As of this day, perhaps.  However..I'll just leave this here.

Edit: that was a bad page to reference..I'm driving around with a couple people talking to me..this one is better.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/11/business/global/rise-in-chinas-aging-poses-challenge-to-beijing.html?pagewanted=all

Even with 500 million elderly people there would still be more than 1 billion workers... 2.5x the entire US population (assuming the US population grows to ~400 million). It's natural that China surpasses the US. When 1/6 of the world is chinese, of course China will have a larger economy than the US which is a fraction of its size.

Also, in 40 years the US will have almost a fourth of its population being elderly. Not quite the 1/3 that China will have, but the US would be catching up.

http://www.aoa.gov/Aging_Statistics
(Says 19% by 2030, a 6.6% increase in 30 years. Assuming this continues, it would be 23.4% by 2050)

In any case, I don't see how this helps your point. Your original point was that the US will get passed by China, and then you gave me evidence that it wouldn't, due to its elderly problem. "As of this day", China has 4x the population of the US, but with half the GDP. China has a GDP growth rate of 7.8%, while the US is 2.2%. China's growth rate has dropped almost 3% in the last three years. With this elderly problem its entirely possible that China does not pass the US.

HMMM US loans trillions of dollars from China, US economy still falling fast and Detroit is Bankrupt

I don't think the US has loaned much to China - I think it is the other away around.

...in the international phone system. 1 is the country code for the US!

No it's not.  You can also reach people in Canada by using 1 as the country code.

This #1 attitude you yanks have won't do you very well when China surpasses you as the #1 economy in the next couple years.   Grin

China is about to collapse (economically).

All those statistics are bunk.

They are building empty cities to make it look like they are growing.

Well at least they are doing something.

4x the people that are disproportionately old.. due to the one child policies, forced abortions and such, they have a MASSIVE baby-boomeresque problem on their hands.

Nope, that is not true. US' median age is 36.9, and China's is 35.2 . I think that you're thinking of Japan, which actually has that problem.

You can reach a lot of countries with the 1 country code, courtesy of the United States.

Also, it would only be fair for China to surpass us since they have 4x the people.

Beware of stereotypes.

The idea of separate governments annoy me. If not for the frailty of humankind period there would be no need for such a hapless system. I see myself as a citizen of the world, however naive or idealistic that makes me; and yes, I'm a "yank". Now get over your inferiority complex(es) and lets work on making Star Trek a reality.
