This thread needs a bump.
C'mon theymos, isn't this a good idea? The community supports it (well part of the active members here, the others haven't really seen it yet but I'm sure they will be happy too if you make it happen) Smiley
Hope you can post a feedback and let us know what you think, when you have the time. I'll bump this one from time time Smiley

I would support this idea, or even renaming 'more' to some other word like 'links' for example.

It would be nice to update other parts of MENU also, and maybe add bookmarks

In fact we could use the more button's page to insert other useful links (without altering the graphics/ux of the forum).
For example I always forget the link of the last ip page, every time I have to look for it.
It would be comfortable indeed!

There are so many other features can be tweaked a little just to make the user experience here more easier, considering the pretty old outlook of the forum ( which I really like, as an old school forum user) the newbies need something to make them comfortable here. A difficult access to some of the features for sure doesn't make it conformable for sure, and it can be quite confusing.
As you see from some of the previous comments, even long-time established members are still not aware of some of the new functionalities. This has to ring the bell to the admins that some small thinks can be changed until we move the new software ( which looks like a mirage now, seems like we need 10 more years of testing before implementing it here)...

This is why I think there should be a place where all hidden (or not so easily accessible) features are put together. I'm sure you are not the only active Legendary around here who is not aware of the IP log. You really need to read every theymos' post to know what is going on.

Heck, I think even satoshi might not be aware (should he ever log in). Cheesy

Damn, every day you learn something new. I've been here for 5 years, and it's first time when I see this. I was sure that I know almost all these "secret" Bitcointalk linkd.

If it was up to me, I would benefit greatly if the first (fixed) position in the "jump to list", at the bottom of the page was the jump to my watchlist. I think it would also make your lives easier or at least a few mouse scroll wheels would be saved  Wink

Watchlist is already available at the top, below 2 lines
- Shows unread posts since last visit;
- Show new replies to your posts.

What he menat was to have a link on the bottom so when you read a thread until the end you don't need to scroll 20 posts up again just to click the Watchlist. For me it's no need to implement this as you can just press HOME button on the keyboard and you go right to the top Smiley

How about those ones for the More you suggested?
New optional features to watch post history, thread history {Suggestion}
It seems there is very little attention on my thread, that can be integrated with MORE.

  • Link to the Rules - as they are so strictly ruled they have to be easy accessible
<...>
There's a reason why the stickied thread of mine still has the word "unofficial" in the title - it isn't officially recognized nor do I expect it to be in the foreseeable future. Just like it was back in the summer of 2014, the "Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ" thread is a personal project of mine, with the only sorta semi-official support being the fact that former global moderator SaltySpitoon stickied it (IIRC) and that some moderators have stickied translations or links to the thread in the boards they've been assigned to moderate (myself included). theymos has stated (on multiple occasions) that he does not believe in definitive rule lists:

<...>
But I don't believe in having a set of hard rules which is to be applied to all cases. Whenever an argument starts looking like it was written by a lawyer, or relying overmuch on precedent, you've stopped thinking about the real case and have started using rules to retreat into moral and intellectual laziness, divorcing yourself from the decision you're about to make. If you're making a decision about a case, then you're responsible for that case, and you can't say, "I don't agree with it, but I was just enforcing the rules." Every case needs to be handled individually.

- I don't believe in creating definitive rule lists.

So don't expect him to officially link to a page with a list of rules, let alone when said page is a thread maintained by a single moderator.

Along with adding links to the MORE menu, I think the HELP menu should be completely reconstructed and rewritten to understand about the regulations of this forum. If a newbie tend to read HELP, the information present there are outdated and more often reflect the SMF options instead of custom Bitcointalk options which should be changed initially. theymos and most probably other admins have changed the forum to more different than what it was initially present (like removing the 'Delete this account' option, changing of 'Username' options etc and implementing new features like Merit, Trust etc) for the  welfare of forum members in general.

Hence the Help menu should be completely reconstructed with information about what a newbie can do, restrictions implemented on their account, signature stylings, PM and posting cooling time, information about merit, trust options and a lot more features currently present. Normally newbies aren't really aware of these stickies by arriving at Meta section of the forum and some won't really know that Meta deals with discussion of forum features and issues as well.

Yeah, I think it should include much more stuff. Rules, FAQ, welcome guide, links to other valuable information and guides. Renaming it to FAQ or README or something else more important/eye-catching would help. Maybe even put it in redfont so it stands out. Might even be better putting it near the current Help tab or even renaming it to that itself and completely replacing it as the current Help section is more about how to use the forum software which is pretty unnecessary really and the most important info can be included in the More tab anyway. New users should be urged/guided to read it as well upon sign-up as most people who come here will likely have no idea about the rules or what to do or how to purchase a Copper Membership if they're even aware of it at all. Some sort of welcome message has also been long overdue. I think I wrote a brief one somewhere ages ago but can't be arsed looking for that. theymos also wrote a proposed one somewhere as well I think but either way one should definitely be adopted.

I asked for something like this for the Rules nearly an year ago here

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/suggestionto-draw-more-attention-to-the-rules-5067047

I would love to see there more Links specialy the link to the Rules!

And all other links you posted would be fit in there.

You have my vote on that .

I must confess I've never clicked "more."
even now there is useful information to be found.

I would also find the information you mentioned very helpful.
if it is used for too many links as well as for activity, ranks, trust, bump etc. it unfortunately ends up like one of the many FAQ collections that already exist Smiley
but the one you mention would be implemented quickly and would be very helpful!
