While not really "trading" per se, I started out with an investment of about $25 and I slowly add to that when I can. For the most part, my 'investment strategy' has been to hodl and wait for it to go to the moon. So from that standpoint, any starting amount is "enough" no matter how small.

There are some trading sites whose their minimum trading fee is .001 bitcoin but there are some other sites who are lower than that but you need to be careful on picking in many exchanges out there.

You need to start from low amount and step forward one by one everytime you earn some profit. You need to study trading system on your own so you can have a lot of knowledge about cryptocurrencies. I would recommend you to participate in bounty campaign and the money that you will earn can be used as your investment so you can practice trading. Always do your own research.

I'd start with a very small test amount. Say 100-300 dollars. Then I'd make the trades I thought would work and see what happens. Think what it would be like it you had 10-100 times more invested. That would give me an idea of the risk. Part of it is my ability to hodle and not even look at the charts when my investment dips. Just wait. Not advice, just how I do things.

It's up to your capital. If you have $1000, you can try with 100$ first. Never bets all your money, even when you are an expert, I think so. Because no market is always stabling, if it's down, you will lose all.

How much money do I need to invest to start trading?

As a beginner try to invest 100$ and this is the right time to invest as market is in deep and most of the  top projects are 70% to 80% down  in the value as compare to its  peak value
Don't to day trading just buy good coins or tokens and then hold for atlist 2 to 3 months you will surely make some profits.

In order to to start trading... you have to learn how to trade first;
  • choose your favourite platform have a good reputation.. plus some tutorial from Youtube/articles/.. [ learn how to place order.. read the chart.. trade history .. moneySupply]
  • make enough researches before you start investing in 'X' coin/token it doesn't matter if it long term/short term investment..  read their project/whitepaper
  • Start with (testing amount).. don't expect to make money out of it just to practise what you had learnt and don't even regret if you lost it
  • if you think you eventually found that 'x' coin/token worth investing/promising/ have potential to rise up coming days... [invest only with what you afford to lose ]
  • patience is the key.. if it worth investing so nevermind to hodl it month(s) as a concept of long investing.. it will give you a high percentage but better not to be greedy.. just with reasonable profits

other things will be much easier,  [the amount to start trade] it depend on what you can afford.. of your capital how much profits you want...
as high returns came from big investments... but always don't forget not to invest all your money in one basket ..

It is advisable to start with small amounts. 10$-20$. For beginners, it is important not to earn ,understand how the market works. And after you understand and learn you'll have to decide how much to start trading for profit.

How much money do I need to invest to start trading?
You mean daytrading for example? You don't need much. You can start with $30 or $50 and make $5000 from it with good daytrade talent.
I must warn you tho, daytrade talents are extremely rare because human emotions come into daytrading so much that most fail miserably sooner or later.

can you define "invest" and "trading" here? you seem very inexperienced with this in general (? just by looks, I can be wrong). you shouldn't invest anything to trade unless you feel that you have a clear idea to begin with! which, if you have to ask such a question, you probably don't!

instead, start off by atleast getting some bitcoin (now that the market's low), and you can then either a) hold bitcoin b) trade to an altcoin and hold("invest") c) trade to altcoins to further increase your bitcoin stack!
