I wish it was true and it was that easy , even though this is a reputable forum anyone can put a bitcoin address and then later "claim " it is theirs no?

here is mine :

That's why you should post an address you can sign a message from,
that's something only the person with the private keys to the address can do and a common way to prove ownership.
More on how to sign and verify a message here -> https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-sign-a-message-990345

i like the idea

however why do you think that a decentralised system will be able to give you your account just because you say so
where is the proof because we posed it on some forum .

Well that is one of my addresses at least (lol). I think it is a good idea, just in case. And seems like more than 153 pages of users posting addresses have about the same opinion Smiley

All right - Calm Down... - what website would you prefer to use (You never said)...
Use your wallet, core, electrum, whatever, they all got the function to sign/verify a message.
If worse comes to worst, use http://wallet-2sx53n.sakurity.com/#verify

People seriously need to stop using coinig. I dont know how often I have to tell this until you get it, but its bugged. Its not working and the message "bad address" is plain bullshit.

The message verifies just fine (without the trailing linebreak) with a proper wallet.
