reCaptcha is the most expensive to buy solves for which is the reason so many sites chose to use it. At the moment the bots are winning the technology race against the anti-bot software developers. The new version of reCaptcha I mentioned above is an interesting development but it remains to be seen how well it will work.

Removing the incentives to use bots is the only thing that works against them at the moment.

I have suggested this some time ago but it did't had much impact here, mostly complains, but still..

That's because captcha doesn't stop bots but it does inconvenience real users. Faucets use them as it imposes a cost that makes it less profitable to bot. For spambots here I don't think ~$0.001 per post would deter them.

Yeah, I know but there should be another solution, there are some good alternatives to reCaptcha as well. Idk what theymos is planing for the new forum software but there should be some kind of a solution to this problem. Reporting the single accounts is just, as we say, " a small drop into the ocean". There should be a general solution with the minimum impact to the regular users, I know it's difficult...

Google is working on that with reCAPTCHA v3. It takes away the challenge part and just works on assigning a score to actions and then using that score to determine if it is a bot or not. I'm not totally convinced it will be successful as I imagine the bot writers will just work out action the site administrator has assigned as good and get the bot to do them. But it does seem at least the direction of travel is away from direct challenge captchas which don't stop bots anyway.
Why do I find it heard to translate your tech explaining posts? May be you are too technical to go over my head  Tongue
By the way, I like reading your posts especially those explains technology.   Smiley

If we calculate all the time spent by people filling the captcha all over the world, it is a useless waste of a  lot of precious time. I would also want less of it but this is not possible as webmasters and admins have to protect their web properties from spammers. May be we can have some better alternative in future.

When I think of things I want less of in my online life, Captcha's is pretty high up there!  It would annoy the shit out of me to have to do it for every post.   Sad

Unfortunately everyone has to pay the price for the acts of spammers and bots.

I actually have no idea how the captcha tech works. Like in my OP I said, I would not personally like solving captcha before making a post but I will accept this barrier if it makes the spambots jobs harder but looks like it's not that hard once you have a script.

Quite simple.Every captcha has an ID,the bot takes the ID of the captcha you get when you login (automatically detects it I guess) and upload it to 2captcha server (just an example of service).Next, those services also have an earning program (People solve captchas for money $0.4-$0.8 per 1000 I guess? Don't ask me why they do that for pennies -rip these poor souls) so in short, your captcha is solved by someone else using the captcha ID)

So how do the faucets make money. The advertising on their sites can't be worth anything.

It's worth the fractions of a penny they pay out.

The one I represent is a gambling site and the faucet attracts new users. So we are just paying people for the opportunity to market the gambling at them.

Thanks for posting that, I wondered how the faucets and such sites made money from captchas.

The faucet site isn't making money from the captcha the captcha solving site is. From the faucet sites point of view captcha doesn't stop bots but it increases their running costs.

The ID is actually just the domain name of the site. When a captcha is solved they issue a token that is valid on that site for 2 minutes and then that can be passed out to a bot that is waiting for one to use.
Google could easily make some simple changes to the way reCapture works to make it far more difficult for bots. There is a remote IP field in the token but Google doesn't bother to check it.

As for the poor souls who do it, in some third world countries earning 25 to 50 cents an hour solving puzzles is an attractive alternative to being an agricultural labourer.

There is alot of services that provide solving the captchas (paid ofcourse but still,if an ICO want they can easily pay for it,doesn't cost much money)
I've heard of this, but I never understood how that works.  A captcha pops up on my screen when I go to log into bitcointalk--how the hell can someone else solve it?  How does someone solve captchas for money?  I'm probably being dense and missing something obvious.

So my solution would probably increase the delay time post for Jr. and members. for now Jr member only take under 1 minute. or perhaps make it 15 minutes it will definitely reduce the useless post.
...
Unfortunately you won't solve this situation with this. Spammers would just register some more accounts, so they don't need to wait for the 1 or 15 minutes period if they want to spam/bump/etc....

I don't think this is a good idea because it'll inconvenience every single user who posts here, not just the shitposters and bots.  Second, I don't think it'll do any good whatsoever toward suppressing....whatever.  People here are dedicated to posting shit and won't let a silly little captcha stand in their way.
That's the whole idea of it, if they really want to post and if they think the post that they want to share is something that can help others in the topic of discussion, just like what you said no silly little captcha will stop them for posting, but for a bot to solve a captcha for every post? If that idea will not stop them from posting at least it will slow them down until they are identified as a bot then ban.

Pretty much this, when you have people in desperate situations in ravaged countries, hardly a captcha will stop any of them. Also I feel like my dealing with captcha's is at an ATH, and if we went any higher I would have to whip out the "its too damn high" meme Cheesy.

I think some people have problem used captcha its like the answer is always wrong even when its the right answer . . and its terrible for normal user.
