I don’t think we even need to worry about discouraging or policing this activity. Anyone stupid enough to spend money buying merit deserves to be parted from their crypto and anyone selling it will probably be wasting their time for pennies per hour. It’s what I like to call self regulated by stupidity. I’d rather these people were wasting their time peddling merit as opposed to sending unsolicited messages about an upcoming ICO…

As a result of this whole story - the desire to sell merits, was the acquisition of negative marks for everyone who participated in this deception.
After learning about this topic, @cricketkhampion deleted himself from the Telegram group, but he waited a few days and still decided to sell his merits.

Merits were sold to alternative accounts, which, after verification, were tagged as cheaters.

I will not argue whether he sold the merit or simply donated, transferred, it does not matter. The point is that there are no such coincidences.
Also, the first warhawk200 account to which he sold the merits was banned.
We know @cricketkhampion himself bought the merits from the merit seller scammer. After buying @cricketkhampion's merits, he also decided to cash in on the sale, but in addition, earned himself a red tag.
It is true that I sold my merit I didn't know that merit selling is a crime. I am little earner please for give me next time I will not buy or sell merit  Embarrassed

In my humble suggestion, I did say that there's so much of importance attached to merits already, why don't theymos and his team outrightly ban the sell of merit on this forum.?
Theymos actually didn't permit to sell merits. One of the forum global moderators already answers it.

Since merit sale for merit, sources is against forum rules. This means the admin discourages selling overall merits. Even theymos announce banning merit sales wouldn't help to prevent it. Merit sale dealing off-forum. Very rarely users are creating merit sales on the forum due to fear of a red tag. It's not much different announce by admin or global moderator. Is anyone following what the global moderator said? The abuser will always break rules, that's why they are called abusers.

Well, I understand what you mean, and like it's commonly said that in every family, there's always a judas
Initially, I didn't know that merit sales on this forum is already banned by theymos, that's a good move by the way, but like I said above, there will always be a judas amongst the saints, and this is why crimes will never cease to exist in this forum, crypto currencies and even in the outside world, all we have to keep doing is to make sure that evil does not prevail over good, outside and in this forum for as long as it continues to exist.

Although Buying/selling bitcointalk accounts was widespread before Merit system, I do not remember that there were cases that successfully sold merit too
many Merits and therefore the black market for them is small and not enough to make changes.

Everything is also simple here, if 10 merits are bought for the "member" rank, then, of course, you will not see more merit purchases, since for this there are sales of ready-made accounts.
Look at some accounts today that participate in token-paid subscription companies, there are a lot of awakened, that is, sold accounts. Since we already know their rules, you cannot change passwords after purchase.  Grin Grin Grin

There is a rule that is not to change the password after buying an account. I'm complying so this account isn't locked.

In general, I do not know the benefit of it, as ranking-up to fullmember, hero and above required too many merit, which are impossible to collect by buying them, and the risk is great + joining campaigns does not only require merits.

It may be understandable to anyone who wants bounty campaigns and others that require a member's rank or 10 merits.

Even scamming won't get you banned for various reasons. Banning users for Merit sales will be very difficult to enforce.
Besides:
the forum's mission to be as free as possible.

Scammers can buy merit from other users in other to grow their account
Many scammers are smart enough to earn Merit. You shouldn't trust someone because they've earned Merit.

Selling Merit isn't really against the rules, unless the seller is a Merit source.
It's not against the rules, but there is whole new business created around abusing and selling merits in telegram, fiverr, playerup and similar publicly available websites, and that is not exactly what we could call a black markets.
I remember few years ago someone reported trade involving merits and sexual favors, now that is a dirty market  Shocked

Allowing the sell of merit will only in one way or the other help breed criminals and scammers on this forum which isn't ideal for the reputation of this platform out there.
Scammers can buy merit from other users in other to grow their account, and later in the future, they are likely to use that account to scam other members or cheat in bounties in a quest to get the money they spent on buying merit back.

If am asked, I did say that merit should be earned 100 percent, no one should be allowed to buy or sell merit.

Are you seeing a new market for merits?  I ask that because I've heard of merits being sold on telegram for quite a while now--but I don't visit any of those sites you mentioned, so I wouldn't be up-to-date on any boom in the merit sales market if there was one.

And if that's the case--that there's currently a lot of merit being sold--I wonder why that is.  Are there currently a lot more signature campaigns than there have been in the past couple of years or so?  I think I've asked that recently, and I don't think there are.  Bounties, maybe, but not sig campaigns.

I remember few years ago someone reported trade involving merits and sexual favors, now that is a dirty market  Shocked
Ah, I remember that as well, but I'm pretty sure it was a joke.

This is the stupidest way that you can offer someone a merit, offering them in the Telegram group full of people that are from the forum and knows that it's forbidden to sell or do any kind of monetary favor to get merits. Good thing that this guy got done in by you good people.
Yeah well, people who sell accounts or merits have proven that they aren't always the brightest bulbs in the box.  Some of them kept creating account sales threads right on the forum after it was common knowledge that they'd get their accounts tagged by DT members.

I don't visit those places, so I haven't seen it. Any idea how big the "market" for Merit sales is?

It can't be that big. The higher ranked accounts won't buy merits because they can't risk their accounts. Consider a high ranked merited by people like Qunenin. That will be the suiside for that account.
I think usually the bounter hunters would buy to become Jr. Member or Member but then again merits are rare and the sellers will soon be exhausted . Also how much would they sell a single merit for ?  Maybe for dust only.

Thanks all. I've got the answer to something that made me wonder about this case.

input and investigation of all of them really helped me to know more.

The current status quo seems OK. If you have to pay $20 per merit plus a risk of getting red trust, then that's a situation that doesn't concern me at all. I'm not going to lose sleep over people going to ridiculous lengths to buy merit, since only a small number of people will be willing and able to do that.

As long as merit sales are a black market, I'm happy, since that makes it far more difficult and expensive to buy merit. If that's the case, then the small volume of black-market merit trades don't themselves bother me much, and I think that it does more harm than good to get too witch-hunty about it.
But what's the fun in that Cheesy
10 merit from Qunenin negative trust
Qunenin only merited shitposts, so it's likely he sold Merit. I can't find plagiarism in those posts.

Now the fun part: It looks like warhawk200 bought 2 Merit from cricketkhampion for a plagiarized post. I've reported it already Cheesy

This is most likely one large farm that Nutildah discovered earlier. Transfer of merit in the amount of 10, for useless posts, can be said to be the face of this farm.
Probably it is worth checking all accounts, and mark them in the same way as Nutildah did earlier. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.57652170

I tried to see the MERIT history of cricketkhampion
10 merit from Qunenin negative trust
1 merit from  fortune1002 negative trust
If you develop more about: @cricketkhampion you will get more Alts those linked give (Merit) to their fellow alt accounts, maybe they cheated in the same campaign too.

I give one example, the telegram used by: @cricketkhampion, also used by: @Ladydanareturn.
