Indeed. My 5850 is running at 394 MH/s, 1000 core, 180 memory, and 69C. 

We overclocked it farther than that.

My XFX 5850 is doing about 280 Mh/sec and is actually sitting at 55 degrees celcius. O.o

I overclocked it using MSI Afterburner as far as it would let me move the slider to the right. Weird that y'all are experiencing such higher temperatures.

Room temp currently is 75-80F.


I was getting display driver crashes at 860Mhz, so I lowered the clock down to 830Mhz.  Not had a crash yet.  But its only doing 310M hashes.

After increasing WORKSIZE to 256 and clocking my 5850 to 900/300 my Mh/s is now 900.
I have had 0 crashes since last post and have been using my web-browser pretty extensively.
My 5850 temp is 72C and my 4850 is 70. The room ambient temperature has been elevated some which may account for the entire temperature increase.

I will clock down my cards now and lower my fan speeds since I am about to sleep.
I might report back tomorrow.

80C is normal for HD5850 on full load. I have XFX 5850 Black Edition 765MHz running 79C at 80% fan speed. The card have Phoenix fan, not the stock one. I removed the case fans because they made noise when my computer is working idle without mining, so I need to manually increase the fan speed to 80% to compensate for poor airflow.

I have one Sapphire 5850 Extreme @ 900/700 running at 75C with 68% fan speed while mining. (350Mh/s)
And a Sapphire 4850 Vapor-X @ 650/1000 (stock) running at 78C with 51% fan speed while mining. (72Mh/s)
The 5850 is located right below the 4850 so the 4850 just dumps the heat right onto the 5850, there is barely any space between them.

I have a Cooler Master HAF mid-tower with a temporary rather weak 80mm fan pointing from the side of the case right towards my 2 GPU's always maxed out (directly powered by a Molex 8981). I am going to purchase a pair of 120mm fans to replace it soon. Hopefully that will cool them pretty good. My ambient right now is slightly below 30C, it could probably go above in daytime depending on weather. I have been playing some with the temporary fan, I have for example but it in a diagonal direction within the chassi pointing directly at the 5850 which decreased the temperature dramatically for the card but it didn't affect my 4850. I can't remember the temperatures it left me with but the solution I have right now seems to work a lot better. I hope to buy those new fans as soon as possible. My GPU's are the loudest component in my rig right now and since I sleep in the same room I'd like to quiet them as much as possible.

Edit:
Right after I posted this my 5850 which has run smoothly for the past 2 hours caused my graphics driver to crash and restore. I will try to find a solution to this.

This is what I've done:
Change of AGGRESSION from 10 to 8 for the 5850.
Fixation of both GPU fan speeds at 65%.
Change of clocks for the 5850 to 915/300.

My temps are now:
5850 - 70C
4850 - 69C

And my 5850 now runs at 360Mh/s.

My 5850 still crashes the driver every now and then. It does however restore to the same clocks and stays stable for a while. I just wish there was some way to make Phoenix restart automatically after a driver restore so I can leave my computer ensured it's not idling.

Then how about VRM temps and VRM amps?

you can disagree. you can use. but can't benefit from both.

I have 2 5850's, one at like 980mhz/300mhz and the other at 940/300. Both overvolted with fans at 65%. They both stay under about 74C and my ambient is almost 27C. Reseat the heatsinks and adjust airflow better.


I disagree. You can still use fans and position them in an open case scenario.

sometimes it's the cards themselves. I have one which is always 5-10° hotter than the others no matter how I switch them arround. It got some special treatment now with extra wide air gap to the next card.

case with strong, consistent airflo >> "open case".
buy expensive case[with plenty of mounts for huge fans], install super-fans[noisy, big, but F-ing powerful] and enjoy new temps !!

I have a quad-fire PC setup with four 5850's... They are tightly packed and overclocked and are stupid-hot even with open case and good ventilating fans. Coolest card stays around 75c, hottest stays at 95c. Oddly enough, the first and third card are  the hottest, even though the second is sandwiched between them. Would love to figure out how to cool these down!

The current ambient temperature here is 25C

I'm running 3 5850's at 960/300 and they are all around 80C

But what is the ambient room temperature inside the room where the PC is?

My 2 cards currently run at 60-65C, thats with a overclock from 725 to 825Mhz.  My motherboard has a space between the two cards, so that makes a big difference.

I live in one of the hottest places in the world, where temps during the summer can hit up to 117F.

I just installed the window A/C today since the sun finally came out for the first time in almost two weeks. GPU temp dropped from 70 to 67, so I think I'm going to OC it a but more.

you mean ambient/air waming, ie hot climate ?
sorry for obviously rhetoric question, but "how warm?" you "warm" meant ?
40'C ? 50'C ?
GPU can survive about 85-90'C without quick degradation, long enough but start fading. both PCB[and elements on it] and GPU itself.

I just want to see how other users's cards behave in a warm environment

inadequate case/airflow ? simplified fan on GPU[seen on some early sapphire cards for example].
try install extra fans in case and/or replace case to something more adequate. depend cash in pocket from CM E-series[3xx or above] and Zalman Z-series[Z-7/9?] to something insanely/seriously/strong built.
