That's to be expected especially for a non-tech socmed government related accounts, regardless what country it is. That always reflect on how the quality of a government works too, so i don't wonder why. Plus the malpractice and kind of software (crack/unlicensed) they are using in their offices.

nowadays, many social media accounts of public figures are intentionally hacked to promote these scam projects, it is certainly quite worrying because these accounts contain real followers, meaning there is an opportunity for these followers to see the promotion of the project and follow it. even this is the account of the supreme court of india, this is a pretty bad incident, because surely they are followed by many people and they also have an it team that manages the account, this will be a pretty serious problem and they should fix it so that incidents like this will not happen again.
One of the reason why many social media accounts being hacked is because of the amount of people who are following or subscribers if it's YouTube before they promote cryptocurrency or using it to scam people. There are already victims years ago and there might be other more victims using the hacked social media of famous people for that purpose because even there are victims without using hacked social media.

I think its high time account holders do a thorough security check on their account and if possible, activating  a 2FA function on their account would be much okay to do because no one knows whose account would likely be the next as the targets are always accounts with large followership on any social media network.

Unfortunately activating 2FA won't help in these specific hack because they use cookie stealers for this attack which is obvious sent to multiple emails at once and those who clicked them will become victims. The only way to recover the account after these particular hack is from intervention of YouTube support which may take days to week depending upon the channel priority and in this case this looks like official channel of government entity so they can contact the YouTube official in the country and resolve the situation as soon as possible.
I believe the situation might have been handled urgently but I think the government need to do something about it because this might not be an actual hack but an attempt to delete contents from the channel and makes sure that the team is not able to make use of the contents or access the channel again making it irrelevant even if it's finally recovered. Sometimes those contents that was deleted might be lost forever if the team does not have a backup of every videos on the channel. Scammers and hackers are doing more bad than good these days when artificial intelligence could help to write scripts and programs with ease that will make the process very easy them.

What you have reported is correct and I remember such hacking incidents were quite common 5 years back. A lot of good YouTube channels got destroyed due to such hacks. Eventually, YouTube has now come up with 2-factor authentication which most big content creators have now enabled. I am not sure why the Supreme Court of India channel admin did not activate two-factor authentication. Since it is a government-owned channel mistakes can happen.

The amount of social media accounts that are getting hacked to promote Crypto is alarming, I remember seeing a post here where It was mentioned that almost 20+ Twitter/X accounts were hacked to promote a scam shitcoins. It somehow creates a bad image overall and many potential investors who were willing to invest in Crypto are no longer interested as they do not want to get scammed. Let's hope these social media companies enforce 2FA and other security measures on all accounts.
Only novices will not be interested to invest in bitcoin and other coins. If you want to buy a land, even common devices like phone and laptop, if you do not follow the right way, you can be scammed. That is the reason it is good to know about this scam and avoid them.

But it will truly be good if the social media tell their users to use 2FA but most X accounts that were hacked have sim authentication enabled. Sim authentication is not secure. I prefer app authentication like Aagis. Also the use of hardware authentication is secure.

The rate at which social media accounts of reputable personalities, celebrities and influencers get hacked these days is alarming. Last month it was France player and now India Supreme Court account hacked and used to promote fake project.

Last year the US Security and Exchange Commission's Twitter account was hacked and used to announce the approval of Bitcoin Spot ETF. This single news brought a massive change in the crypto market. It was later confirmed that the account was compromised through a SIM swap. One will begin to wonder how a reputable and heavily funded organization like the SEC will not put the right security systems in place.

Days are gone when you will just believe any information because it is from the verified social media platform of an organization. You need to verify and cross-check the validity of such information because failure to do that will have dire consequences. There is also a need not to be greedy and make hasty decisions since it will make one a cheap prey to these bad actors.

Account hack on X were common, but other social media and platforms like YouTube are not also safe against these scam. Scammers will compromise the YouTube channel of people that has high subscribers, delete the videos on the channel, changed the URL and changed the name of the channel. Then they will post their scam video.

From the title above, you can understand that this recently happened to Supreme Court of India YouTube channel. The channel was hijacked. The contents on it were deleted and the name and URL were changed. The hackers used the channel to play a fake livestream video featuring Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse. It also urged potential victims to invest in the scam, promising unrealistic returns.

India is one country that is known for its fire power when it comes to cyber security, because they have a lot of programmers and expert in web and cyber security, so it's really unfortunate to hear this kind of news emanating from that country. although hackers and scammers go to any length in perpetuating whatever they want, you can imagine where a supreme court of a country's YouTube channel being hacked, supreme court is the highest court of any country, documents and videos that comes out of their YouTube channel is most regarded as sacred or the law, yet hackers where able to penetrate it and set up a scam platform.

I think this goes to tell you that the Indian Government needs to improve on the security of their YouTube channel going forward, there should be a two-factor verification that is set up and well protected by the handlers of the page.

I remember the time where one of the famous YouTube channels here in our country got hacked and when I saw the channel, it's currently on live and I saw a conversation where the guest is Elon Musk and on the description, it says there (non-verbatim) "Deposit X amount of ETH or BTC to this address and in a few minutes, it will double your money."
It was very popular like 4 or 6 years ago.

Year after year, many famous YouTube channels have been hacked and they're being used to promote scams.

I remember the time where one of the famous YouTube channels here in our country got hacked and when I saw the channel, it's currently on live and I saw a conversation where the guest is Elon Musk and on the description, it says there (non-verbatim) "Deposit X amount of ETH or BTC to this address and in a few minutes, it will double your money." On live chat, I saw some random viewers telling that it really doubled as soon as they deposited their assets, and we know that it's them as well, and they might used some services out there to tell to the live chat that it works. They're doing it to attract investors.

This kind of incident isn't new anymore, but the thing is that, no social media platform is safe, and even the channels of famous influencers on various social media platforms can still get hacked and be used to scam newbies. Always be vigilant, always be updated, and don't fall to these "TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE" cheap tricks. Wink

The article says these hacks are on the rise. And what this infers is that the victims of these type of hacks are also on the rise. These victims are going to be made up of a large number of people who are new to crypto and whose motive is to make very quick money. They are the uniformed, less knowledgeable, those who are without basic cyber security knowledge. Unfortunately their ignorance will not exempt them from losing their crypto.

I wish there was a way to know if beyond restoring the hacked accounts if the hackers are caught and prosecuted. They should be . They deserved to be locked up for a long time.

Many times that a famous personalities got hack and promote same giveaways like this and its like those hackers doing it to target those innocent people. With this cases the government should immediately release a statement towards the hacking incident they experience and warn their citizens regarding on the giveaways or any shilling activities happened or been promoted by their account.

They should punish the one who handle their youtube channel since due to their neglect and curiosity to check unknown links and offer there are lot of people might possibly get scam especially if they are not checking news and just caught up then feel interested on what they are seeing.
