But if I check the update page it shows the correct FW. So what the heck?

please understand I could be wrong, I'm not working or programing for KNC so it's partly guesswork on my part.

The version is probably just a variable stored in the Web code.

Think about it if the link you get after upgrading the firmware isn't run, the way these rigs are setup is to reset alt of stuff on reboot. So the firmware update code that needs to be run against the system doesn't get run because you are using a different reboot method that doesn't run the commands before rebooting.

However the bits of the update that don't require a reboot are copied over such as cgminer etc si they work fine.

Your symptoms of worse performance when rebooting using the link are similar to mine. Always worse performance. So I kept going back to 0.96.

But now im using the old firmware but the new cgminer and I am not getting the performance loss.

So there must be a lot more being changed when you change the firmware than just updating the cgminer instance, and alot of those changes will be related to what happens when you click on the reboot link after you update the firmware.

i'll figure it out today. i'll try both and report back if i get any changes

From what I know of them, unless they have a component shortage they will be using this time to build the November batch. I expect they want to minimise the issues they had in the first run.

has anyone here from the first batch ordered any additional units from the nov batch?

if so, how many units/model was your first batch order, and how many new november units/model did you add, and when did you add those orders?

8. I never click on reboot, just shut down the miner, wait a minute

do you mean just executing reboot cmd?

when u click reboot on the web interface reboot.safe will be executed instead

Code:
#!/bin/sh
i2cset -y 1 0x24 0xb 0x6b
i2cset -y 1 0x24 0x16 0
reboot

i really don't know which kind of settings i2cset cmds are performing, but my gut says that they should be useful, what do you think?

Yes I would have thought if you don't reboot after the firmware upgrade then the firmware isn't actually installed, yes maybe cgminer gets updated but nothing else.

Sorry guys but I'm not a linux expert....

There's a link after the upgrade proces "click to reboot"

I've tried it a few times but I'm alwas had bad hasrates. So after the upgrade I don't click it just shut down the power then turn it back on...

Exactly, so effectively as you are not running the proper reboot command it might not be updating the firmware, probably a good thing in your case, you are just getting the updated miner.

Hmm.. I think I might try it Smiley

But if I check the update page it shows the correct FW. So what the heck?

If i order today, can anyone tell me if I really have a chance to get a miner in November as it shows on the website ?? What about ROI ? Thx

Afaik you will get your miner in Nov but the latter you order it the later you get it.

As for ROI its unlikely, but not impossible.  It depends alot on how much hardware KNC releases before the end of the year +  bitfury + BFL. Everyone else with 400Ghs+ products seems to be delayed till Dec/Jan

From what I have read, it looks like KNC aren't going to be shipping any products in December. I would hazard a guess that if you ordered today you'll get your miner WC 25/11/2013

O'rama, do you know if production has already begun on November's batch? Would be great if everything was ready to ship!

Is anyone using BFGMINER with their Jupiter? What benefits (if any) compared to CGMINER?

It seems no one is interested in external binaries any more, but just in case they are, here is a binary for the knc devices based off the latest cgminer 3.7.0 code. There are no performance advantages for knc devices but there are networking and work scheduling fixes for people that have had issues (eg difficulty connecting to eligius or system stopping work entirely). As per previously, you'll have to ssh into and copy the binary to your device to run it.

Two firmware updates for me so far. Didn't do that, bot even half of it. Not had a problem

1. DL the update
2. On the KNC miner interface click update and select that download and apply it.
3. Click restart cg miner in the KNC interface.

Nothng else at all. Checked it after in Putty, but all was fine. lol

So after you upload and apply the firmware, it returns to a screen that says restart miner, is that the link you clicked or did you go back to the home screen, then go the the "Mining" and click on "Restart CGMiner" on that page?

Cheers for the link! Getting some good results so far after changing difficulty but I need to let it run a few hours to see if it's all good. After reseting the stats - takes a while to see your average.

Tried 256
Goes to around 490

Tried 512
Goes to around 500

Yep. New firmware not that good for my hosted miner. I'll leave it at 512 and check back in 8 hours and see how it goes.

The hashing speed on my hosted miner is slowly dropping after the new firmware (which they automatically roll out to every hosted miner).

Gone from 560 > 550 > 540 > 530 > 520 > 510 > 500 > 490 > 478 > 463

over the course of 24 hours. Posted about it few hours ago on here and it was hovering then around 490 and now it's averaging at 46x~

Getting those numbers from btcguild. I'm going to try change the difficulty and see what I get.

Previously was on "128" and getting 560GH/s average.

heres a good read for mining difficulty.

my knc page and putty window displays that my miner is mining at 566Gh/s with 2.2% HW errors, yet on BTCGUILD page my miner is only showing 531Gh/s and fluctuates.

anyone know why this is ? BTCGUILD hash rate display values has been fluctuating lately while my putty and knc page is consistently displaying 566Gh/s.

here are some photos for reference.

putty:

knc page:

BTC GUILD page that displays lower hash rate and fluctuates:

edit: im running the newest 0.98.1 firmware version.
