^^^^ With just one day remaining, I guess they will declare before the start of play tomorrow and allow the Indians to begin their innings. South Africans may be happy with the performances from Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma. On the other hand, there were no bright spots for India, with the exception of Jadeja (I am talking about Dharmendrasinh Jadeja).
On the whole South Africa could have now learned about the pitch, and the situations were quite supportive to them. Indians too have performed well taking four wickets. The wicket stand by Markram is the key strength by that time. If his wicket was taken, there is more chances for India to take at least seven wickets and the scoring too gets slowed down.

Well.. they'll either prepare a spinning track to aid Ashwin & co. or they will prepare a flat track to help the one man army of Virat Kohli.
It was a revelation as i was not aware that India was playing an entire different bowling unit for Test matches and ODI and T20, looks like they have a good bench strength to have different members in every format and hence they are one of the tops teams in world cricket, earlier only Australia does have the luxury to have different teams members in every format and it is good to see other teams having that luxury.

Didn't watch this Dharmen guy bowling, I was more interested in Umesh Yadav performance but he bowled short spell, only positive is he took wicket with the new ball.

Not just only happy, Markram performance is very good sign for Proteas. i am more interested in What kind of pitch India offers in first game though.

The chances are greater for the first option, as the management will be looking for a definite result in the first test. If they prepare a flat track and both the sides score 500 plus, then the match will end up as a draw.

South Africa vs Board Presidents XI

3 Day practice match is in progress and Proteas score is 197/3. opener Aiden Markram already scored a ton only in 118 balls ( Retd hurt) and Temba Bavuma is batting beautifully in the middle order, that's a good sign for South Africa.

Now game stops due to bad lights. nothing good for bowlers so far.

This is definitely a big jolt to the team as best bowler is now out of the test match which actually could turn the game away as he could easily pick the crucial wickets at important times of the match. And it’s test match so if batsman get settled they would make big score and can turn the match around .

Hope they can do that instead of depending on Virat all the time. With one less bowler, the pressure is more and SA seem more stronger this time. We don't have Ashwin too. Want to see Jadeja's magic as he performs well on Indian pictures.

Because they didn't receive many opportunities(Primarily Ashwin). If Ashwin and Jadeja get going, they will wreak havoc within minutes. They are my favorite spin combo and I would bet on them any day.

I thought that the selectors were biased against Jadeja. He was overlooked, while some of the less talented players got in to the playing XI. But Ashiwn's absence was justifiable. Historically, he has performed poorly in foreign conditions. He is very lethal in Indian pitches, but loses his venom once he gets out of India. But now I have a feeling that many of the rival batsmen have got used to his variations.

Selectors were looking at other options after Champions Trophy when Jadeja and Ashwin failed to perform in ODI. [ Kuldeep and Chahal} were the replacement. And now after World Cup, they are trying something new approach atleast in T-20 format for 2020 World Cup and but for Test Ashwin is fixed for Indian Subcontinent ( just for update Ashwin playing lots of county cricket nowadays)

So? Are you forgetting that India has many more capable bowlers who will have a chance to prove themselves(Yadav, Ishant etc) now? I feel like Ishant could penetrate the batting lineup if he gets going.

Jadeja, Ashwin and Kuldeep could destroy the batsmen with their spin variations while Shami will do what he does best. I don't think any SA batsman will thinking of settling down with such a competitive bowling lineup in my opinion.

I know it will give a chance to other bowlers and they are good as well . But someone like Bumrah helps the team morale to lift up as even opposition fears him . Also his experience and skills are helpful at times of crucial situations . Hopefully others bowlers will deliver and help the team to lift the series .
Whenever a series is conducted the home team will make the ground suit them well. This is an added advantage to Indian cricket team apart from other strategies through the bowlers. Though South Africa is ath the third position in the ranking table they're good to play and win against India. Rather than bowling order South Africa has a good batting line up for test cricket. This time this will help them perform better and the T20 win serves as a boosting to them.

What you say is true, but the selectors and coaches would have already planned these things in advance and I don't think that the number 1 test nation in the world will face too many issues here.

Don't expect too much from bowlers such as Jadeja, Ashwin and Kuldeep. They haven't done anything extraordinary during the past few months.

South Africa in all probability might have done their homework before arriving in India. As usual, the Indians will make dustbowls to give their spinners undue advantage and manytimes this works against them in the end as the visiting spinners manage to bamboozle the Indian batsmen. Don't expect too much from bowlers such as Jadeja, Ashwin and Kuldeep. They haven't done anything extraordinary during the past few months.

And India has a tendency of underestimating their opponents at home, especially if the rivals are outside the "Big 3 club". But this may prove costly against South Africa. If you check the past performances of South Africa in India, you will see that everytime they had performed better than what was expected from them. IMO, this time also there won't be an exception.

Okay Bro, I believe you  Grin

It was a wrong debate to start with various reason and everyone comparing his T-20 shot with his Test selection, Which is wrong IMHO. both format are different.
I completely agree. I find it quite difficult to select good players for the test format while it is quite easy to choose for other formats. No young player has impressed me so far(Batting) in the test format.

On the other hand, Bumrah has impressed me with his bowling skills in every format based on what I have seen. If India can find 1 or 2 batsmen who are as talented as Bumrah, they will probably be unstoppable in the future.

Edit: Just breached the 3000 post mark. Heck yeah! Feeling awesome!

Yeah, In Test Match our Opening slot is very weak after exclusion of Sikhar, Murli Vijay and Prithvi Shaw's ban, Only Mayank Aggarwal looks promising atm.  no young player knocking the door as an opener, that's why Team management betting on Rohit Sharma but our middle and lower order is strong with Pujara, Virat, Ajinkya, Hanuma vihari, Pant, Jadeja/Ashwin.

In shorter format Our Middle order batsmen facing challenge and Top 3 are quality Players.

[snip]

Minor stress fracture is quite common amongst young athletes so not something major to worry about. He is a good bowler and someone whom we need in major competition and series.
He's blue eye boy for Indian Team and i am sure they will take care of him.

Does having some wierd bowling action created some major problems. We have seen many bowlers earlier like Malinga but haven't heard him getting injured with some unique problem.
I am not sure about that but this Article might be helpful.

Now again with Bumrah out, the batsmen don't look as competitive as they were against WI and here they are struggling in their own land against SA. Doesn't look like the same team to me but since Shami is still in the team, hopes are still there that they'll manage to win. Hope Rohit can recover his form by 2nd and Bumrah recovers soon. Rains have lessened now so less chances of matches getting washed away.

I know it would have been better with Bumrah but Yadav has also very good bowling stats in Test matches. I think Shami and Yadav are gonna do well against the South African batsman. Also I don't think South Africa is playing with more test experienced player either. So I think its evenly matched even though Bumrah is out.

Its a good change and I love the part that they are giving Yadav a chance.

Bad news for India, I hope its not because of his bowling action, because majority of Cricket pundit predicted about him (his bowling action can cause problem for him in long run) when he made a debut in International Cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah was not playing in the current series and how come he got injured, was he injured earlier and hence avoided from the team or just found out about his injury. Not sure his bowling action is the problem and hopefully it is not a major injury as most of the promising bowlers does not come back that good after major injuries and i wish to see him back in the team as early as possible.

I hope that Bumrah is not required against a weak team such as South Africa. India is a country that boasts of the largest player pool in the world. And they can easily replace Bumrah. But the absence of the best player in the team is definitely going to brighten the chances for South Africa. Indian management did the right thing by resting him, rather than taking the risk and worsening his injury.

And pace bowlers find it very difficult to stay fit, given the nature of competition for the slots and packed match schedule. Around the world, a lot of the promising bowlers had to end their career as a result of injury. One recent example is that of the U-19 Indian bowler Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who has been out of action for almost two years now.
