These secession attempts are people that feel that our current governments are destructive towards their rights. When that happens, you can try to alter it or abolish it. That is what is happening here. Since the Declaration of Independence is the root of our nation, the US should recognize that the course of action taken by it should be a valid course of action for those within its jurisdiction. How many of those same gripes apply today to our current governments, both at state and federal levels? Several.

Actually, ten counties that don't understand republican democracy want to leave Colorado because, well, they are whiners and when they fail at the ballot box, they look to other measures.

Oh, well, obviously being bound by a document signed by 20 or so people hundreds of years ago has the ability to endow a ballot box with magical fairy powers of just righteousness. Maybe those ignorant swine in Colorado just don't understand how good they have it.

I mean, my god, just imagine if they were forced to be responsible for themselves instead of having a person who never met them before look out for their interests.

TERRIFYING

Although I know that was snark, it is terrifying, if what you are proposing is no central authority whatsoever.  All this succession talk is really people upset that they can't convince their fellow citizens of the rightness of their ways so they look for ways outside the democratic process to get what they want.  It is the equivalent of taking their toys and going home. 

It is the nature of a republican democracy that the actions of the government are NOT what ever citizen living in the democracy wants.  However, as we currently have in place, restrictions abound to protect that minority from undue oppression.  If that is what they are concerned with in those counties, instead of being children they can seriously push for additional protections.  They aren't doing that.
