Nice game. I have a suggestion to make. The prediction should be based on soccer. It can cut across a number of leagues. Each correct predictions should give anyone that got it right 3 points. Incorrect predictions shouldn't reduce the points instead, It should leave it as it is. You can make the duration of game till the end of the season. The prizes might be increased before then.

Edit: didn't know you've collated suggestions and reached a decision. Would've really liked soccer as NBA isn't really my thing. But I'll participate since I meet all requirements. Who knows?

There is a little chance that this contest will run the whole NBA season given the little prize pool. Probably 3 to 4 months. This is just for fun anyways and it will be free.

Probably there will be daily matches I can post, especially top teams playing against each other is a must. If in case I will be out for some reasons then I will try to ask someone to provide the matches. It won't be that hard imo.



I did see some contests in our local section that are open to anyone. NBA is leading the poll, and our locals loves basketball a lot. If soccer leads the poll, I don't think it is a good idea in our local section. I will contemplate on this. Probably, less spams because our local section isn't that active.


If ever this contest happens to my local section then you can simply put the thread in your watchlist. I will be speaking English there mate.      

I vote for first option soccer because rather than other options i think my knowledge mostly for soccer games and besides that i'm sure most of people will interested to joining if soccer will be the winner of this vote because as many people says this sport is the most popular sport in the world but the current results showing NBA as the most voted

I have voted for soccer which is my favorite sport. I do see some people are suggesting for narrow downing this contest by moving it into their local sub. I am not sure there will be any problem to be having both like simultaneous contests which will be running on here as well as on sub board too.

Like some other people, I am not comfort to play for your own money. If you manage to get some sponsorship then that would be good and also the prize pool may get extended up to some big amounts too. I like to suggest you to go for hunting for sponsors so that you may get more players and the winners too will get big prizes.

Great idea. Maybe you should do this in our local? that can help bring back the activity there. You can make it open for anyone to participate just like the other running prediction contests in our local. If you need assistance I am willing to help.

Basketball is my favourite sport so I voted for it to become my advantage as well.

So more like the winner of the game are the participant who has the highest point.
If you will based it in the entire season of the NBA, this will take time but it would be exciting if the price poll will increase.

And by the way, how many games you will give as choices on a daily basis? mind you that you have to be active all the time also as almost everyday there's an NBA game and we don't want this competition to just stop in the middle when you loss interest, hopefully this will not happen, was just citing a possible scenario.

Plus without deductions on losing predictions, it allow people with more activity the higher chance of winning. I prefer quality over quantity. Matches are held daily and some good predictors may miss some of these matches.



Yes this is free for everyone. The small pool is from my own pocket but I will consider accepting willing sponsors (there will be an escrow). This is purely just for fun. I bet and I wanted to test myself too. I will be joining in this contest too. But I will make sure all matches are at 50/50 (+/- is possible to make matches looked more competitive). I planned for a games like this one or two years ago supposedly on Facebook but failed to materialized. So i'll be doing it here.

Why negative points? I guess this is not a way you may conduct a contest. It seems participating in this contest is free of cost? It means you are going to spend 0.02BTC from your own earning? What is the goal of this tournament?

You may have anything as a goal of your contest like these; all these may require your own funds.
1. A contest for spreading awareness of bitcoin payments to rest of people from bitcoiners. (Then this is not an ideal place to conduct a contest as it is a bitcoin community and everyone here already aware of what is bitcoins and its advantages).
2. A contest for introducing a new sport to this community.
3. A contest for making your own gambling business famous.

When a goal is just for fun, it is not an usual practice to spend your own money. You must set an entry fee and there should not be any negative points. There could be a winner for each and every match.

Superbru could have been great for this. But at this moment NBA and basketball are not included in their site. Hoping they will add NBA (league is leading in the pool) soon.

So I guess the best option now is an earlier cut off which could be hours before a match begins.

Actually hilarious already do this kind of point system for soccer match. But the difference is he required sign up fee while you are giving away the prize for free. I suggest NBA because the reg. season is extremely long but starts very soon, perfect timing as you said. The long regular season + postseason also mean that the best tipsters actually win, and not someone by chance.

Besides, I'm just a basketball fan I guess. And many others here are as well (just look at the size of bball prediction threads).

I picked NBA and Soccer on the poll, NBA would be my first choice since there's a few days left before the regular season starts. Soccer is the second option I chose because I usually bet on the big leagues every weekend. I wanted to vote for esports but they're only interesting when there's tournament and these only happen once every 1 or 2 months while other options in the poll last longer.   

I prefer E-Sports and NBA games since these two are one of the most hottest!


I think maybe you could solve this editing issue if each prediction post would be paired with signed message by the participants with their corresponding Ethereum or Bitcoin addresses.

Anyway, as you guys are discussing on whether you archive or quote the user's prediction to avoid cheating. Why not make a list of them in the OP, It would be much easier to keep track of all the participants. Though it needs a lot of effort and time on the OP's edge.

Posts don't show as "Edited" on Bitcointalk if they were edited within the first 10 minutes. Admin doesn't keep logs during those 10 minutes either. I scrape mosts posts (usually more than 99.9%) within a few seconds, see Viewing unedited posts and deleted posts, view per post, per user or per topic.

To make it fair without worrying of edited prediction, I suggest to use superbru like the one run in this forum managed by hilariousandco (soccer prediction competition). It is simple and easy to track, you wont need to quote all predictions or maybe archiving every single post in order to avoid edit.
Looking at the pool result at the moment, Basketball is the most favorite one with 10 votes. Unluckily, I think it is not available at superbru IIRC (haven't checked it yet).

I would suggest that instead of going through a manual operation better host your betting contest on https://www.superbru.com/home/index.php.
This way everything will be automated and you will in the end pay to the winners.

Also if you are not taking any entry fees for this, you can announce that anyone can contribute to the winning money voluntarily.

Supporting this initiative since we’re closing to Christmas season.why not OP make this contest more transparent and legit by posting the target end date of voting .

You should Quote every prediction right away after they posted because they can edit the post whenever they wanted though I know LoyceV has a Log in which edited posts can be checked from the original post before editing (but I might be wrong also)

I posted in favor of Cricket and I am part of a small and long running Cricket fraternity here on Bitcointalk. My fraternity members probably don't know about your contest since they didn't see it most likely.

Cricket has a massive following across the world(Not just 3rd world countries) like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc, but I do agree with your point that the majority will most likely favor Soccer over Cricket though which is why Soccer is the best choice here.

Prediction post should be quoted so that it will not be edited anymore. Just like how they are doing in Stake my Address thread.

I like soccer and i usually wage in soccer and hence i am looking forward to see what contest you will be deciding in the end, i like Tennis too but soccer will be my priority as there are many competition to select from and there are many soccer fans here and it is the most popular sport in the world and then the rest of the sports come  . We already have a English premier league contest and we need a site outside the forum to lock in the prediction that cannot be edited and that would be fair.

In my opinion it's better to choose contests for games that are much in demand like e-sports, soccer, nba because that will bring lots of people here. Oh yes, I hope you don't forget that always use escrow in the contests that you make, it will give more confidence to the contest followers.


Yeah right, I think @OP has fully sponsored this contest but if anyone wants to donate, I don't think it's a problem. In fact, in my opinion this contest is positive enough to encourage other members in the future to hold similar contests.

The poll may or may not reflect what is in the list because this forum do not have the same ratio with the world's population. I cannot even see someone posting for cricket but it is very popular and has a massive following on populated India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Anyway, if I am to pick only one then it is soccer. European leagues are going to be exciting next year and then the UEFA.

Talking about my own selection I do prefer soccer yet I do have knowledge into this sport compared to others.

E-sports is a new trending betting game in our area, it's exciting and unexpected since some gamers coming out without us noticing it, there are players we didn't thought will do a big role in their winning. The previous DOTA2 is really fun, the effects and holograms are fascinating to watch. It's quite addicting to follow in youtube so I bet if crypto betting in e-sport will be a more big hit as it now.

NBA and football would be nice, as they are the sports which has the most number of events at this time of the year. Esports is pretty lame knowing that there are only a few premier tourneys in line for the last quarter of the year.

And for sure, the above-mentioned sports categories would receive a massive following and your thread could be a hit as many people follow the said sports. As for the edits, try doing your OP self-moderated? But yeah, that wouldn’t change a thing, and the freedom to change posts within the 10-minute interval would be a bummer, so perhaps just adjust your timer to that said period then.

This is just a contest so I don't think there is any need for contributions in the form of BTC, the OP has prepared everything so he chooses which voting the most popular sports will be made into a betting contest, but I don't know what contest will be held.

If OP will sponsor for the price, I would suggest that we contribute also to increase the poll, a little amount that we can afford like from 0.001 btc to 0.005.. I am suggesting this so we can make this competition more exciting, actually it's the prize that really matters, and when it comes to holding the funds, we always have our very trusted escrows in the forum.

Asking on which one to whom you bet? Your choice! As long you do know the sports and you do enjoy on betting it then that's the on where you do focus on.

People do have different interest when it comes to sports bet.So this is just a self-preference type of question.

Mixed Combined sports is for me much better as we have many sports person here so adding all the top sports for the project will be more cooler .theres no need for spice fiction one when we can have them all right?

I actually wanted to go for E-sport, NBA and Soccer but couldn't so opted for E-Sports and Soccer instead. Soccer is a famous sport and alot of people watch it, pretty much can be said the same for NBA but I still wanted to go for soccer so yep personal preference. I chose E-sport cause it is a growing community and in the future, a lot of possible games could pop up and join the E-sports so it is actually quite a large community when you take note of that. Plus, it's less demanding with the players physical ability but more on analytical, timing, combo, etc etc so a lot of people could potentially join in and enjoy.

no doubt its E-Sports this is the in demand in betting's now like DOTA ,MOBILE Legends and League Of Legends and i'm sure there are many cryptonians that will support such

Voted for Soccer as my first option and Other sports as my second option(Cricket is my 2nd option). Majority will most likely choose soccer which is why I think this would be the ideal sport for your sports betting contest op.

I think you can choose a site like superbru where interested members can join and vote which is a workaround for the editing issue that you mentioned op.

NBA is also a choice but I picked Esports since there are a lot of them these days. Dota2, CSGO, LoL and other online games can be betted on and with a lot of those games, you will never run out of bets.

For a starter, I guess OP should go with soccer or NBA as these two are more accessible and have a vast of viewers and bettors as well. And if these two were successfully completed then he can try with esports, likewise you already established some bettors.

Anyway, waiting for mechanics.

NBA will be a good choice since the new season of NBA will start on October 22(which I will also pick). soccer will obviously be picked by many but I think tennis will be a better choice since
the Davis Cup will start next month(I will also pick), November 18 to be precise. also starting November 30 Sout-East Asian games(SEA games) will start (I'ts a multi-sports game.)
with 11 countries competing in 56 types of sports, it would also be a great choice for your contest.

there is no restriction editing a post if your not a newbie . its still trackable with time stamps but its still up to you if what rules you want  .

Why not do a test run first? Just pick one sport for now and if you find it successful, you can stage two or more.

Are you looking for those dots that indicates that the post was edited? I think few minutes don't count but after a ten and so on, it will appear.

I am planning to stage a betting contest. Now I am undecided which sports. I like soccer since it is very popular and its many exciting games. NBA would be perfect too as new season is about to start. And there's also the other popular sports like tennis, mma, e-sport, etc.

I also noticed that editing a post few minutes after it was posted and have minor changes cannot be tracked? Can someone help me with this, please.

I am planning not to allow edits. They can just quote their previous post and then predict again.  


Add-ons:
My initial plan is purely predicting the winner so I will be looking into matches that are competitive. A correct prediction is 1 pts while a wrong prediction gets you -1 pts. This simple mechanic allows those that missed the prediction (e.g. traveling, working hours, bad internet, etc.) the chance to stay competitive. This is necessary especially when the tournament is coming to an end.

My initial prize pool would be BTC0.02 only. Economy is bad but I wanted this game for a long time. This is just for fun anyway. But there is a chance that I will be putting up more. I read a comment for possible donations. Yes, I think we will be accepting donations from willing sponsors. There will be an escrow for the prize pool (op and sponsors).

For now break-down of the prize would be like:
1st - BTC0.01
2nd - BTC0.005
3rd and 4th - 0.0025BTC each

Anymore suggestions, especially for mechanics? I would be glad.  

I still don't know the duration of this game. I wish I had the funds to make the prize pool big enough to prolong the duration of this contest. I just realized that the best games in NBA (playoffs) and soccer (leagues ending and UEFA) will start in the 2nd quarter of next year.
