Meh. When Steam releases this OS, Windows 9 will be out
And 9 will probably be just as shit if not worse than 8

why do u thin 8 i shit. I like 8 cuz it need less resources to work fast, it is fluid. Metro is shit but when you instal a normal start menu everything is fine

.....no reason to ever use Windows again.
...no reason to ever use SteamOS.
FTFY.

Why do u think THAT?
Not nearly all games will be compatible with it. At least when it launches.

another microsoft nightmare?  Grin

looks like it.
how can they cripple the media functions to such a perversion.
seriously... i can't even listen to an audio cd or watch a dvd without being online??? are they completely nuts?
even ps2 had divx and mp3 support.
how can you rape all that progress over time only for more revenue and observation for marketing analysis?
...ah, why i do i even ask.

it's not about innovation and progress of hard- and software, but of making a consumer the product ready to milk and study...

i really hope steamOS is not too disrespectful to consumers and becomes a decent system for gaming and full-feature media support.
(i'm still not sure about the directx integration for linux. microsoft could drive some ugly strategies in the future and throw some rocks in the way)

meanwhile in console land...

ps4 FAQ, http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/30/ps4-the-ultimate-faq-north-america/

- no mp3 and Audio CD support except using sony's online music service  Huh
- no external hard disks
- no blu ray/ dvd support without online activation
- no streaming of music/video content via home network

nextgen crippled consoles are joke with all these restrictions...(not that i ever planned on buying one)

If they create a linux based gaming system, does this suggest, it becomes easier to get games running with normal linux?

Maybe it's a good idea to install separate O/S for gaming.

As a test, would you run steam on a system that has an unencrypted wallet.dat?

Seem to me like big news. I wonder what kind of experience will provide.
A kind of Big Picture OS, or a somewhat regular Linux OS with a file explorer and all that stuff?

It's going to be more of a big picture OS
