What is wrong with these people? Why suspend these "cute couple" into their schools without even asking what are those and why did they do it. I dont think that there are reasons to suspend these because they are just taking a couple picture with a toy gun. So if I want to be photographed by my friends or my family but accidentally I posed like a Nazi, I will be banned on my school forever? No questions asked? I guess I just found way to get out of school.

Well I think you'd be suspended until it's proven that it was an accidental and that you had no intention of posing like a nazi, something like that probably. But yes, it's kind of getting out of hand, school has to be a safe space for children, to grow up in belief that the world is like school so when they go out in the real world hey get triggered, upset and stuff like that. Modern society.

That's absurd, how is that related to School anyways?
Probably the worst overreaction.

Well I understand it, they're "not a good example" for the other kids and you know that US deals with quite a few school shooting from time to time so it's kind of understandable but still stupid... I'd understand if it was a teacher doing some stupid stuff and get suspended, but these are kids... :/

I find this very hypocritical on the part of the school management. Kids nowadays post more alarming photos and having these kids suspended is way overboard. I mean, what wrong does posing with a fake rifle do?

Time to start a charter or parochial school that requires kids to come to school, armed and loaded.

Cool
I do not understand why spoil the psyche of the child to education in a parochial school? To deceive the child and to teach a child his religion is wrong. If he will grow up and want to take the faith he will do it consciously.

Government does really react on this kind of behavior because they do treat it as a threat or they dont really like at all on having this kind of post of picture. They take it seriously and for me theres nothing to be worried about since those guns are just toys they are just over reacting.

I wish I could agree with you. But even while I am a strong advocate for gun rights, this picture was deeply disturbing, even for me. They are kids, and they should have fun. But posting such images in social media is not the right thing.

Are you sure it's that big of a deal? I mean, I'd rather see my kid holding a fake gun on a photograph than in some dodgy night club... :/
People are overreacting about this, why is it so disturbing? Well yes, but there are a lot of worse things that kids post on social media, this ain't that big of a deal, maybe I just don't get it tho.

I agree. These toys, because that's what bb guns are, can be bought from your local Walmart by anyone over the age of twelve.

So they took a picture, in their livingroom, with their new toys.

Who cares?

Isn't it required by law that "fake" guns have orange end of the barrel? That's the lw as much as I know and I'm not even american. :/

to be honest, I wouldn't tell that they were fake without reading the text.

I was thinking this too. After that kid got shot semi recently pointing the airsoft at the cop, I thought it was a legal requirement, in fact, for airsoft and pellet guns (even paintball guns). But, these could be pre regulation, they would still be airsoft guns even without the warning tips. Hell, if they were actual guns, you can still do this. They have a right to pose with non illegally owned fire arms.

yeah, this situation is pretty stupid in my opinion, they can be posing with whatever they want and even if these guns are real I don't think it should be that big a deal tbh... but from the legal side, fake guns should be painted with orange tops, because If I was in the situation where someone would point a fake gun at me being realistic like the one these two are holding, I'd defend myself too. :/

If a cop shoots a kid is not only about the color of the barrel. They will recognize the other details first, like face color.

A gun that shoots plastic pellets was deemed a serious threat to authorities in a school in Massachusetts, when Jamie Pereira and Tito Velez decided to take the "Cute couple" photograph of themselves posing with an air soft rifle.

The school staff was shocked, and immediately suspended the students for a period of ten days.

The authorities at the school did have a right to be offended, not because of the air soft pellet guns, but because they weren't teaching their students about topics like America's involvement in financing the Third Reich, the terrible atrocities committed under the name of Jesus, how the CIA used American citizens as test subjects for a psychedelic experiment and how LSD was a product of that experiment gone wrong (MK Ultra), how the FBI carried out assassination attempts and sent  blackmail threats to civil rights activist Martin Luther King (COINTELPRO), or how Monsanto is sittin their ass inside our entire damn government.

We cannot really understand the depths of their reasoning since we are not living in their country and have not experience the kind of life that they are in. In this regard the school may have a good  a reason for suspending the students for 10 days and it is not really a big deal of a punishment. This is done by the school probably for the sake of the children and their beliefs.

It is the ultra-liberal leftist San Francisco. What do you expect from a city, where you are supposed to never own a gun and wait and watch while some illegal alien is raping your wife and murdering your kid. That said, these kids should have never posted such pics on their FB account.
I am a supporter of the liberal approach to gun legislation. It seems to me that such a photo is the reason that children do not have prospects of using the weapon and they believe such photos are outstanding. Who would pay attention to these pictures if for each person the weapon is not a toy.

Leave it to you to turn this into some sort of conspiracy theory post.

The reality is that the school has no business interfering or imposing their authority on kids or parents out side of school. If the kids took these pictures in school or on school property the school administration would have real grounds to act.

I have to agree. Their parents could have been holding the camera; this is not illegal any way that I could see. Hell, this is why we have child hunting licenses, and these aren't even real, to top it all off. I don't get where this was illegal, a breach of moral code, or any kind of endangerment of the minors (again, it's a freaking Airsoft). I get the strong reactions at students and guns in this current political climate, ESP post Columbine, but it seems they overreacted when they shouldn't have acted at all, and then failed to retract

Unfortunately there are cases when the police take toy guns for real and kill children. I think this is due to the increased number of attacks, but that's no excuse for the cops. On the other hand is better for children to learn that a gun can't be a toy. I would generally forbidden to manufacture toy guns. But that's the theory, but in practice it is a violation of the rights of the child.

If it happened at school the school has the right to make them stop. The school has the responsibility to keep a safe environment and each school can define that differently.

The freedom in the USA comes when you're in public areas and mostly when you're in your own home or on your own property.

Freedom applies to everyone - so when at school, or a mall, or a business, we all have to respect the freedom of the people we share those spaces with with and the freedom of the person that owns or runs or is responsible for that space.

Another example - anyone can preach hate, but a company doesn't have to employ you when you do...the freedom means you don't go to jail.

This is really getting out of hand, Recently a five year old girl was suspended from school for a holding a piece of wood and playing robbers and cops with friends at school. What the hell happened to freedom in the USA and i will not be surprised that the very people are taking this too seriously have massive guns at home, people need to loosen up a bit.
