The advice still holds...

Yeah it is, but really what's the point of necroing an old post from 2015 that no one replies to? It's like you just remembered you had a thread like this and replied to it.
Though, it would be a good read for newbies, but generally a new topic would have been better and just linked this one on it.

Below is a list of my thoughts on sports books
Some may feel that these are obvious.
All of this is just advice/suggestions on how to manage your gambling journey.

The following should be self-explanatory.

General Strategy

1: Shop around for the best value.

2: Work out a staking plan. General rule of thumb is 5% of bankroll (I use 3-5% and sometimes 8%)

3: Never, ever, chase!

4: Pay close attention to team news.

5: Stick to singles or doubles.

6: Choose which markets you bet on carefully.

7: In any given season you will have good spells and bad spells and you should not get carried away with either.

8: Stick to what you know and don't bet on leagues you haven't been following.

9: Keep records of all your bets.

10: Know when to cut your losses. (i.e. Don't go into debt)  *Dealing with a gambling problem? Learn the warning signs and how to get help.

I'm open to feedback... like/share/comment

What rules do you live by when gambling??

These are some fantastic guidelines to follow in betting. I can't stress enough how important it is to shop for different lines when sports betting. Always find the best possible value for the team you're betting on.this coupled with proper bankroll management, to me you're the most important parts of sports betting.

When i bet, especially in football, id like to look at the head to head record of both teams before making a bet. Usually id go with a +2 handicap on the weaker team if they're kinda evenly matched for better odds. Sometimes i also go big or go home like when i bet on a -3 handicap on the Spain Lichtenstein game.  Grin

These are great tips... If you're looking to read some more material, check out our blog!

Bet on Big Distractions is a new one to me. Seems like a good strategy.
I don't know about. It is not confirmed that is has much to do with team effectiveness. T
hen following this logic -  betting on Barcelona after that revelations about Messi's tax fraud would be a bad idea.
But I didn't see that problem interfere with his play at all.

Prior to the tip-off, TMZ and ESPN were reporting that Clipper’s holder Donald Sterling had made ethnically insensitive comments. At a point in the middle of the 2014 NBA playoffs, the LA Clippers were thought to beat the Warriors by 2 points. And although Clippers were favorites, they lost the match by 21 points. So it is wise to bet on big distractions. So I guess it could be sport specific...

sports book betting is very good but for that first you should have knowledge how to do analyse the game , history of the teams and their performance , after all this calculation you should also have knowledge about the latest development of the team. then only you can do a good bet on that match and win.

I am using directbet.eu for live betting.

Ah a fellow sports book bettor..A big plus of analyzing the game is if you have played the game as well. As you would be able how to spot tactics and formations employed by both teams and be able to know if the momentum shifts from a play or what not. I'm a big Chelsea fan, since the DiMatteo days when he was a player. They played a very attractive attacking style of play that is waay different from today's playing style. So, to be able to distinguish how teams shift their playing style during the game, and how formations affect which playing style they are gonna be playing is a big plus. And usually that information comes from experience of playing in the said formation.

I do not have a target or strategy. I always bet when the weekend when many teams are playing and always try to make a profit with very high odds. sometimes succeed and sometimes fail. but most fail lol Grin

I think it is better to bet on low and sure odds than bet on very high odds. Sure it's nice to hit a high odd bet, but i tend to build more profit on low odd wins. It's like someone asked you which you would take, a 90% chance to win $100 or a 30% chance to win $150. I'd go for the $100 anyday.

Do you have examples of the low and "sure" odds that you play?

Yes, look for odds about which teams play which, follow the game..Most sports betting sites let you play in bets on the run, that means, you can bet while the game is going on. Lets take football for example, at the kick off time, there is an bet to go Draw at halftime with lets say 4.4 odds. As minutes pass, and scores don't move, odds will drop. Come 42 minutes, both teams play defensively, no one attacking. It's safe to take the Draw bet at this point with even 1.4 odds, since you see both teams parking the bus. It's a sure bet that is gonna win, and it has low odds..

These are all good advices, I would add one more.

Always be patient and in control. If you don't see anything to bet on, then just don't bet, or don't bet for betting sake.

You are correct!

I agree with this advice
