With Smith in the team there is no way England could win the series, Smith scored 82 runs in a score of 186 Australia scored in the second innings and with the tremendous form he is in i do not see England causing any upset in the next match, the only test they won when Smith was not in the team. The problem with both the teams is that no one is able to score big runs apart from Smith and he is the man of the tournament.

Till now Smith is the only one winning matches which is a good thing as well as it's not. If by any chance Smith fails in the last match, England would be winning it while Australia seriously need a batsman who can score 100-150 in test matches besides Smith. Currently, Aus bowlers are also better than England but still England aren't a weak team who keep losing matches so for me both are equal without Smith. Stokes needs to buck up and perform like he did in the 3rd test. Because he lost, England lost the match.

England need to work their batting section. So far there haven't been a good knock from regular batsman (I mean top-order actually). Root is struggling against Aussies bowlers for some time now which is really a worrying part for England.

You can't expect Stokes to be at top all the time and save up ass just because he is running in good form. Where are others? It's same for Aussies as well. Smith is running in a very good and rare form which is saving Australia till now. What if he gets out at duck in both? Who left then. It's a team game and others also should realize their role just like Smith did.

On which channel are you watching the match ? It is now written clearly near the score.

Minimum over  remaining : 16  Cool

England would be lucky if they can survive them. We have a game on.

I was following cricbuzz actually yesterday. And didn't found any sort of that information near the scoreboard, summary or anything related in commentary section.

Yeah, that's a long time hope everything is fine with Pffrt and noticed that Royse is not active for some time (week or so, He might be busy with work, i guess)

I just checked Pffrt  profile ( https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/pffrt-303184 ) and found that he is no longer in any signature campaigns.
How often is the case that people posts only when they are in campaigns and are being paid per post.

There is still one match remaining in this series. If England manages to win the 5th test match at the Oval, then they will be able to draw the series. But the chances are very low. The only test they have won in this series was the one in which Steve Smith was not playing. Other than Smith, the Australian batsmen are still looking out of touch (perhaps with the exception of Marnus Labuschagne).
This is the problem right here. England will probably take the last test if Smith falls early in both innings unless someone else steps up in his place. They have been pushed into a corner and could pounce back.

But yesterday's match was pure gem. To put it honestly, I didn't expected the England lower order to show such fierce resistance. Overton and Leach managed to survive for 10-15 overs against the raw pace of Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc (who was wayward at times).
As I said, the tail enders can only defend for so long since the killer combo will obviously get them some way or another and they did. England must be disappointed to put such heavy pressure on the tail enders. It was only a matter of time.

Where are Royce and pffrt  Huh any word?
You mean Senior commentators ?  Wink

Royse is active on the forum, but pffrt isn't active. Last time I have talked with him was probably before the Eid-Ul-Azha.

Yeah, that's a long time hope everything is fine with Pffrt and noticed that Royse is not active for some time (week or so, He might be busy with work, i guess)

Don't forget that Leach hit century? (probably not, afaik it was 92) in the first match. Therefore, I would say it was lucky Australia yesterday, otherwise, match would have been a drawn. I was surprised by Overton, he struggled 105 balls alone.
If this match was a drawn, the 5th would be another piece of final, but now it has turned into a win for England but a drawn is sufficient for Australian.

The third test was not a devastating defeat for Australia and England won by one wicket to spare chasing a big total
It was a miracle, no one expected England can win this match. In test, such almost impossible match barely be chased. I can't remember when I last time saw such a chase.

He has failed in three consecutive matches now.

Australia’s response in this test match was resounding. Led by Steve Smith with the bat and Pat Cummins with the ball, after losing the third test the way they did and all the momentum with England, not many would of thought Australia would bounce back the way they did and retain the Ashes.
The third test was not a devastating defeat for Australia and England won by one wicket to spare chasing a big total and it was expected that Australia would perform better with Smith in the team as he is the leading run scorer in the entire tournament, if England had to win they have to find a solid test player who could stay at the crease for a longer period of time, if not winning against Australia is just a dream for England.

Smith was the man and deserved to win Man of the match with Cummins and Hazelwood both having amazing performances with the ball in this test match.

England were surely looking to keep their wickets in hand. Now either Aus would win the series or it would be a tie if England win the next but the former one is more probable as Aus have Smith and England need to take his wicket like they did in the second innings to restrict Aus below 250.

Australia have the opportunity to wind up the English side within the day as they have plenty of overs left and the tail is exposed
It was a good prediction as Australia won the match, England tried their best to survive the day but Australia bowled really well and they had no answer and i expected Ben Stokes cannot be their survivor all the time, the England batsman tried their best to defend the ball and stay at the crease for a longer period but Australia was too good for them and with Smith in the team and with the form he is in there is no way England could win a Test against Australia.

Glad Aussies were able to take wickets else a draw would be the result and it being the last day, England were surely looking to keep their wickets in hand. I doubt they will be able to survive, 9th (Leach) has gone. He was a total threat for Australian, played over 10 overs. Now, Australia is more confident that they will make it. If Leach could survive couple of more overs, the match would be a drawn.

Either way it is starting to get exciting since England are already 8 wickets down and there is not much overs left. So I guess pressure is on Australia as well (Not like as in ODI kind off pressure but as in pushing for the win kind off.)

Australia is winning this so easily. Because Stokes failed miserably in both innings. Nobody from England can match upto Smith and he just missed one match and England managed to win it. It means Aus mainly depends on one player who plays tremendously well for them. Still England have managed to bring down the number of runs from 380+ to 211. 7th wicket gone now.

Comfortably Oz will win this test match as now they just require to pick 2 more wickets of England batsman and England still require 200 runs to win this test match . OZ would be happy with their team effort and Steve Smith again played a crucial knock.

Are you sure Aussies will win this test match easily ? Only 21 overs are left in the day and they have to take these two wickets. Every over which is survived by England, make the task more tense for the Aussies.

Remembers its not between England VS Australia, rather the match is between Australia  VS (England + Umpires+ rain)

I would like to slightly modify your post. In my opinion, this is the current status of the match:

Steve Smith  VS (England + Umpires+ rain)

Steve Smith is like one man army. None of the Australian batsmen are able to give him any sort of support. Even his better partnerships came while batting with the lower order and tail end batsmen. Warner, Paine.etc have been in horrible form.

Lol...England 7th out and the third umpire this time helps to avoid this wicket. England back to 6 wickets down.
Its seems every effort will be made to avoid an Australia win.  Cheesy

That one seemed like to result in a draw but seems like England are really in a difficult position to hold against Aussies bowlers. Still 4 wickets to go and 2-1 series lead for Australia. It's not far they still have 1 session more to go.

Despite having a good batting lineup it is really shocking to see them 6 wickets down before 200. Buttler is still out there which is the only hope for them now.
