Statistics was updated as of the 1st of October.
It is eye-catching that, in comparison with the previous month, the number of active users increased for the first time since March. I have not concrete explanation of it)

Statistics was updated as of the 1st of august 2020. The number of active users is decreasing for the fifth month in a row. If the number of active uses keeps on decreasing, there is an assumption that their number will be twice as low in a year.

Makes you wonder what is causing it. Covid? People loosing interest? Other places to discuss? I have my own theory as to why, but it's not popular so I'll just keep it to myself.

Since there is, at least for now, a good increase in price makes you wonder what numbers August will show.

-Dave

You can share your opinion on why the active users are decreasing and your opinion does not need to be popular ofcourse. I think covid can be one of the reason but as the bitcoin price will increase and pandemic is over, we will see more active users on the forum.

Since tvplus006 did not update then numbers for August, I'll just go ahead and post my thoughts.

1) The crap in the Politics & Society section. Right / left / moderate / whatever. There are people here to discuss BTC and see having that entire board as a big negative. There are people on either side who don't want to be on a board with people on the other side.

2) The lack of nuking of troll accounts. When you are trying to have a discussion and certain people keep popping up. Not to put too fine a point on it, but there are places where you can go to discuss that if you try that kind of crap it's removed and the poster gets a ban

3) The constant altcoin / token scam of the week. Yeah, I play around with alts, and I fully know it's a dumpster fire, but the "purists" think it's evil.

4) The constant bickering about DT.

All those together, drive a few people away, they then take away a few more who say "go here instead" and so on.

Just my view, a lot of people may agree or disagree, but it's what I have seen and what I feel.

The statistics really gave an insight that Bitcointalk.org is probably the most anticipating site that lots of activities took place in the Crypto world. If I may ask aside Bitcointalk.org what's is the most visited forum so far.

I've been very active on various forums for almost 20 years now, and what I noticed is that number of active users is constantly declining for years, on all of them. We now have Telegram, Discord and other means of communication, so it's not a surprise that forums albeit superior ( at least for me) are not the first choice anymore, especially for younger generations. So maybe that's simply the case here as well.

Quality>quantity anyway, better this than inflated numbers due hordes of bounty hunter alts and paid shillers.

as for deleted posts it would be interesting to know how many are from frodocooper.

Deleted posts have two types and they have different meanings too.

  • Deleted by moderators, staffs, admins. They are spam posts or posts break forum rules.
  • Deleted by users themselves: They are likely shitposts - users delete by themselves, clearing post history when they are maturing or from hacked accounts - new owners; or bump posts from service threads.

It will be cool if you can differentiate between deleted bump posts and the others.  Cheesy

Would there be a way for to pull the post numbers vs. deleted posts?
I have scraped most posts. You could check each post and see if it still exists on the forum, but that requires excessive scraping just to come up with the number of deleted posts in a month.

Quote
Yes the forum only had a 170,000 post increase but if in May there were 20,000 deleted posts and in June there were 35,000 deleted posts it's still down just not as much.
A better comparison would be to compare both months after a certain amount of time. It's likely some posts made in May were deleted during the last month, which increases the number for May while posts made in June might get deleted during the next month. But even then, it doesn't necessarily mean anything: less posts on the bounty board have a different meaning than less posts in Bitcoin Technical Support.

It's a good thing the number's shrinking, right? And what exactly does the number in brackets stand for? So the (-7629) for June means so many accounts have been banned in one month?
Figures in bracket blocks are for raw changes (increasing or decreasing) compare to previous months.

The number of active profiles was declining from month to month. In June, it has crossed the line of 100 000 users and currently is 95 788. This is a new anti-record of the forum

I think I got the list wrong here. What exactly does "banned profiles" correspond to?

~ This is a new anti-record of the forum(
It's not an anti-record, it's more like a postitive statistics that shows that preventive measures taken by the administration are paying back, the spammers have given up on their "work" and hopefully found a real job and better life...

Sure, I could start a list of data dumps - static files updated on a regular basis, as long as it doesn't duplicate efforts from LoyceV.
I don't keep track of which accounts are active, so don't let me stop you Smiley
