Heh, this triggered a memory I almost completely forgot.

Back in 2011 or early 2012, back when GLBSE was still existing, some of us pitched in and bought stakes in a race horse. Made two runs, then was "liquidated."

ETA: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/glbse-interest-in-a-thoroughbred-racehorse-46929 Only one actual race, I guess.

probably possible but you're aiming too high, a lower profile club would do good too Smiley

hope we could rename it to Bitcoin Cheesy
I think in league 1 or league 2 some team can take this chance but its also still not sure

I love to see Bitcoin on Manchester united jersey ..

maybe someday  Grin
but who is going to do this for bitcoin its a big question

btc community! it's possible even today(i'm talking about btc advertisment on jerseys). Ok, let's say we pick Leicester City(they deffinetly are going to compete in PL next season), MU is very expensive at the moment.
but Leicester City is also not going to do this free and they demand for some good money which no bitcoiner can afford to give right now

Ok now i see. So we got to wait a while. I hope this might happen really really soon.

I too think we'd struggle to raise enough. It's all the ongoing costs of owning the club too. I love the idea, and maybe it will happen one day. Buy Leeds United, they're always for sale!

What do you guys think? Is it possible for our community to buy first sport-club for BTC? So we can promote BTC in sports. As I'm football(soccer) fan, I'm proposing to buy club somewhere from UK(Championship or League 1).

Yeah, is a very good idea. Is our duty to promote sport!
Good but currently impossible Smiley In a year or two I believe some bitcoin millionaire will be able to buy it.

You want to crowdfund the purchase of a football team with Bitcoin?
Brave proposition lol. I think at this state of Bitcoin Crowdfunding we won't be able to gather enough money. There are few people who are willing to donate to somewhere.
Also, Bitcoin nerds and sports are not a friendly pair I think Cheesy

Invest enough in Bitcoin now and you might be able to in the future. As for crowdfunding I something like this I can't imagine you'd get must interest.

I think this would be  a brilliant idea but also agree that currently it's not really realistic to expect to raise anything near the millions you would need for the championship from bitcoin donations. Even a conference team would require an investment of at least a million to make the real changes needed to get out of that league and gain some decent success. Maybe when we get to $30,000 a bitcoin  Wink

FWIW though I think what the Doge dudes did with the Jamaican Bobsleigh team was genius, a global advertising opportunity just for $40,000, thats the type of thing Bitcoiners should be looking at.

If you take it a little bit lower, to the conference, it might be possible.

But the Ebbsfleet United/MyFootballClub project didn't exactly end in success.
yes need to start from very low is better because direct entry in club somewhere from UK(Championship or League 1) is not success
