First of all I'm sorry everyone. When not making predictions I know that the order of the league breaks down. On the past weeks I was having momentary problems with my internet connection because of being in the countryside and I missed making predictions. However even if I made predictions vd309 was still going to defeat me. So here I just damaged myself by getting -1 points. I'm going to try to do my best to prevent such things from happening in the future.

I might be biased because I played ice hockey when I was younger, but ice hockey is far from boring. It's a fast paced game where players play few minutes and then they have to rest. That's why ice hockey teams have four lineups that change during the game.

Unfortunately ice hockey is a marginal sport in Croatia, especially after Medvescak went bankrupt so there's no way for me to watch the games. NHL games are usually played when it's night time here so I don't watch it. Plus I don't like the fact that Americans make a show out of almost every sport.

And I hope that Czech can beat USA because I'll lose a point since Switzerland went thought to the semi finals.

So Canada are through (as expected) and Switzerland (the one I overlooked). Meaningless to me since Harko and I had the same ice hockey brain on, but from a glance at the spreadsheet, Czech-USA is the game to decide many outcomes. US the favourites but I'll want Czech to win this, just to throw up a pretty matchup.

Found out today there are three periods in an ice hockey game (I always assumed two or four). Does anyone here seriously watch these games? I don't think they're boring, from a few snatches of play I'm looking at. Just not sure I'll ever want to watch a game properly -- but I said that about cricket too.

Odds-wise, Atalanta was a better pick than any of the Bayer ones. I thought about picking that one, but I trusted this Bayer team without watching them properly.
I have to say that they disappointed me yesterday - a team with Xhaka simply can't be a serious team. I'm not taking anything from their season but based on what they showed in the biggest game of the year I don't see how they were undefeated so far.

Alonso's starting lineup was a bit weird as well - not sure how much it was affected by injuries.

Lookman stole the show with a great hattrick and I'm actually glad for Atalanta - they have been playing some great football on limited resources.

Yeah, but you also have USA so it will be a point for both of us if USA wins or a point for me if they lose. But you have Switzerland and I think they will easily win over Germany so that's a point for you. We'll see tonight.

Good summary I didn't know you guys watch cricket lol but also, if all the wickets fall, you won't be allowed to hit the balls anymore. So the idea is to hit the balls, hit them well (you get max points for a "home run"), and protect the wicket

It is due to the way we phrased the question. You need to get exact way Leverkusen wins or just Atalanta to win in any way. That offsets the odda just enough to get decent spread of answers. This time not so much, seems we all put a lot of trust in Leverkusen not loosing this season.

Fair play to Atalanta though, they played excellent game yesterday.

I just checked the ice hockey quarterfinal schedule and I'm in a little trouble. The only difference between jayce and me is that he went with Switzerland and I went with Czech Republic. Switzerland is up against Germany which is a much wasier opponent than USA who is up against Czech Republic. I hope that Czech can win despite the odds.

I think they just went against popular opinion, plus with the incredible run they went for the season it had to end eventually. Don't worry bro you'll turn it around, I'm having a terrible run of form myself it'll eventually turn around maybe switch up your process or your handicapping. 

I don't understand why they chose Atalanta as the winner even though we know almost all participants chose Leverkusen at least 5 of the 48 participants chose Atalanta, maybe they just hope for luck or have their own considerations? if it is based on considerations then they win the bet with good odds. This 4th season was pretty bad for me and I only won 2 times out of 9 predictions, instead of reaching Division2 even in Division 3A I couldn't compete and the most unlucky thing is that I missed the competition in the Cup

Bayer Neverlusen is no more after that loss against Atalanta, I hope they'll come back stronger with another impressive streak since they've been one of the best teams to bet on this season.

We also had two cup games that finished earlier today with Sparta Prague and Dinamo Zagreb securing their win. That means we 0-2 backers are now in trouble because it'll be impossible to see all three underdogs win in the other cup final.

Unfortunately for me, I had no idea that it was esport-esque upper and lower brackets kind of knockouts, that's despite the fact that I made my research, it just didn't occur to me  ... Bayer Leverkusen impressive and surreal run of form have finally come to an end, I believe despite being below par today and defeated by a better team on the night, Xabi Alonso and his players should still be extremely proud of themselves. This loss has nothing on what they've achieved and the performance they've showed this season!!!

So yeah if I were to translate it into something that Im familiar with. Its pretty much like baseball but instead of taking turn after 3 strikes, the teams are given specific amount of balls to score as many points ( runs ) as possible before the opposing team hit the strikes ( wicket )

This is the classic bracket style format that I've mentioned in the past, thanks to Cro2's eSports question. You have the top 2 fighting each other, guaranteeing one in the final. The loser can still win the next game and move to the final anyway (and should be likelier to win since they will be higher in the table than their opponents). It has worked a treat in similar formats. I remember the NBA play-ins, I chose both the top seeds in both sides of the bracket. Both eventually made it through to the playoffs.

In any case, it can make sense to go for both two "sure things" to guarantee 1 correct finalist, if you feel your opponent might gamble for 2/2. Even in tennis it makes sense.

They lost. I'm not an expert but in cricket, the first team that bats first will try to score as many runs (the first number you see) to set a target for the opponent. In your screenshot, Bengaluru scored 172 runs. Then, Royals must reach the target of 173 runs to win (which they did).

There's more, but I'm not 100% sure how it works. While batting, you get a max amount of balls to hit (20 in the bracket means Bengaluru reached max balls). At the same time, the bowling team (the ones... throwing the ball) will try and hit the wicket (three sticks behind the batter). If they hit all the wickets, the batting team can't bat anymore.
