Everyone has their own goals in this forum, if the opening post feels that the topic currently circulating in this forum is bad and feels that it is not
useful. There is no compulsion to be in this forum, because everyone is free to choose. For me the current topics are quite helpful to increase
my knowledge, In fact, there are many other people's experiences that I can learn from. Maybe there are a lot of bad topics too, but I understand
it. Because it's not easy to make good and useful topics for other people.

When there is a bull run on Bitcoin, the quality of the topics on bitcointalk takes a turn for the worse.
Yeah, I totally hear you. Bitcointalk is now filled with topics like "how to buy/sell bitcoin", "BTC vs GOLD", "how to steal coins" and other unintelligible things that make you wonder, if there is such a thing as Bitcoin development anymore. On other forums you can learn how to use two-factor authentication on the blockchain, but here all you can find is schemes.
Then you are hanging out in the wrong areas...

Stick to the technical areas such as here and here where you will find the real ongoing developments and Bitcoin technical support or the Bitcoin Mining areas for useful info regarding mining and the hardware usedBTC.

Areas such as "Project Development" and pretty much anything dealing with alts -- that IS generally crap and to be avoided as it will rot yer brain Wink

Of course, this isn't a forum for those who are intellectual people, everyone can go here and ask even it's been asked for multiple times. That's how a platform works where discussion is non-stop even it's already been tackled many times. If you want more complex learning you could go on Coursera and study there, watch educational videos about crypto on YouTube. This platform is open for everyone even if you're dumb, don't expect that users will create complex topics just for you who already have learned a lot. Also, moderators are doing their best to retain those topics that are updated and helpful, you can simply ignore if you don't like the topics or if you want some spice, then made a topic that is extraordinary.

Hey guys,
I have been lurking for the past couple of years. I have discovered a pattern I would like to share. When there is a bull run on Bitcoin, the quality of the topics on bitcointalk takes a turn for the worse. Is there no moderation in terms of removing completely irrelevant or just plain stupid topics? If I remember corretcly the moderation was a bit stricter back in the days. I find myself wasting so much time digging through shitpiles of topics in search for a gem. “Then stop digging and find another home” you might say. Well, this is the OG, so I would rather not have to.

If you have such a hard-on for getting smarter, then you'll be more than welcome in the technical side of the forum.

If you're reading Politics & Society, Off-Topic, Bitcoin Discussion things get dumb really fast.

You're also part of the problem. Your topic/post complaining about low quality posts is a low quality post. It doesn't really belong in Bitcoin discussion, it belongs in Meta because it's about the bitcoin forum.

My strong side is not the technical side of Bitcoin. Honestly much of the technology behind Bitcoin is gibberish to me. However, what fascinates me about Bitcoin is the ideology behind.
I don't consider this topic to be a low quality topic. It is a real concern regarding the part of the forum where it is posted. What kind of question could be more relevant? Smiley

Then ignore the topics you think that doesn't seems to be useful to you and stick with the ones that are beneficial and have a sense. This forum has a moderators of course, you can also report useless  or repeated topics all you want. If you explore this forum this a button at the right side.

On the other hand, members are usually replying to those topics that are new and popped up in the first page. Whenever there is a bull run or bearish moment of bitcoin, expect unworthy topics but of course moderators are doing their job to stay this community clean and have a healthy conversations through meaningful topics.

I am not sure what would you expect.
Bull run also means increased awareness. A lot of new people will then come here.

Some will promote low quality projects and plain scams.
Some will come asking the same questions over and over again.
Some will join bounties and will spam this forum and all possible social media for some extra cents.
Some will come to troll and spread FUD.

Unfortunately many people that come here have their own agenda and learning and being useful may not be part of that.

Isn't it like that everywhere on this world? And we aren't really searching for another planet because of this Grin

This is a fact where we are building a community here that is knowledgeable and aware about what are the possible effects of crypto market when it undergo bullish and bearish market.

We are glad that we have this kind of forum where we can learn and explore together in a cryptocurrency world.

Maybe, during bullish run, people are confused on what to do, to sell on that price, or to hold. Many investors here are just clueless about bullish market that's why they asked the same thing. But be careful about those scams that might exist because some of them are just using this situation to fool people.

It is the fear of missing out on the opportunity. Everyone in this forum own cryptocurrencies from $ 1 to 1 million. This fear is what prompts people to believe any statement and repeat a lot of discussions.
Greed is the second factor because the higher the price, that an increase in the price means the possibility of obtaining more money and thus making profits easily.

between fear and Greed the quality of posts changes. you can use userscript to ignore some spam users.

Why ask questions that you previously answered so well?
News are unfortunately not interesting unless it creates FUD. FUD sells newspapers. Crypto is in the spotlight right now because of all the money going into it. News reacts to this with FUD. No need to be surprised. 😊

The popularity of cryptocurrencies is growing, the market is bullish, and as a result, the emergence of new people who also have the right to ask or express their opinion.
This is a forum, not a news portal, where for every news, someone must be held responsible. If something seemed stupid to you, you always have the opportunity to explain your point of view to someone who is mistaken. Perhaps instead of grumbling, you could bring new thoughts here.

Agree to this, every time the bull-market starts topics asked are about prices, prediction, suggestion for investment, etc, which in some cases are repetitive. Which are mostly from new users looking who just came in since this forum as what you have said is the best source of information. The moderators are still active on filtering the threads with topics that are irrelevant and even posts that has no substance or help to the topic. This is correct that each users here has their own agenda, this is where people who shill and even spread FUD to their job.

Not sure about your sampling of forum posts, but it's been improving for me over the years. Especially since the merit system was implemented, there's been a lot of improvement of quality overall. And you have to play your part by reporting spam posts (those go to moderation and mods can delete spam from there).

Bear market, there are more ridiculous posts in my opinion. Trolls are there waiting to say I told you so when Bitcoin goes into decline.

Yeah, every time there's a Bitcoin bull run the forum gets stuck with all the:
"Will Bitcoin price hit X USD?" "Will the Bitcoin price crash and how much?" "What will happen with Bitcoin in (insert random month or year)?" "Bitcoin is a scam, bla bla bla." " Bitcoin failed at scaling,BCH is the future..."
Seriously,do newbies have to ask all those pointless questions again and again?
The forum moderation kinda improved, especially compared with 3-4 years ago.
All those low quality topics eventually get deleted, but it takes time.

On the contrary, I noticed that the forum has improved a lot in terms of contents ever since the "Report to moderator" button was added. Now, it is either a user will improve one's posts or get tired of making post after post only to end up deleted by mods. Additionally, there is also a ban imposed on users who are found to have a pattern of making unconstructive posts.

If there is a sudden spike of worthless topics during a bull run, this is very temporary. You will notice that after mere minutes or an hour or two at most, these topics are already gone.

very representative  Wink

That's right, and your answer is right to answer the OP's question. Here we as old users should appreciate that newcomers do not know that their topic has been previously discussed. although in the end the moderator will delete it or not even be deleted, not because the moderator just left the topic, but we as users must participate and contribute to it. For example, helping modertors and working on reports.
Isn't this our job as forum residents, to contribute to each other.
As for the OP what the OP said:

I find myself wasting so much time digging through shitpiles of topics in search for a gem.

This seems selfish, because in this forum there are almost 100+ topics every day, so why not try to read and create quality topics. or is he lazy to read?

The forum is partially reliant on community policing.  If you see any topics that meet the definition of "low quality" (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/low-quality-topics-do-not-belong-here-1649348) use the 'report to moderator' function.

Post quality going to shit in a bull market isn't really new here. It just makes sense that as prices go up, people would be a lot more interested in grabbing some bitcoin(or crypto). All you can do right now is to do your part into make sure that these shit posts will be reported. Sometimes it just takes time for them to be removed due to the increasing number of spammers, and the limited number of mods/admins.

Moderation still exists, but not to say that it will stop members here to keep posting and creating useless topics. As NeuroticFish said "
Quote
many people that come here have their own agenda
Therefore, we are certainly be seeing and reading negative and positive posts in the forum. If that never meets your criteria, make a leave/skip or even ignore it. I was also likely to read people that always on the positive side, it made sense actually as we are promoting on crypto, not dragging it down.

Some people get paid to ruin crypto.
