Hate hate hate to see this happen. 1+ to implementing some kind of security to stop this. With any kind of website every account you sign up with will register an IP address. Perhaps the mods could report it to the authorities? Still a long shot with Bitcoin being anonymous. A way to stop this could be as simple as making new accounts wait 10 days to PM. When someone posts a [WTS], most of the time within 10 days it is sold, preventing scammers from creating phony accounts.
Thanks,

Maybe it was bitpop  himself ? Seems sketchy to me , look at it from all angles.

No because i would sign it with pgp

I've just registered a few names similar to mine so this wont happen again
Anyone have more suggestions for similar names?

Thanks, but therer has to be some solution to that.

It cannot happen forever.

Zero member should not pm for at least 10 days.

The coins haven't moved yet, so that's good.

Have you sent a threatening PM to the scammer yet asking them to return your coins?

It's a long shot, but I'm sure they are monitoring this thread, and considering they just stole over $4000 they may return them if they think they are close to getting caught.

I have pm ed theymos, and also pm ed the scammer for returning the amount.

Thanks guys for your help.

I agree with this. This should be raised to the moderators. All new accounts should not be able to send private PM's for X number of days. Should be able to be done very quickly.

In the meantime, monitor the coins. If it gets moved to coinbase or some registered account that you can track, you might have some hope.

I'm sorry he stole from me too now that he took what you could have paid me
Please verify pgp keys, even though I'm escrow, I'll still conduct a proper escrow for us

Run a Bitcoin node.
Sorry to hear you got scammed tzortz, that really sucks.

I think the forum should implement some changes to new membership names to combat this type of fraud.
Scammers just substitute a zero for an O, or add a tiny character like ` on the end of a known name.

I pm'ed them. And waiting now.

Thanks for your advices, I appreciate it.

Sorry for your lost

Interesting. Noticed this has been happening. There is someone or a few people that stalk for sale items and try to impersonate the sellers. They get lucky sometimes. They almost scammed one of my buyers on a previous sale but he caught the difference.

Be sure to leave negative feedback and the OP of this post should leave the account negative feedback for impersonating

Example. https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/bitcoinpapi-324296 tried to impersonate me before

Because I am so mad now.

If I were you, I would take a deep breath and lower your bounty so you recover some BTC and don't lose more if the scammer is caught.

Perhaps you can check with the forum mods to see if they can give you information about the scammers ip address, and see if it matches any other forum users ip address? I'm sure it is logged by the forum.

Bounty 10BTC for anyone that will find him.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.7536414

Why would you magnify your loss? I'm sure people would try to help you track down the scammer for ~4 BTC, so why would you want to offer 10 BTC and lose another 1.8 BTC if the scammer is caught?

I don't get it.
