?

There's a ton of background information about these coins available on this forum, on the web, or at Melbustus' site (shared above) -> http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius. Elianite has more of a history/story PDF about them but I don't have that link.

The quick answer to your question is that they're sought after because they are the first physical representation of a bitcoin, most come with a bitcoin (or multiple or fraction of) "embedded" on the coin via the hologram sticker on the one side. They've become collectible because they were the first physical bitcoin and the creator no longer makes them due to some issues the Federal government took with him minting money (it's debatable but the Fed tends to win these sort of debates.)

I'm rather new to the the forum as well, welcome!

I like this coin, but something is just a bit more appealing about the full silver one. I have seen the graded ones of these coins, and they look stunning! So I'll keep my options open.

Best to have both. Only 483 of these gold / silver ones.

i know mike said he only had 700 of these made. But did you get confirmation from Mike that he only sold 483?

That 483 number comes from my analysis at http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius . I parsed the blockchain against Mike's publicly-released list of Casascius addresses to identify the 1BTC silver coins. From his blog post saying that of the total 2000 silver 1btc coins the "remaining" 700 were gold-trim, I assumed the first 1300 to be funded were all-silver. I found that there were only 483 remaining addresses in that pool that were funded with 1BTC.

I'm hoping to get direct confirmation from Mike.

Edit: This result makes sense since the gold-trim coins were still for sale the day Mike shutdown (I know, since I happened to place an order for some just a few hours before he shutdown). So it seems 217 remained unsold as of his shutdown date.

I offer 1.9

Sorry, that is too low of an offer. I have a little room to negotiate. PM me if you're really interested.
