If u buy alts with bitcoin does that makes the price go down of bitcoin. Where is the bitcoin going if u buy alts?  Huh   Cheesy

It's about demand and supply. When people sell altcoin/bitcoin (This process called supply on altcoin - Low Price - and demand on bitcoin - High Price).
You should read more about demand, supply and how to analysis the chart.

Bitcoin's price is based on the demand, that means, if the user bought other crypto currency the price will not changed but it might affect the price of the crypto currency that is being bought. That is obvious that the one who sold you that crypto currency will be taking your bitcoin.

As long as people buy more Bitcoin than selling it for alts or fiat currencies like USD, Euro etc., Bitcoin will rise in price.
It's all about bid and ask. If this changes, price will go down.
Pretty simple.

Not necessarily. A lot of exchanges allow you to buy alts with cash. I can buy a number of altcoins on my local exchanges. Not all of them of course, but enough.
Normally the price on BTC charts is calculated in comparison with fiat. This is one of the reasons that what you might see as a crash on BTC charts may not really be one as the amount of coins being on the market at a given time could be low (and usually is). What is being traded for fiat every day is only a small fraction of the total supply.

Bitcoin's value is affected by supply and demand. When you buy an alt using Bitcoin, it contributes to the Bitcoin demand. It will be different once alts are on mainstream and you don't need bitcoin to any alt transactions.

its not stupid question I guess. bitcoin price is depend from many things and one of I know is because supply and demand. and if you buy altcoin with bitcoin then your bitcoin is in the market and not going to everywhere. and once the altcoin price is increase, then if you sell your altcoin in high price then you can get much of bitcoin beside you gets your base price before. so it will not affect with bitcoin price pair fiat and its only for altcoin pair bitcoin.

according to me not necessarily bitcoin prices according to, if alts are on hold continue to be sold cheap then the price will go down and clear you loss but if it is sold when your high price profit. so it's not exactly a loss.

Always remember that the price of bitcoin depends primarily on supply and demand along with other factors. Even if alts go up and more people are buying them, as long as bitcoin is in demand, don't worry about it. only buy it and HODL

I cannot get the question clearly. Here's what I can at least contribute in answering your question. If you buy alts with Bitcoins, the number of alts that you will receive will be according to how much its cost is in Bitcoin. But all these will take place in an exchange platform. There is a seller or a buyer on the other end of the line that will be completing your transactions. In some other wallets, the site itself will be the one to purchase your Bitcoins.

I know that if you think this question through, you can answer it. Since the price of bitcoin is based on the demand and supply, if people demanded altcoin over bitcoin, the price of bitcoin will surely go down. But many people are demanding bitcoin so the price will just go back and forth.

Altcoins are sold by the users also, so that is obvious that when you bought an alternative coin online, your bitcoin will be going into the deposit wallet of that user and he will just withdraw that out of the exchanger.

Buying alts should boost bitcoin rather. It's simple economics demand and supply. You buy bitcoin to buy alts

If you buy alts, you are also selling Bitcoin.  So doing so would have the same effect on the altcoin exchange's Bitcoin price that selling Bitcoin for fiat would have on an ordinary exchange's Bitcoin price.

Due to arbitrage trading, the price of BTC on the altcoin exchange that you're selling on would roughly even out with ordinary BTC exchanges, so you would have affected all of the different exchange rates.

Where is the bitcoin going if u buy alts?
Out of Bitcoin and into alts.  Seems pretty self-explanatory.

I agree with this user. I guess to clarify a bit more, if there is a strong demand for altcoins, that means that people are choosing to put their money into those altcoins and they aren't demanding for Bitcoin. This means that Bitcoin would have, in the posed situation, less demand and thus the price would start lowering slowly. For the most part, we haven't really seen altcoins have a lot more demand than Bitcoin until now, to be honest.
