Taiwanese Hospital Launches Blockchain Platform for Record Keeping
As part of efforts to consolidate the government’s Hierarchical Medical system policy, Taipei Medical University Hospital has introduced a blockchain-driven platform for the advancement of medical record-keeping.

The Healthcare Blockchain Platform will be used to improve patient referral services and integrates individual healthcare networks for people to access their medical records with relative ease, according to a report on Taipei Times.

In a statement released by the hospital, the platform will be a one-stop referral and long-term care service in support of the government Hierarchical Medical System policy.

The Project incorporated the collaboration of over 100 community-based clinics and employed the use of blockchain technology in addressing “common pain points” in healthcare. These include the transfer of data between medical institutions, personal patient portals and physician referral process, the hospital wrote.

“Using smart contracts, hospitals and clinics can request and authorize patient record sharing easily and securely,” the report noted.

Hospital superintendent Chen Ray-jade, who spoke to the news outlet, said the technology would provide an avenue to synchronize electronic medical records with electronic health records from various clinics and hospitals. It would also come with a security feature of notification and consent before any transfer occurs.

Taipei has only followed the path of other healthcare establishments in the world using ledger technology in the management of medical data.

Earlier in August, a medical big data ecosystem meant for the storage and secured transfer of sensitive genomic and personal information was jointly developed by South Korean biotech enterprise Macron and local tech firm, Bigster. The move is expected to reshape the global medical landscape by allowing for secure storage and transfer of large amounts of sensitive genomic and personal information through the blockchain.

One of the best idea and a bold concept we saw recently in many ICO projects targeting health care sector through blockchain based decentralized platforms to manage, transfer and analyze patients data and provide facilities to help improve there treatments in a futuristic way and there is a god demand for that from the health industry and that is why this hospital made such decision

All I know is that I know nothing.
unlike most people here i would like to  see this in real action first before saying whether this is really as great as they are saying it is or not. so far we have only heard the news and not what comes after. for example where is this hospital that is using this exactly, is the blockchain being used within the hospital itself or is it in the Taiwanese health system country wide?
and most important question of all is, did it really improve things or complicate them?

It's great that Bitcoin continues to cross borders. From trading, logistics, security, and now this! We can only expect the best from Bitcoin with news like this. This can be the stepping stone for healthcare to slowly incorporate the blockchain technology. This will surely save them the time and hassle associated with older practices.

This is really a great news that should be publicised as it has gone beyond all of the theories and approaches that we have seen to the point of practicability of it use to the benefit of the existing system and people. The issue of medical records have been an issue that becomes an herculean tasks especially in the case of emergency where the patient cannot be called upon give account of his/her medical history of the list of things he is allergic to, the operations he has underwent in the past all other details that would have been missed in the bureaucracy of data movement from one hospital to the other.

Another worthy commendation is the approval needed by the client before such can be done and I think this would guide against the abuse that could happen as a result of that and I think the approval should also be extended to include next of kin when the patient is incapacitated to act on his own.

Healthcare in general will greatly benefit from blockchain technology. It can allow for more efficient keeping of data records, billing management, drug supply, claim payments, as well as fraud detection. But of course, blockchain is not just for healthcare. Wherever there is a transaction (financial or not) that requires security, transparency, authenticity and confidentiality, blockchain will be an asset. Do you agree?

which also easier processing for health care insurance and government healthcare fund. this should works well if this is done before Obama care.

While the idea of services/governments using the blockchain tech for logistics and record-keeping seems mesmerizing, in the end, these does not affect bitcoin in any way given that their blockchains are a separate entity from bitcoin's, and they willingly omit bitcoin from any recognition whatsoever when asked for such idea. The blockchain tech can do amazing things; it was first evidenced by bitcoin then the rest is history. It will pretty much excel in record-keeping and logistics as I've always said, but with great engineers tinkering through this opus, blockchain can perhaps be applied in many ways than one.

This sounds very good, blockchain is a perfect way to store all information and patient records. This may also save a lot of paper wich will be good for environment.

as we all know block chain is a series of blocks which holds a number of data that are been collected for a specific span of time. This may used in different data based platforms which enable a user to have an access but equip with some ristrictions and boundaries.Hospitals and even government officies may relay to these blockchain platform to keep records and also do tracking online transactions to ensures the confidentiality and equity of each users.

This is a very good initiative taken by the Taiwanese Hospital to keep records by launching the block chain platform. This will be used to improve the referral services of patient. Also people will be able to access their medical records. This will surely make the medical things easy for both the patients and the administrations.

News as such are really a pleasure to read. I really find the blockchain technology as an innovative tool that will help reshape information as we know it and in a more secured and immutable manner.

To have records that can not be altered and free from human tampering is a great advantage towards good governance in any targeted industry. A common problem in data management is the integrity of data, even the most advanced robust database management systems are prone to hacking by exploiting vulnerabilities causing large scale data loss/damage.

And with blockchain peers keeping a record that is present to all other peers, backup is not an issue anymore. It's like having the data with nearly no downtime as a copy of the record will always be available at any given point of time (unless of course in the event of world wide electricity/internet outage which is very unlikely to happen).

Hoping to see more and more blockchain project as such to take place.

This absolutes appealing news and it proves that the blockchain technology is really helpful. This technology can be used for variety of purposes and this one of them. Everyone should use this technology and it will make this technology more mainstream.

This just shows that the uses of the blockchain technology is endless. Plus this is also a good thing that the blockchain technology is getting recognition in the Taiwanese market. Let's hope this inspires the other countries too.

It sounds so nice when you hear news about this or that industry using "Blockchain" technology to improve their service, but these proprietary technologies have little impact on Bitcoin, because it seldom makes use of the actual Bitcoin token to do it.

Some of these projects create their on "private" token or a whole new Alt coin, so this has nothing to do with Bitcoin and has no significant value for the Bitcoin experiment.

In the end, this is just a feel good story.  Roll Eyes

this may be the best news i have heard this year, the blockchain technology is not for the cryptocurrency community alone, all sector of the economy can benefit a great deal from it. With adoption from reputable organisations like this, the sky is the starting point for blockchain.

This is really great news and it indicates the increasing popularity as well as the use of the blockchain platform. The importance of technology is increasing day by day and blockchain is the part of technology. This initiative will help the hospital in record keeping in different ways.

This is a very good initiative that has been taken by the Taiwanese hospital. They are launching the block chain platform in order to keep the medical records of patients. By this, they will be able to improve the services that are to be given to the patient. This will help both the administrations and the patients.
