What was the subject of the PM? I would be interested to read the text of the Message if the sender or one of the receivers were to post it or send it to me.

Edit to add: I received a copy of the message sent and I agree the message in question is very similar to an advertising message and is reasonably described as such. I hope the OP can learn from this and will resume participating in the forum after the ban is over. I don’t have data regarding ban lengths for PM spam but the ban length does seem somewhat harsh assuming this is a first time offense. I don’t think the OP would possibly personally profit from the PM, which is something that factors into this opinion.

Another Rule you should follow.
I see you're posting outside of Meta. You shouldn't pm anyone or post outside meta if one of your accounts is banned.
25. Ban evasion (using or creating accounts while one of your accounts is banned) is not allowed.
Normally I wouldn't bother with this but if we are going to come here and shit pile on a guy - for really doing something he felt was in line with his/the original experience on this forum. Let's at least read the thread. If you had bothered to do that instead of investigating first, you might have noticed they had been made aware of this and would cease.

P.S. I've also been informed that I'm not supposed to 'talk' outside of this ban appeal topic (if that's what it is classified as) so aside from my other two posts made using this mobile account - I shall conform to the rules.

This forum is a community like any other, it's a simple fact about any group or organisation that operates in the public. Times change and so does what can be seen as acceptable. There are rules BitcoinFX is aware of them now. It's a shitty way to learn, when you were acting without malice and inline with what you thought was acceptable. It is howerver the responsibility of anyone to be sure they are aware of the rules anywhere they frequent.

I did laugh at the part about not having been told to read the rules after they had been created. Makes me think of a terms of service agreement when they update it. Any service generally gets you at login time or something similar forcing you to acknowledge you have read the rules/guidelines. I never thought of it before as they were established long before I got here, but wouldn't it have made sense back then to have mass PM'd the forums user base.

I knew I wasn't special when I checked the value of the free coins: $0.0notmuch. I was surprised though, to see a veteran user break forum rules like that.

I would argue all of us that did receive the PM were special in some way. There were 100, had BitcoinFX wanted to they could have sent out 100's of PM's or used fake accounts, we've seen it all here.

Now I'm not advocating for no punishment, but how many times in the past has BitcoinFX earned a ban or broken the rules? Spamming and trolling generally gets what a 7-14 day ban for first time offenders and then escalates upward if I'm not mistaken. Couldn't that have been the result here, all PM's scrubbed if necessary (though I would leave that up to individuals to delete), a warning/smaller ban and then call it a day.

Bitcoin = Financial freedom
You sent over 100 PMs with the same format: clear unsolicited bulk PMs. 4 people reported it, making it unwanted & unsolicited bulk PMs = spam. Most others would've been banned much longer.

My bad. However, ...

Surely by definition, all PM's are unsolicited.

The definition of 'bulk' is multiple recipients of the same message at once and on mass, which is not what I did either.

Still, your forum, your rules.
But few guys you send message considered it as spam so they reported it which is the reason why you banned for 30 days.Sending bulk PMs are not problem until people don't think it is spam.

Sorry bitcointalk.org, I strongly object to limitations being placed on ones free speech or in ones ability to freely start a dialogue with others.
No 'bulk' PM's were sent, only individual personal and private messages, including unique keys. Indefinite days
Bulk PMs aren't the only thing that's not allowed:
29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.
There are thousands of shitcoins, now imagine others would send PMs to users with "personal" codes and worthless giveaways too. The rules are there to prevent that.

What? Is he mass PM'ing those free GapCoins? I thought I was special  Tongue

I think you got special treatment alreasy as an old user, because the PM was months ago. So maybe reports have been piling up, until a Mod thought it's enough.

The value of Gapcoin is not my concern, it's a Math alt. coin (based on BTC) which does useful PoW (searching for prime gaps of actual Merit) - I'm much more interested in it for that reason alone.

Bitcoin once had no value and some might say we are all only still here because of early adopters such as myself. *Shrugs*

Your points are taken on board though. Like I said, I haven't really needed to pay much attention to the new forum 'rules' before now.

Also, I don't remember being required to read them, after you wrote them ...

This looks like a wise advice to avoid the same in future. Wink

Oh, yes indeed.

Perhaps I will self in force a 60 day or lifetime ban upon myself, just for the lulz.

IMHO, Whatever he had done isn't a ban offense.
This guy is a real asset of the forum. These assets must have some privileges than others.
Although he said he is not different than others, but the truth is he is different. Now, numerous shit-sig posters will advice him. They don't see the other things going around.

I confirm BitcoinFX, didn't sent any risky PM or anything about scamming funds.

He was rather giving all of us a gift of pie of some Gapcoins.

But still, as per the rule it is not a right thing to send mass PMs, many other trusted members like Hhampuz are also banned here for the same offence but he had to face a 7 days ban if i remember right.

Maybe you should create an Airdrop thread instead of sending PM's... just sayin.

This looks like a wise advice to avoid the same in future. Wink

Though I don't think you deserve a ban assuming you really didn't mass email people, if you deserve the ban or not hugely depends on how much messages you've sent probably? (I'm one of the people you've pmed by the way, thanks)

I guess 30 days ain't that bad, but that's definitely annoying if you post quite frequently.

Indeed. Sadly, no more 'airdrops', I think I'll keep it.

Oh, this is over the Gapcoin thing?

Just know it wasn't me who reported you. I was grateful that an oldtimer like yourself wanted to share something with me about a coin they found interesting.

I could never download the whole blockchain, it was moving way too slow, but I do appreciate the offer for... what was it? 314 free Gapcoins?

In any case, I of course support your unbanning.

If the decision won't be reversed, just keep in mind that 30 days is a relatively short period compared to the timeframe of how long you'be been here.

I appreciate your insights into the Satoshi-era forum, your comments in the BSV Scam thread, and your unique brand of humor. Hope you'll remember to come back and aren't too offput by this minor ordeal.

Most probably ...

Thanks nutildah for your support!

TBH it's not easy being BitcoinFX, lots of good folks I had known have either disappeared, gone awol or died.

Still life moves on, as does the timechain.

My "unique brand of humor." ...

P.S. still looking for special gaps in times continuum, if anyone might like to help? You don't even need an ASIC, yet.

Wow, UID=30 banned for 30 days  Tongue

If you are wrongly banned, then some MODs can see into this and can help. But, just because you were banned for a few days, you don't have to say shit about the forum. Just because you were here since 2010, doesn't make you any different than the others.

Yeah, if you are not interested with the changes, you are welcome to move on.

1. I do not think I'm 'different' or special.

2. I do have a lot to do and to say, in fact probably even more than before ...
