Currently, you need really good technical skills in order to mine Ether. I hope that the devs will release a better mining and wallet software soon. This would push the mining power because many news miners (with less technical skills) will come on board.

I think you need to mine them (PoW)
There is even a special Ether mining Computer available. But its difficult to be profitable with normal electricity costs.

It is annoying to constantly answer the question what the total amount of Ether(eum) will be. There will be no final amount.
