Let the chips fall where they may.
I am surprised nobody pointed out that being unemployed is illegal, especially if you do not have a high social status.

And currently 3BTC is worth less than $3000. It is advisable to have at least 3 month's savings before doing anything rash.

Honestly, I think everyone reading this who has 3+ BTC should throw caution to the wind, quit their jobs now, default on all their debt and live as cheaply as possible.

Eat catfood if you must, it's better than eating shit forty hours a week as someone's wage-slave profit-bitch.

Knowledge is Power
Definitely self-employment. Do do whatever I find interesting, and have the freedom to switch to different projects/fields whenever bored. Learn computer programming. Do that a bit. Learn web design - do that. Write books, movie scripts, whatever. Maybe start some bitcoin-related business. But the point is having the freedom to do what you enjoy.

This thread, like many others on this forum, is improved by a careful reading wherein you replace all the "ifs" with "whens".

The dollar, yuan, and euro are going to implode sooner or later. All empires collapse in time. This is inevitable. When they do, crypto will be waiting to absorb the wealth.

Which side of the equation do you want to be sitting on, dear reader, when that happens? Think carefully.

I would stay in my job for at least a year and give myself plenty of time to think about what I can do in the future. I might start a company on something i really enjoy doing. Probably develop one of my hobbies into a business. My general direction would be to setup investments which can give me regular income to support my daily expenses and then start a business with the left over income, so I never spend any of the capital.

There has been studies and books written about people who win the lottery and/or acquire wealth (and stop working).

Traveling the world gets old.  You don't need to be rich to travel.  I've been to almost 40 countries myself.
 I'll say this about "traveling"

- You spend a lot of time in bars / restaurants (things you can do at home)
- Eventually seeing new landmarks / museums gets old and you go "meh"
- You DO get bored on vacation, all the time.
- Dealing with trains / bus / rental is a pain.
- "friends of convenience", eventually you realize these people you partied with in foreign hostels / hotels you'll never see again.

I listen to a few radio shows hosted by millionaires and see the reality TV shows - their lives aren't any different from ours.  Most of them are planked on the sofa and, if it wasn't for the socialite activities, most would be bored to tears.

Most very rich people occupy themselves with some sort of career, some host on the radio (like the people I listen to), others are venture capitalist (who technically work for almost no money compared to their net worth), et cetera.

Really the only benefit I see from money is security but it's a false security, maybe the security from never being forced to work but you'll have plenty of people trying to steal said wealth from you (women, the banks, et al).

It seems stupid to stay at a job and earn money that you don't need. I would only stay at a job if it allowed me to do something that I couldn't otherwise do.

I enjoy my current job so I would keep it but I would take a long overdue family vacation or two... or three....

There's no way I would get bored if I had all my time to myself.

I'd focus on my hobbies 100% of the time.

I guess it depends what you mean by filthy rich.

Unless you're like Franky and bought in at $6 (you lucky bastard lol ) ... I don't think anyone is getting filthy rich overnight.  I myself have a modest stash of coin, but I expect it will take years to appreciate to 7 figures.

I think you have to have 5 to 10 million net worth to be considered wealthy.  And filthy rich means net worth of 50 to 100 million or more.  My opinion on it.

I would still work if I suddenly became rich...but I would work less.

If you were at work, and suddenly something HUGE happens that hits every news station that has the general public taking flight to Crypto, the price just explodes into the stratosphere whereas your current stash of Bitcoins can last you a lifetime of comfortable living.

Would you continue working?  Get a different job?  Just stop working altogether?

For those in school, being a student is your day job.

Well I think working and then moving the money to Bitcoin would be the most logical option
Since you are able to increase your income and if your just buying Bitcoin it makes sense to keep working
While taking your check and buying Bits.

if suddenly rich:

-find a job you enjoy and go work there
-go back to school and study something new
-start a business

you will get bored and be tempted with too many destructive activities if you have no job and nothing to do during the day.

also, let's say you dump BTC and find yourself sitting in lots of fiat while the price drops...you'll be tempted to buy back more BTC than you originally had. if you have another source of income you can do that without worrying too much about price

Nope..
BTC is my retirement fund.  At least I hope so.  I would like to do more in BTC but I have to draw the line at overextending myself too much in one area.  I think it will be huge for anyone holding as little as 1 BTC.

ts better to continue doing a job you love even if your rich, then to be bored, spending bitcoins wastefully, where they can be left in the hoards, to gain even more riches.
Reread the OP, he said _filthy_ rich. You don't need to gain anymore riches when you're already set for life.

I have already quit my job and I am all the happier for it. I volunteer two days a week and spend the rest of my days doing what I like.

lose: unfind ... loose: untight
I have a day job that I like, and I have a lifelong hobby that I would like to be able to spend more time on. I have a target $/BTC picked out where I feel I can quit my day job, and devote all my work to what is now my hobby. Even if I did, the roles would probably flip, with me still spending some time in the field of my current job.

Not yet.

I have already left my job to be a full time bitcoiner ...so NOT planning to go back to job again, even if I earn a LOT from bitcoin Wink

ヽ( ㅇㅅㅇ)ノ ~!!
I'm already self employed, this would mean I could outsource all the boring parts, instead focus only on the fun parts.

Even when I was a kid I spent my days building/designing/making, being rich would mean I could take it to the next level...

I would probably keep working but maybe slightly less than now and maybe do some volunteering.
We need goals in our lives I think, not having them would leave me depressed.
