If your wife does not like your flipping breakers it will be hard.

Doing some exhaust/more cooling is hard as you need electricity and wife most likely will not like noise and more expense.

Options i see are underclocking until it gets cooler where you are.  Or selling and upgrading to something with less heat.  Or do hosting.  With hosting advantage is your wife does not have to see gear.

If your wife interferes with your mining, get rid of the wife.

I feel your pain, brother. No nagging wife here, but I'm in an attic apartment (get's really hot up here). I've overheated my miner 3 or 4 times so far this summer... today was the worst though. I forgot to leave the AC running before leaving work (oopsie daisy!). Luckily, I didn't completely fry everything. Oh well, I'm giving it a rest for a bit while I pick up a few less out of date graphics cards. I'm seeing signs of dying GPU like my screen going black when I start running the miner sometimes. Live & learn I suppose.

Honest 80s business!
Save your marriage! Mining isn't worth it. The only thing you can try to do is try to hold off until winter and then show hew how cozy and cuddly warm your appartment will be!

This is a good idea but wouldn't it cost a lot of electricity for the ice also?

Cheesy You can take the ice from the cooler of your house without any additional cost  Wink

Yes, you have to change it everyday... but I think that there's any problem.
IMAO: That cold air = 2-3 fans without ice

Has no one mentioned this yet?

Unless you have insanely cheap electricity, it's time to shutdown at least your AM Blades. They haven't been profitable to run since before Spring. And the S1s are marginal at best. It's time to upgrade (not advised) or quit.

I still beat the electric bill by a good amount, but yes, equipment will be charity if I don't dump out soon.

Well toss out the stuff that is that uses the most watts per GH/s (the most inefficient stuff is probably the blades).  If you undervolt & underclock the S1s the power consumption will go down as well as the heat.  They'll still hash a little bit in the positive.

Little update... I found out turning off my blade rig and running a small fan in the bedroom goes a long way with the wife. Instead of pushing 1th I'm now pushing 900gh, not a bad compromise. I'm selling off everything and getting a few S3's, nothing crazy but seems like a good time to do it anyways. I've been thinking about reducing my BTC holding a bit too, just kinda lacking excitement, eventually we need a breakout or a crash as things seem way too quiet in the BTC world.

In my case I have GPU's at ~65-70º but it's something that depends on the algo that you use...

Maybe a good option could be adding more fans near your rig, taking fresh air from a box with ice!

Mine at Jonny's Pool
Of course you could sell your gear and go the cloud hashing route.  Only thing is I'd recommend you stick with a reputable upfront honest site - don't jut go for the cheapest because it might actually be just scam/ponzi.

Should I perhaps click on that referral link you're sporting and buy from them?  You warn him not to buy from scams or ponzis but you encourage him to consider cloud mining.  Dissonance.

In what world would a company set up machines that make money and let you make some profit from said machines?  The answer is none.
You're assuming they actually have some machines to setup.  Here's cloud mining summarized in a nutshell: you give me $1 now and I'll give you back $0.75 over the course of a year.

He has a wife and wants to make money, not donate it to some cloud mining company that will make profits at his expense.  Going to cloud mining after selling his hardware is terrible advice and I'm pretty sure if he bought his own miners he's able to see that cloud mining is only beneficial to the cloud mining companies.

Do due diligence
Undervolt https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/guide-undervolt-antminer-s1-119wgh-at-the-wall-526060
AND
add a second fan pulling air out of the back (it reduces noise/heat)

...I used these http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026ZPFCK/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 because they were pretty & could be bought with bitcoin  Grin

or

sell your Miners and upgrade to the S3's, get out of mining and keep the coin?

Tell your wife about Gyft. She can save 3% on purchases.

Underclock your antminers. That is what I did today (since I got my S3). It makes dramatic difference with heat, noise, decrease wattage and last importantly limited usage of AC.

That is a good way to reduce heat and electricity but it also reduce profit by a lot..

Well post on here the city you're in and maybe somebody would be willing to host them.  You could also sell them in the marketplace here, which when combined with escrow, is a lot safer than using eBay/Paypal.  I figure people on eBay would buy your gear, mine for 25 days, and then say it's broken and ask for a refund and make you pay for shipping both ways - that's how eBay works.

Again if your power costs are above $0.10 it may be worth it if you do buy new S3s to have them hosted in WA state.  Sure you have to pay for hosting but then you don't have to pay for electricity and the wife is happy - it may be a better solution.
